I think Ricky is grounded he gets why the public get irritated with some of the rich and famous and more so the world's acting community because they are immensely hypocritical and down right condescending at times to the public when the public is more aware of issues and how to tackle them than the ultrarich who live such a lifestyle that they barely come into contact with the real people who exist in the real world. As a fellow Brit and fan of his, I commend the man for putting these people in place they need to be roasted to remind them we see the flaws in them, and he is only telling them what they do not wish to hear on behalf of the public. I think Ricky is grounded he gets why the public get irritated with some of the rich and famous and more so the world's acting community because they are immensely hypocritical and down right condescending at times to the public when the public is more aware of issues and how to tackle them than the ultrarich who live such a lifestyle that they barely come into contact with the real people who exist in the real world.
As a fellow Brit and fan of his, I commend the man for putting these people in place they need to be roasted to remind them we see the flaws in them, and he is only telling them what they do not wish to hear on behalf of the public. I also think that Tom Hanks is clearly not someone who can take a joke or having the proverbial taken out of him he was not funny at all when he and Allen came on it was not a comeback it was a thinly covered attack on Ricky for pointing that out and also digging Tom over being in Toy Story and being the main draw when the likes of Allen and other cast members really have never got any kind of decent recognition for the roles they played in all four of going on five films,
Ricky is offensive, but it's only offensive because he's able to take cracks at people and tell them what they really do not want to hear but at the same time makes a lot of people laugh, and he's damn fantastic at it.

Ricky Gervais says what most of the world (with humor and common sense) thinks and he delivers it perfectly without going after the person. He goes after behavior and actions - that does not make him controversial.
I have a "dry" sense of humour just like Ricky and not everybody gets the joke, especially when you don't smile. I am so lucky that my filipina wife understands me and she is equally sarcastic. It's a joy to have banter with her.
