I knew Len Lesser personally. He was a kind man who really appreciated the fame that came to him so late in life. He worked his whole life as a character actor but he really was at the right age to appreciate being beloved by so many people. He was generous with his time and I wish I had had more with him as I knew him only about ten years before he died. One time after a play he invited me and a friend to, I offered to drive him back to his car which he had parked a few blocks away. He couldn't remember where he had parked it so we circled around and around with the window down with Len clicking on his car alarm remote repeatedly to try and locate it and we all were laughing at the silliness of the situation. He was such a great guy.
He very much resembles Clarence Wilson, the old character actor in so many 1930s movies-only apparently taller than Wilson was. Neat guy here, thanks for posting this.
My favorite line by Len Lesser is: “Remove that pistol belt nice and slow, so I can count the hayeers on the back of that hand.” As Abe in The Outlaw Josey Whales.
To the interviewer: Thank you for your exquisite timing to allow Len to share his experiences at the sunset of his lifetime, shortly before his death. Shut off the video and listen and you hear that young, exciting man again from "Playhouse 90"...
I love the scene from Outlaw Josey Wales where (Abe)Len has Josey dead to rights and then starts chiding him only to get him and his partner shot dead. The sight of Len wrestling in futile desperation with his rifle after he is shot once and then looking like a dead Iguana with chewing tobacco on his forehead is a scene forever emblazoned on my psyche. As an aside, Uncle Leo was definitely my favorite Seinfeld character.
was a great character actor--first noticed in get smart in the episode-the decoy-his the one that insisted on torture-very funny guy--we remember him on this day-
Ahhh Len :( Though it was not a great role I will always remember you in the horror film RUBY (77) LEN: Get the lady some popcorn huh!? He always had a reconizable face even when I was 7 yrs old R.I.P. Len
To me he will always be "Abe" from *The Outlaw Josey Wales* _You see Lige...you pull his teeth, he's harmless as a heel hound. Always wanted to face down one of these pistol fighters they raise all the fuss about. Only way to handle them._
