This whole passing torch of kindness reminds us of the kind of person Gon was and how his actions continue to affect positive change DISPITE his downfall going on at the same time. Man, every bit I learn about this arc I love it even more.
Yep one gains humanity whilst the other becomes what he wanted to fix it was great writing on togashi's part and I really respect it. Although Gon's foolishness made me upset but it is what it is
Honestly the Chimera Ant arc could be considered a separate anime all by itself, I think it was like 50 ep long or so. Granted without the background on gon and killua, it wouldnt be as impactful but still good overall. Honestly though, the signs that Gon would change have been around for since the battle tower arc (tower of heaven arc?) but his story could be metaphor about how life experiences can turn a good natured person in a monster but idk I could be reading too much into it.
@@DapimpBDSD No, you aren't. Togashi's writing is such that we can be one of those literature teachers who always overcomplicate the thing but still be right and not overthinking, personally I think the Chimera Ants arc was overrated simply because everyone talks about it, otherwise it was great
I love this as sort of the opposite case of the "All it takes is one bad day" motif of The Killing Joke used to contextualize how they Joker became the Joker. Instead it's "All it takes is one person to show you kindness" and then you can pass that along to someone else and make a positive change on their lives. Great video! Thanks for making it!
Aww this is beautiful. What a great message. This is a direct rebuttal to anyone who says that HxH is nihilistic or cynical. They're seriously watching a different anime.
Yu yu Hakusho is almost as in depth as Hunter x Hunter. Even the villains despite them doing evil things you actually feel sympathy for them by the end of things. You realize deep down they're really not all that evil. Every single character develops so well in that anime as well as Hunter x Hunter. I think if people look at Hunter x Hunter more closely it shows the dark side of humans but also, the clear good side of humans too.
And it's not a good rebuttal at all. HxH IS cynical and nihilistic. Also wrong since ep. 123 is told from Welfin's POV and that is one of the best episodes of the series, probably the best out of those 4. Ikalgo isn't a pacifist, he's a coward and a hypocrite since his ability manipulates corpses but he doesn't have the guts to actually kill anyone, that's the point of it. His point about Killua is also wrong and undone in CA, friendship isn't good in HxH, it's complicated as it is in real life. The same thing can be said about family, and Killua's arc relates to both.
@@Kamyu03 I wouldn't say nihilistic. Although it presents those themes and characters it doesn't really commit to say that's the way the world is. On top of that it presents all characters as completely round and dynamic. Although there are a couple exceptions to having a dynamic character. But those might change with time. “Gon, you are light”, Gon shrouded in a golden light in Killua’s eyes, then later Killua being shrouded in golden light in ikalgo’s eyes are two of my absolute favorite moments in the series
Whenever I watch a show I always wonder, what ever happened to this guy, or that girl? Random small characters seemingly forgotten. HXH is one of the best shows for making the protagonists not what the universe solely revolved around, and shows other character arcs. Just like in real life one small thing can effect so much and HXH nails the real life aspect of that perfectly.
I still want to know what happened to Gyro, the millionaire guy who lost his wife and specially Abengane 😂 I like the exorcist/healer guy. Maybe they are just meanless characters but I still find them so interesting
HxH was never really about the protagonists at any point past maybe the exam arc. It’s a show about people, just living their lives in a crazy world, and while certain characters tend to get more screen time than others, every character gets the same amount of depth, despite there being so many. That’s one of the reasons I object to the common criticism “HxH has a mediocre protag.” Yes he’s mediocre, that’s the point. Gon isn’t special in any way, there’s nothing he has that nobody else has, because he’s just one person out of many.
The idea of one persons compassion turning someone’s life around is actually explored during the greed island arc, first slightly with Binolt the serial killer, when Gon lets him go, but further explored with razor, when he talks about Ging seeing him as a person, and going so far as to say that when Ging says “I’m counting on you, Razor” that it was as if it was the first time someone had ever truly used his name. Togashi is an incredible mangaka and when you rewatch it, you really start to understand that he really knows what he wants to do, and never shoehorns anything in. Hell, even nen beasts are a part of greed island, with the nen exorcist. This show is fantastic.
2:50 - 3:06 That really reminded me of the flashback-scene of Razor where he says the exact same thing. That there has to be just one person who trusts you to turn your life around.
Basically we can root it all out to Ging -- changing Kite's life, then Kite to Gon -- changing his life by telling him that Ging is alive and is a Hunter (manga exclusive facts), then Gon to Killua, Killua to Ikalgo, and Ikalgo to the others...
that whole homecoming scene with Brovada and Reina is possibly my favorite and most memorable part of the whole show. the music used during it was perfect.

An important note when it comes to the visuals with this theme. At one point, in a particular show of Gon’s kindness to Killua, Gon is shown (from Killua’s perspective) with a golden light behind him. And this exact same visual is used when Ikalgo looks at Killua. It is literally Killua becoming to Ikalgo and Gon was to Killua.

I don't know how you keep doing it but you keep making me appreciate HxH more and more when I'm done watching your videos and it's already my favorite anime! How can I keep enjoying something more and more even when I think I'm done with it.
I just recently rewatched HxH and came to fully appreciate Ikalgos arc for the first time, and just a few weeks later Alexzandxr drops this video... I love my life!
Hello! I'd just like to say thanks for sharing this kind of analytical videos. The first vid you made that I'd watched was "Who was Chrollo Lucilfer," and that was the most on-point analysis of Chrollo that I've listened to that I downloaded and rewatched it now and then. His character was one of the most enigmatic characters I've known and I was having a hard time grasping the reasons behind his behavior, so as an aspiring writer, it was very insightful. I'm a huge HxH fan (since elementary) and I've watched the anime countless times, but I've never noticed the things that you've explained that it made me appreciate the work even more. Not only I've realized the effort Togashi-san had poured in making the story, I've also learned how to integrate some of the important traits you mentioned when creating my own characters. I thought that it'll be limited to your HxH vids, but alas, even your FMAB and Psycho-Pass vids taught me how to build effective and unique villians and settings. Your perceptions changed the way I see not only the animes I watch, but also how I should see humanity through a writer's eyes. I'm often intimidated by lectures and articles tackling psychological and social issues because of the complicated explanation they contain, but you made the analyses easy to understand even for the slow learners like me in your works. In more ways than one, you are helping many aspirants to establish believable and efficient fictional characters, and you made it even better by inserting philosophical points which would take some time for busy artists (like me) to research and learn. All in all, thank you for the effort and time sharing your insights in these vids, and we're all hoping to watch more!
Thank you so much for your support and for the kind words, and I’m glad you value the videos so deeply! Since they seem to be so helpful to you, please consider supporting me on Patreon if it’s feasible. No worries if you don’t have the funds, but in order for me to keep making videos, I need RUclips to continue to be a solid source of income. I only mention this because you said that they’ve been and continue to be very valuable and you hope to see more, so I figured I’d be frank and tell you that the long-term future of the channel (let’s say, a year from now) is rather uncertain. However, it’s very possible that that won’t end up being an issue and I’ll be able to continue for the foreseeable future! Here’s hoping for that. Cheers, and thanks again for the lovely comment!
It continuously impresses me how you're able to shine light on show's underlying messages and present them in such clear manner. For most people (including myself), it's difficult to make sense of the reasons why we love these shows. And then I see yours videos and think: Ah, that's the reason. Thanks for your hard work, and for putting into words the things we can't.
Not gonna lie the moment when Reina met her mother again was the only time cried. The way the mother instantly recognizes her daughter and accepts her appearance is so beautiful :)
Thank you for making this video!! I feel that Brovada's little journey is so underappreciated but I never thought of it as the last piece of kindness being payed forward in such a string of events. Truly amazing.
this is such a heartwarming and beautiful video! every time you post one of your hxh analysis videos i gain even more appreciation for this series, so thank you!!
Man you never stop to awe me by how much of HXH you can explore, and always bring something new, some new perspective, or clarity to Togashi's writing! Love your videos man, keep it up!
I truly appreciate the depth of understanding you wield and the clear expression you give in your videos allows so many more people to connect through this medium
I don't always see everyone of your videos simply because some anime I haven't watched yet, but I always love the videos. You always go in depth about the stories itself, and especially about the characters. Thanks for your great videos.
You put it better than I ever could. I've always thought about how Killua's kindness was what saved Reina, and how great it was that the mercy from this "assassin" would lead to the redemption of even someone like Bloster, Ikalgo, Welfin, and countless others. It's such a great twist of fate for an assassin to offer people a second chance at their lives. But your point about how it all started from Gon was really quite eye-opening. I never thought of it like that. Great video as always. You do a great job of covering every little part of this show, and I love your videos.
I love how my boy Ikalgo getting some love and recognition.. I never thought of those scenes of his in the CA arc as boring. He was part of the action too, even if on a smaller scale
Thank you for pointing this out and just makin analysis videos in general ive learned alot about myself and how the world work through them and its very aspiring to me.
Thank you so much for talking about this topic. This is something I always thought about but no one ever really seemed to acknowledge so thank you so much.
I love how you can make seemingly small and irrelevant story lines into such grandiose and beautiful stories just by analyzing the actual story, which is important, because the reason I can believe your epic stories is because I also read them and know they are true.
Aleczandxr I love how you find these narratives and break them down! Even though I don’t really gravitate to Ikalgo, Welfin, & the others’ stories, (because they’re minor characters who I don’t relate to / feel invested in), it’s cool to see how Togashi recycles certain themes in his writing! Great stuff as always!
Hunter x Hunter is such an amazing series! Your videos give such a great insight to the intricacies of this and many other series. I adore your content!
I'm not crying, you're crying 😭 That was one of the most beautiful episodes i've ever seen in anime Thank you, Aleczandxr, for all the effort and work you put in your videos, I feel like you're the friend that I can have a long conversation with about hxh that I've never had.
Oh man, such great analysis like always, thanks! The moment of the family reunion I was just bawling and it's literally the only episode that made me cry in the entire series
Niiiice video I really liked how you put on paper what we notice but don't quite get a grasp of. I knew there was a story line there but didn't focus enough or understand what was PRECISELY going on. Thanks for another good video.
I knew what you we're gonna talk about right from the start . Although I kinda missed it in HxH . its a great plotpoint I remmember from Kingdom . Shika's adopted parent told her this in his dying breath : 'It doesn't matter how small it is...Pass on the kindness you have been dealt to the next person. That's how it all works .By doing that people become connected to each other' .
It really touches my heart to see you give these wonderful moments their dues. The kind of moments that make me tell people that HxH is not only a fantastic anime and manga, but a marvelous work of fiction period. This is precisely why Togashi is one of my favorite creators and inspirations. He puts his characters through just the most arduous, disturbing, and down right depressing of challenges imaginable, yet despite all the trauma, they still see the light at the end of tunnel. He captures the evolving nature of the human experience, where nothing ever stays in either light or darkness. That life is so much more beautiful when put through hardship. A lot of these moments for me really harkens back to the Chapter Black Arc in YuYu Hakusho. Where Kuwabara shows compassion for one the Sensui Seven who later becomes an alley for the rest of the arc. Nearly all of the Sensui Seven (psychics recruited by Sensui for the uninitiated) begin as nihilistic followers who want to see the end of humanity, find new purpose in their lives and move forward by seizing that light. One could even say that Togashi built upon these ideas of kindness further in HxH, as it is much more fully realized in through out the series.
Your use of FFX music was so fitting. Beside that, thank you for reminding of this very important character. You do good work and bring the philosophical light on this show it deserves.
HxH is one of the most richly textured and layered series I’ve ever seen, every time I watch it, I see a different plot thread or connection that I hadn’t noticed before. It’s an absolutely fantastic story, goddamn does Togashi know how to write.
Thanks for talking about a really under-discussed topic in Hunter x Hunter and one of my favorite scenes. Even though it was minor, Hunter x Hunter has such good writing that it made me feel sad emotions regardless.
Good timing for the video. I just rewatched the episode 136 earlier today. It really is beautiful and i also had to think about this thematic connection of what i called the "the light" instead of "torch". I also liked, that the episode closed the chimera ant arc nicely where it had started.
I love how something so generic and simple like the death of Reina and her brother actually served as a massive emotional backbone to so much of the arc. Colt served as essentially the main character for a good portion of it for me and then of course there is everything that happened with Reina. HxH really made me care about such simple characters that would have been entirely pointless and forgettable in any other show.
I love the idea that everyone on earth could be a part of a gain chain of kindness we pass from person to person. We might never know who passed it to our predecessor and we might never know who our successor would pass it to. I love to have a narrative thread like that in my writing.
I’ve never done patrion but I’m going to do it just for you! Your character analysis and breakdown is true art!! Keep it up! You’ve gotten me into other series as well just because I know you know what’s good!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!
Im late on this vid, but I'm emotionally ecstatic to see it now. I loved the payoff when welfin stood up to youpi when previously he would have tried to politic his way out of the situation, and when welfin tells mereum the truth that he recognized no king but gyro, was really a cool moment, as up till that point welfin had always been careful to say the words needed to further his goal and survival, and by defing mereum he resigned to sacafrice himself for his own values, and when he was spared by mereum as he himself had grown, was able to help secretary bizeff move forward from his seemingly ruined life.

When he showed the scene where the mom hugged reina and were crying
I uncontrollably shed a few tears when I remembered what she said to her 😭
It continuously impresses me how you're able to shine light on show's underlying messages and present them in such clear manner.
For most people (including myself), it's difficult to make sense of the reasons why we love these shows.
And then I see yours videos and think: Ah, that's the reason.
Thanks for your hard work, and for putting into words the things we can't.
You’re very welcome, I’m glad that they’re so valuable for you. Please continue to enjoy and support, if you can!
yo, that episode made me cry so much out of happiness
Not gonna lie the moment when Reina met her mother again was the only time cried. The way the mother instantly recognizes her daughter and accepts her appearance is so beautiful :)
Thank you for making this video!! I feel that Brovada's little journey is so underappreciated but I never thought of it as the last piece of kindness being payed forward in such a string of events. Truly amazing.
You’re welcome!
I just finished greed island: "This shonen is the best ever, it can't get any better"
Chimera ants arch: "Hello there"
I've always appreciated this storyline, so it makes me really happy to see a video dedicated to it.
I'm from Tunisia
It's Arab country
You have the best understanding to hunter x hunter

@casual complaints I care ! Firas dont listen to him
Thank you! Glad you enjoy the videos!
@@admagma2716 respect🙇🙇🙇🙇
You could even take it a step further by saying that the torch of kindness goes back to Mito's decision to raise a child that wasn't hers initially
this is such a heartwarming and beautiful video! every time you post one of your hxh analysis videos i gain even more appreciation for this series, so thank you!!
You’re welcome, and thanks!
I’m actually crying! The deep analysis that you continue to mine from this show is incredible. Keep it up! Think I’m going to need a rewatch soon.
Glad you liked it.
Man you never stop to awe me by how much of HXH you can explore, and always bring something new, some new perspective, or clarity to Togashi's writing! Love your videos man, keep it up!
Thanks! Nothing lasts forever, but I’ll do my best for now.
I truly appreciate the depth of understanding you wield and the clear expression you give in your videos allows so many more people to connect through this medium
You outdid yourself with this one. Incredible.
Thanks!
I don't always see everyone of your videos simply because some anime I haven't watched yet, but I always love the videos. You always go in depth about the stories itself, and especially about the characters. Thanks for your great videos.
You’re welcome, very glad that you enjoy them.
Thanks, glad that you find them valuable!
I love how my boy Ikalgo getting some love and recognition.. I never thought of those scenes of his in the CA arc as boring. He was part of the action too, even if on a smaller scale
Shit's beautiful and imma cry
the editing in the end literaly brought me to tears, sooo beautiful!
Thank you for making a video on this. I think about this series of events a lot, and I'm glad you're giving it the kudos it deserves.
You’re very welcome.
Thank you for pointing this out and just makin analysis videos in general ive learned alot about myself and how the world work through them and its very aspiring to me.
You’re welcome.
Nail, head. That whole arc was emotionally challenging, but I really liked this side story. Thanks for bringing attention to it!
It was an honour!
Thank you so much for talking about this topic. This is something I always thought about but no one ever really seemed to acknowledge so thank you so much.
You’re very welcome.
Cheers!
How can it be? How can it be that every time I look one of your videos about Hunter x Hunter, I like it even more?
Hunter x Hunter is such an amazing series! Your videos give such a great insight to the intricacies of this and many other series. I adore your content!
Very glad to hear it!
I'm not crying, you're crying 😭
That was one of the most beautiful episodes i've ever seen in anime
Thank you, Aleczandxr, for all the effort and work you put in your videos, I feel like you're the friend that I can have a long conversation with about hxh that I've never had.
You’re very welcome!
Oh man, such great analysis like always, thanks! The moment of the family reunion I was just bawling and it's literally the only episode that made me cry in the entire series
I appreciate these videos because they help me appreciate this awesome series.
Man your insight and video structure are always top-notch, thanks for another great video
Thanks!
Man, this was a beautiful video, brought a tear to my eyes
Thanks very much.
Best explanation video as always....no one else can describe as beatifully and impactful as yours...thank you so much
You’re so welcome!
Amazing. To be able to recognize that in the midst of all the great parts (Gon and Neferpitou, Meruem and Netero, etc) is incredible. Congratulations.
Many thanks.
I just re-watched some older hxh videos you had and you just gave another. Love it
Another amazing analysis. Love your work.
"All you need is love. Love is all you need." - Beatles
Thank you.
Your use of FFX music was so fitting.
Beside that, thank you for reminding of this very important character. You do good work and bring the philosophical light on this show it deserves.
It was my pleasure.
HxH is one of the most richly textured and layered series I’ve ever seen, every time I watch it, I see a different plot thread or connection that I hadn’t noticed before. It’s an absolutely fantastic story, goddamn does Togashi know how to write.
That moment when Reina went back to the village was when I broke down into the biggest man baby. It cemented my love for the Chimera Ant Arc.
Wow, this was an emotional journey of a video. You sir, have great content on your channel.
You just Keep blowing my mind with things i never noticed, deepening my love for the series
I actually didn't notice this until I saw the video, truly master story on just one act of kindness and the chance on passing it forward
I really appreciate that! Every little bit of support is really important, thank you!
All of the titles in these hunter x hunter videos are perfect.
A super well-thought analysis. Love this channel
Cheers.
Gon and Killua are as much of an incredible duo as Aleczandxr and a Hunter x Hunter analysis
Im late on this vid, but I'm emotionally ecstatic to see it now.
I thought about this watching your prior vids awhile back, but more than anyone in this world, I think you deserve to see this story end, because without you, so many people would have maybe missed what was something so life changing for me.
Thanks for doing what you do mate, subscriber 4 life
Amazing. I never even thought of the connection from reina to gon. standing ovation forreal.
This was really nice. I skipped a couple of the Ikalgo episodes because I wanted to get to the "good parts." But this did shed some light on more subtle aspects so thank you.
Wow I've never realized this. Such a simple yet beautiful progression
Happy birthday Aleczandxr (even if it is 7 days late) ! Also, i never rushed so fast for a youtube video!
Thanks!
Congratulations being closer to death u mean.
it is all about seeing the glass half full :)
@@Aleczandxr Happy birthday dude. Finding your Meruem video way back in the day legitimately changed my life. Before, I was just a casual consumer of stories that didn't really care to recognize the intricacies of storytelling. However, after that video, I've become so enraptured by it that I've started writing my own stories. So thank you very much and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your life.
I’m rewatching hunter x hunter and you uploaded this on the perfect timing since I’m at the start of the Chimera ant arc again.
A man of real culture would always click on aleczandxr's videos.
Your videos are criminal man, keep doing them, you are the man
Great analysis. Ikalgo section was the least engaging in the Chimera Ant arc but after watching this I've gained a new appreciation for it
Thanks, glad to hear it.
Man you make good videos. Anything HxH really gets me in the feels.
To those out there without someone to be your light, just know we care about you and are rooting for you. Try to be the light in someone else's life, and with a little bit of luck you're love and friendship's will grow. Being that positive force will lead you to the people you wanna have in your life . Thanks for the video my friend. Made me feel really fortunate to the friends who have helped me along the way. And made me feel really proud of the influence I'm becoming.
Dame, I didn’t think this video would get a tear out of me. But I’m happy it did.
Ill never get tired of seeing a notification from Aleczandzr on a Friday about Hunter x Hunter
That was great. I never looked it that way. Your interpretations and analysis always blows my mind. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed.
this video really set down the stone. i really fucking love your channel
