When working out you should disable the touch pad in the sony application as ur shoulder is touching the touch pad. Also the app is perfect you just have to spend time to understand the app and every feature on it is useful
Valid point I could disable it the controls. but The app is far from perfect. The app from Bose has such a clean UI. Not a major deal but the Sony app has looked the same for years with no facelift. But great suggestion. Would be nice if you customize the NC/AMB button triple tap to disable the touch instead of opening the app each time to disable it.
I had the same opinion, until I learned how to use the app and now I agree with you my dude. My only issue was I had chat setting on and didn't know. Now it's off and they are perfect
Very few people talks about the fingerprints on the black version of the XM5, these are fingerprint magnets, if this is an issue, you should go for another color, the "silver" ones do a better job at keeping clean. If anyone tried the pure white ones or the blue maybe could share their experience.
I’ve got the blue and they are fantastic. I had the black first and returned it only due to this issue. It looks and feels as if the midnight blue is made of slightly different material too. I’m very happy with this colour I have now.
These are insane so far I’ve just got a pair and the app equalizer is just lovely to play around with. Feels like I’m wearing nothing they’re so light. Don’t think I’ll be using these in the gym however, I’ve got some AirPod pro gen 2s and they never fall out and have the second best sound quality I’ve ever witnessed, with these as #1
Never saw what these had over my XM4s. Got em in 2020. Still in great shape. Folds & fits in any bag. If/when they go I'm not sure if I'll get the XM5s. But thanks for the post! 😎
Ok i can switch it off but how can a repeat/forward a track or change the volume? I have to turn it on again. So every other exercise you have to turn it on/off. C‘mon that‘s annoying
In my personal experience I’ve had with the XM5, I’m not thoroughly impressed. I bought my first pair 3 months ago (in black) and then had issues out of the box where one driver was significantly louder than the other (Nothing to do with Balance settings). Also, another major setback for me was the amount of dirt that it attracted and was difficult to get clean. I returned it and it was replaced with the midnight blue. The colour itself is amazing and doesn’t have the fingerprint problem like the black one did. No imbalance of the drivers on the replacement one but now suddenly after almost 3 months of use the drivers are distorting at around 70% volume and sounds really terrible at higher volumes. I’ve never used it at more than 70% volume since new. This issue just started while listening to music on a flight. My experience of owning these are as follows: Out of the box they sound terrible but you can get decent sound quality from the EQ on the app. Once you get use to the sound signature you really start enjoying them. The comfort I’d say is very good as I can use them for hours without any fatigue. The ear-cups do make my ears hot and sweaty after a long while though. The Noise cancelling is definitely the best I’ve experienced on any ANC headphone so far (I have a few already) My WF-XM5 earbuds do seem to do slightly better in this department. The hard shell case for me personally has not been a problem although I’m a frequent traveler. I still prefer it over my Momentum 4 because it narrows down a bit at the top which makes it fit better into my bag. I don’t know what the sudden distorting issue is all of a sudden but I really wish I wouldn’t have to return this one now because I really like it now that I’ve gotten used to it. Hope someone has some information on how to troubleshoot the sound distortion issue.
@@Aesthetic_Al I purchased it on promotion for $350 at a major tech retailer in my country. They sell for around $400-500 here in South Africa. Thanks for replying 🤝
This is the only one I'm truly considering it because of the microphone compared to other noise-cancelling apps. I live working in cafes, meetings, etc and the other ones are just BAD. I can get it for 250 usd in Vietnam, it's a no-brainer, right? 🤔
I hit like and subscribe! I like your cogent and lucid explanations to the point! I was wondering more details about the xm-5's noise canceling. Do you think it is better than the xm-4's, or better than the Bose Ultras you mention? Also you say the noise canceling is nice because you can hear someone when you need to. Does that mean when you have noise canceling on if someone says hello or something to you you can hear them? For me that's not good as I ride city buses and really cherish if I can have a quiet ride and tune people out. With my xm-4's it helps 50% but still I hear annoying people and sounds and any of the higher pitched sounds are filtered out definitely better than nothing but I was hoping the xm'5's would make an even greater difference. With my xm-4's I was waiting at a bus stop and sitting on a park bench and very busy traffic passing quickly so a lot of loud whine from the tires going over the textured concrete street surface and I mean really loud. The xm-4's definitely helped but I was shocked how much sound still surpassed their noise canceling capacity and I think it was the high pitch whine of the tires that actually was a higher frequency and the xm-4's didn't help as much. Also babies cry at high pitches and mentally challenged people with high pitched voices and ones on drugs if they are having a high pitched burn out fit that kind of high frequency doesn't filter that very well either. Also you own many models and you don't mention how these compare to all the other many models you own and wondering what you analyze using all because it helps with my purchasing decisions and it helps having a comparative base of some kind to compare to, like maybe types of sounds too. Name all your models and what are the headphones you like most of all? Thanks for your video!!
Much appreciated for the comment and support. ANC Is slightly better on these than on the Bose QC ultra headphone. I like the adaptive noise canceling it has, and you can turn on speak to chat. (Have the audio pause while you talk). What the Bose have is immersive audio and looking forward to that getting better over time.
Almost all headphones are IPX4, meaning water proof not sweat proof. That being said tho ive used these for over a year now and they are fine. The ear pads is what gets more worn out but you can change with after market ones. hope this helps
In Canada, the Xm5 are 458$ (including protection plan) and the Apple Airpods max, 958$… it’s worth to pay 500 more for the Max? I work principally on Noisy areas with a Macbook, Ipad. Oh and also, can the Xm5 be connected to a DSLR for audio?
If price isn’t an issue I would go with QC ultra headphones. Easily. Just a bit pricey but great sound and comfort, and the best controls in my opinion. If price is a factor Sony XM4 gives you great bang for your buck, and I just love a collapsible headphone.
I returned my bose qc ultra, sounds is so low in ear but people outside hear lot. I dont know I didnt like, my 100$ marshall headphones has better volume and sound quality.
9 months later - have you used them in rain or while working out after all? If so what was your experience? Or did you completely avoid any situations that would require water proofing?
I'm currently using the Teufel Real Blue NC but I broke the joystick by dropping it down the stairs (everything still works but pressing the joystick in to play/pause the music is broken). I had thought about buying the XM5 but the fact that the touch surface backfires, for example during sports, is really bad. I'm also used to a battery life of 42 hours (with ANC) and 55 hours (without ANC), which the XM5 can't offer. I think I'll probably accept the slightly worse ANC and buy the Teufel Real Blue Pro after all. I also use my headphones under the hood of my jacket when it's raining and the touch surface is just annoying. But thank you for the video. I did not thought about the touch surface that much ^^
Very similar, but i find it better for some because you get similar sound. It's collapsible which i prefer, and you can find them in sale. Just dropped a video on the new Beats Solo 4 that came out if it helps 🙏
