This residence in suburban Ahmedabad revels in delicate tracery and the warmth of natural light. As a response to the client’s needs of simplicity, low-maintenance and soothing spaces, this home, designed specifically for an elderly couple, unfolds through simple, efficient planning.
Beginning with a compact site area of 1,300 sq. ft., the architects transformed the constraints of space through a play of interconnected volumes and double-height spaces vertically across the floor plates. Using embedded knowledge and the traditional building science of Vaastu Shastra, the internal zoning and articulation were planned effectively for this south-facing house.
Architect Tapan Shah narrates the story of this compact home in Isanpur, Ahmedabad.

I see, lots of houses have solar panel installed on their roof. Gujrat is progressing very quickly compare to other states.
In bangalore, it is compulsory to install solar panels for houses over 1200 sq feet

Neautiful designed but I'm not sure the maintenance would be easy for an old couple especially that terra cotta wall.But beautifully designed using the limited square acreage.
Sad to see there are hardly any trees in that locality. Promote green open spaces for better quality of life.
There is no parking space given in the building. I am not sure the reason behind this but it's a basic need of a home that is not considered while planning.

The only thing which this house lacks is the Green area.
This is a really honest design no doubt...but the video is unnecessarily long and a lot of time was taken to make a point and there were too many repetitions...

Does anyone have roughly costing idea for the nearby size of the plot ?
Honest doubt: How would the old couple clean the jaali and how would they change the light bulbs. Also, how would they be able to climb the stairs if no lift was provided.
There is lift and they can always have maids to clean.
Agreed. I didn't see a lift in the video, may be I missed. Maids and maintenance regularly is an expensive affair. I was wondering if there is a way where we can minimize such things.
