2024 Chanukah Yarns are Ready to Ship! chemknitscreations.etsy.com/?section_id=25065368 Mini Skein Samplers, Full Skeins, Stitch Markers, and Bonus Colorways!
I just stumbled upon your channel tonight during an ongoing bout of insomnia. The fact that you dyed all of these yarns and filmed in October to post now for an unboxing/video premiere is impressive, dedication and proof you have farsight. Thank you for the beautiful yarn candy visual goodness. I'll have to save some money for some yarn to knit a shawl i did in inexpensive and boring colorways (bought on sale because I was learning to knit) however I am an avid crocheter but mainly blankets so hand dyed just isnt financially feasible for me... I need to that mega millions 😂😂😂 I realized i wasnt watching that video 😳 I should be sleeping 😂
Solidarity with insomnia, but I'm glad you found my videos! My Chanukah Special is the biggest series of videos I do all year - normally I post more like 2x/ week versus every night. :D
Amazing! 🤩Dear Rebecca, your ideas are fantastic. A lot of inspirations ... And your charming chat.... Wonderful! Hope to see many more.... All the best for you and your family
The capillary/wicking was fascinating to watch especially the travel up and over the pan sides. Whilst it wasn’t the plan this time around be fun to play around with . Seems you have already established one yarn base is more prone than another. I wonder how much travel is related to twist etc etc. Wonderful project lovely colourway.
This was really pretty! I mostly crochet, so the hand-painted racoon stripes would likely not show up very nicely for me. A chunkier stripe of dye could possibly let me have at least one full stitch per color. Wouldn't that be fun to dye stripes the approximate length of 2 double crochets in whatever guage you'd use for the finished project. Ooh, or dye a stripe the length of a full granny cluster!
Hmmm, I have never used Guar Gum with dyes, but the thickener I have used also does not list using it with acid dyes. Aw shucks! Now I need to buy something else from Amazon. Definitely have to try it!
I was wondering the same thing...but also if she had made a siphon effect. I think those ends were wet which could potentially act like the start of a siphon, and then the ends hung lower than the level of the water. If that's the case, it seems like hanging them higher should limit the wicking...also the water would have nowhere to go but back into the bath.
Ultimately I don't think there was THAT much wicking beyond what happened immediately. I could be wrong, but I would need to look closer at everything. The movement of the liquid likely pushed color up... but again I can't be completely sure. (obviously there was a little bit, but I don't think it continued once I left things in the pan)
If you let the yarn dry with the thickeners in then yes, it could add some stiffness. However, the guar gum rinses out of the yarn completely if you don't let it dry - and I hvaen't noticed any texture differences, personally.
Another wonderful video resulting in more ideas dancing in my head. 💜💜💜 Question: are the sponge brushes used with guar gum easy to clean or are they throw aways?

The color transitions make me grin. Love the color thumbnail!

I think it would be hard for me to set it up in a very reproducable way, but I do want to explore it more.
@ If you do, consider the syphoning effect someone else mentioned . Oh boy fluid dynamics who knew 😃!
It was cool to see the bright aqua breaking in the guar gum. You always do such an awesome job.
Thank you! I think if I had stirred the aqua a lot more I could have reducd this, but it was fun to see those green pops.
This was fun to watch. I found it interesting. I would like to try it. I wounded how it would look all knitted up
Thank you!!

Happy Chanukah! Such pretty colors! My favorites!
Thank you so much!
Oooo, so sad I had to miss the premiere (driving home from work :( ), but so in love with this colorway!! Teal is my everything
Thank you so much!! And no worries on missing the premiere

What thickener do you usualyl use?
As I watched, I wondered if the ends on the dry side would have been suspended by some sort of dowel rod would this slow or prevented the wicking

I heard the thickeners make the yarn feel not as soft. What do you think?

I clean them and reuse them until the foam breaks down. :D Cleaning them with guar gum is similar to cleaning with blank
Break that violet! Break that violet! BREAK THAT VIOLET!
I need to do a faux broken violet with acidd yes
@ChemKnitsTutorials it's a beautiful color. I think I noticed at the end that the violet seemed to have broken. Am I wrong?
What the pan level on the stove, might have more water at the end and was there 2 different shades of the green that I missed watching.
I used teal, bright aqua, and royal purple
