ZL1 is 100% stock on the 10 speed automatic transmission.
Z06 is 100% Stock on the 8 speed automatic transmission.
Both cars took 1 passenger.
1st race was from 40 MPH
2nd race was from 60 MPH
3rd race was from 40 MPH again

Good runs. Was expecting to see the ZL1 keep up a little better.
Zl1 without the 1LE package would have done slightly better on a straight line race. But still probably loses.
@@Javaris-Jamar-Javarison-Lamar the weight and drag difference from the 1LE on a 40 roll would be barely noticeable- the z06 would walk it exactly the same. 60 roll... i'm with you, it will have more impact

Awesome races dude, great cars running great cars. The ZL1 is so aggressive looking, I'm surprised at how the ZO6 pulled away the way it did. I've got the '17 ZL1 10sp and I've raced the ZO6 both the manual and the auto, I've beat the 7sp manual ZO6 by 1/2 a car length to 140mph, and lost to the auto ZO6 but not as bad as this. Great stuff on your channel, keep it up. How you're able to get these new cars to race I don't know but it's awesome.

Definitely good video / that A8 like other comments below. I remember article from GM that model was design and built to at least try to close the gap of PDK ( porsche) so it shifts quick!!

Also its the 1le. That spoiler and all that unnecessary stuff slows it down believe it or not. That car is meant for circuit. Would love to see the regular zl1 up against it

As a previous Camaro owner and now a C7 Z06 owner, this makes sense. It's just physics, really. The A10 really helps the Camaro make up for its weight and that damn 5th gear in the A8 might as well be the parachute for the Corvette. You can see the pull coming to an almost complete stop once the Corvette got into 5th. Same power, lighter car, etc. Yeah, the aero on the 1LE doesn't help it at all and a regular ZL1 would have put up more of a fight but, I think the results would have been nearly the same.
I thought I was the only1 that thought my C7Z falls on its face into 5th also,really bad 😂.
@@zo6zr1joey52 nope, you’re not alone. Plug in the A8 gear ratios into a trans or gear calculator and you’ll see how messed up they are. I don’t know the logic GM used to calculate those gear ratios but the 4-5 ratio change is killer for acceleration. The best thing to combat that is trans tuning but it still won’t fix it completely. You’ll need completely different gear rations to fix that mess.

All down force addons on the 1LE such as the dive planes and spoiler definitely held it back some but also doesn't the C8 have a dual clutch system? Less gears, dual clutch = faster acceleration? Aside from the weight differences of course.
True about the ZL1 1LE aero, the regular ZL1 would be closer I think. The 8 speed auto in the ZO6 is a smart trans, as for the ZL1's 10sp, it figures out optimal mapping based on how you're driving. The harder you hit the gas is how aggressive the shifts are, up or down, the 10sp auto is as good as any automatic out there today. If someone blows it up it's gonna run $25k+ to replace. When I bought this I drove the '17 ZO6 auto and the '17 ZL1 and chose the ZL1. With every option box checked except the engine block heater it came in $23500 less than the ZO6.
@@dominicksforza3484 I placed a deposit for a 2022 last month but mostly for street strip fun, with all the chip shortages and such I have a feeling i will be approaching in stock C8 prices, or at least what some of these dealers are willing to settle for. My dealer had a sticker of 100k. I laughed. When we were building the 6th gen ZL1, he tried to sell me on the C8. I respectfully declined and told him the price is out of line. Lol

This was a good match up. Nice video! If you find a non 1LE ZL1 10 speed, you should do the race again to see how much of an actual difference it makes.
Or find a stock Zo7 with all the aero add ons with a 8 speed. That would be cool too! I'd like to see a 7 speed non Zo7 Z try the 10 spd ZL1 too!
I've got the Z07 on my Z06. Doesn't make a difference. Weight is key here

Very few. I know of 2 pesonally One is a C63 amg with bigger turbos and another a c43 amg thats being built now

Own a Camaro 2020 2SS , use to have the 2017 1ss and let me tell you the corvette always is gonna be slicing through the air better
You could tell the guy in the Camaro was just punching it and loosing that initial ground... he needs to manually start in the correct gear
I was thinking that he is probably manually shifting instead of letting the trans do it's thing.

Zl1 1le are track weapons ..as you can see that aero and weight don't help it in the straights and the 8 speed trans in the c7 still shifts fast as fu*$ plus the lighter weight and better aero then bam.sucks tho I wanted the camaro to win but I can't get sad it's a damn z06 they move...do a heads and cam package with a pulley on both these cars and you got a 1000 hp..both sick rides..well...atleast 850hp.

Zl1 needs to be in the right gear when hitting it rather than kicking down. That an non 1 le version is faster due to less aero.
That's the part of online videos you never know, the person could be at fault to for not knowing, when roll racing my zl1 I'll put it in manual in what gear you want and soon as you take off slap the shifter over and it'll do the rest

10 speed is good for track…8 speed is good for highway racing
This was pretty shocking for only a 300 pound difference. In race math , every 100 pounds equals 10hp , so That little bit made the difference.
Gear ratio is 2.41 for the z06 and 2.85 for the ZL1. I would have expected the ZL1 to have jumped a little harder given this.

Nothing wrong with the 8-speed. I just notice that the 10 speed is much more responsive with the paddles. The 8 speed vettes have an annoying shift delay when you do it manually.
That’s why I got mine in manual I knew I wouldn’t like it in auto I’ve seen someone I kno tune his zr1s tranny tho so it’s faster

Yes, with stage 1 aero. It won't be as fast with stage 2 or 3 aero for the rear spoiler.

ZLE need a serious - DRIVER MOD the ZLE drive Sleeps at the launch and ALSO is not in the right gear, soon as he hits it you hear the car down shift - this race should be ALOT closer

Only way to test, is to do it from a dig. This roll racing, doesn't prove anything, depending on which gear you're in, differential gears, or driver errors.
This was so bogus guess it helps his ego.
Race the regular zl1 10 speed. That huge wing kills the straight line acceleration more than people think it has too much drag. The 1le was made to be a beast around the track not the fastest in the straights.
