I suggest a Yamaha aes-920. They were made in Japan for about $1500 retail but can be had for half of that now. African mahogany back, thick quilt maple top, top quality pots and hardware, and seymour duncan 59's. I got mine for less than 800 shipped and it's basically a Gibson non-weight relieved les paul standard with a AAA top but no neck binding.
I agree with the others - keep it simple, keep it to one. I was already a little disappointed when you started doing "sale-cash-buys" rather than swaps (I do understand why you did though, as things were moving rather slowly). :( BTW have you considered buying an ozone generator to remove the smoke and pet smells? I wouldn't recommend storing your guitars in a room with an ozone generator, but I think that coupled with a fan (especially for a fur-lined case - open in front of the fan), that 48 hours behind a closed door in a room where an ozone generator has run for a few hours, would likely deal with most of the unpleasant smells.
My e tune works flawlessly. Most people think you can just bang on the strings, not so. Just pick the tuning you want and pick one string at a time and it works flawlessly.
Glad to see a review with a MinE-tuned Gibson. I have a 2014 SG Futura with the minE tune and used it for five tunings in a set (Std, 1/2 down, Open G, DADGAD and double drop D). It replaced four additional guitars onstage. No complaints from me!
@Drive-By Troll Sorry to hear that your system is failing you. While there have been times where tuning takes 3-4 tries, this SG never goes out once it is tuned.
I had a G-Force system and it was impossible to use in loud environments (like, uh, almost everything you'd use an electric guitar for). It would either tune to the loudest sound it heard (the bassist, the kick drum, passing diesel trucks, etc), or do nothing at all, or just spontaneously wind a string until it snapped or detune it until it was totally limp. In quiet environments, like a bedroom or the office of a Gibson CEO, it worked great, except for the idiotic brass nut; because steel doesn't slide over brass, it just digs into it, which meant it'd only stay in tune for a minute or two anyway. But the G-Force would tune it right back up like a champ for the half-hour the battery would last. I had it for six months and never once got through an entire song in tune.
@Drive-By Troll I have the same guitar but have never had an issue with it. Maybe I'm an outlier, but I love the Min-etune. I wouldn't want it on all of my guitars, but it's just so much fun to go from open E to drop C to all 4ths and back. It's one of my favorite toys.
@Drive-By Troll You are doining it WRONG. Problably stringing it incorrectly. These tuners work great for switching tunings fast and they stay in tune. I got one of these Tronical systems on my strat.
Have same guitar as you love the E-tune been playing for over 40 years.Would not want on all my guitars.I could see live maybe a problem for e tune with other stuff vibrating the strings
people miss the fact that you can self tune if you wish with etune. and you have a 40:1 gear ratio which is much more precise than stock or even replacement manual tuners.
I change my strings on a regular basis without all this drama... and the etune system is really helpful and all my friends actually are amazed with the speed and accuracy with the tuning...
That's nice.it sure was in tune just after you put those fresh strings on it.sounded great.I think that was a line they may called the "futura'.its a rocker!i dig it!(just don't coil split) Angus young would crank that thing into a stack and have a happy day!
After 6 months apprenticeship in a guitar store/repair workshop i was the witness to 4 Mini-E-Tune/G-Tune changes. I Remember i owned one a long time ago on my 70's Tribute LP and it wasn't THAAAT bad but i Completely understand why people do change them
Oh you had to throw the S word in for that Sully Erna Ehh Austin? Lol - yeah mine is not stock, I ripped out that stupid flange control and put in a regular tone control. With the fancy way I wired it I get 4 different sounds just by turning the tone. If I have it 9,10 you would swear I was running a wah pedal. If you do ever get to check out the Erna model you have to crank that distortion up and check out the sustain that puppy has!! The body is a full 2 inch thick, 2 1/4 at the center I guess and with only having the single pickup you got a lot more wood and mine will out perform anything else I have, and I have over 20 guitars to compare it with lol. Yeah they can stick those Etune things. I followed the directions to the letter and the B tuner stripped and I can't remember if it was the B or D that just would not stay in tune and I read where others were complaining of the same, it would stay just a touch out of tune on the high side and if you manually adjusted it the electronics would bring it back into out of tune every single time! I don't blame Gibson for that issue though, those are outsourced products.
First thing I did with my Min-e-Tune from an SG of that same year was remove the system, sell it, and replace it with standard tuners. Eventually selling both.
I have a 120th anniversary SG-M with the Min e-Tune. Of course they were a bit of a learning curve, but once you understand them they are actually very good. I can change strings very quickly after getting used to the e-tune. I also have a dozen custom tunings that are only a click of a button and a strum. I only have them on the SG. My other guitars are standard tuners or locking tuners. I have to admit, I have gone to grab the pegs and tweak the tuning, but a tap of the button and it's done. Mine does not have the split coil, which doesn't bother me.
Another great job! You confirmed my gut feeling about avoiding the pita Min e tune. The guitar sounds great but the tuning system/pegs need more innovation to cut down on labor time. Keep on rockin'!
I've never used a robotuner, but after watching you use it I absolutely HATE IT! Having to screw on post nut to hold the string is a problem waiting to happen. Gibson ought to offer a free replacement with normal tuners.
Not that it matters now but... I had a 2013 LP with MinETune and it worked fine until the first time I used an alternate tuning. After that, standard tuning was always a little sharp. No matter how many times I calibrated it, it would always go sharp the next time you used it.
Got one of these Tronical tuners on my strat, works great, don't know what the fuss is all about. They string just like locking tuners, and they tune just fine. Problably just some old folks whining about change, just like the Gibson Standard changes causes whining.
I think it’s worth spending $20-30 for some Wilkinson kluson vintage style tuners instead of that wacky auto tuning stuff. U can get them shipped for that price off of eBay shipped for that price. And they’re not Chinese knockoffs.
Very nice I love SG's. Also, remember, if action is too low, bends will fret out. -Joe Walsh's advice I wouldn't want to have to plug by guitar in to recharge battery's. I'd forget more then remember. Then also, we all know how rechargeable battery's last.... they lose there capacity to hold charge.
i scored a 2014 / 120th anniversary standard Heritage Cherry in mint condition Kluson tuners not even a single pick scrape on the pickguard with the Gibson USA hardshell case for $500 and a stand with leather strap also.
Trogly, if you want weird and 700 dollars ish, go for an Epiphone 63 reissue Firebird VII. They are fantastic guitars in my opinion and as weird as they get.

Can you tune this thing regularly, or the only way to turn the machine heads is the robot? Becouse if so, the tuning keys are worthless to be there. So strange... I stay with oldschool hand tuning.
Electronic tuning is Nutso! I'm not bragging but I have a perfect ear. I can hear songs on the radio and tell when they're in the key of a or g. I can tune a guitar just f i n e
Have a g force les paul jr. You have to download the directions and do the calibration modes every time you change strings and it should tune better. Love the pizza shirt.
I think that the Min-E Tune was a good idea for studio use but it was bad advertised...anyways you can fit an Evertune in the guitar and don’t waste your time tuning
I destroyed my pal's eTune Gibson LP. I just raised the action a bit and put .013s and the headstock popped off. Thought he'd kill me, but he said he's thankful that he can replace the neck n head with a normal one
Just so you know, as someone who has owned my 2014 120th anniversary sg standard. Please remove the Etune. Tuning stability was TERRIBLE until I removed it for Grover locking tuners. You may not notice it completely but when doing lots of bending for 10 minutes or so in certain songs it's completely out. At least mine was all the time. Still one of my favourite guitars ever
Only by removing the Etune. On mine you can’t just twist the tuners, you have to let the robot do it. That is really frustrating but for the sake of having a novelty to use for alternate tunings, I like mine.
I got a 2015 sg used that came stock with robot tuners but the last guy traded it for grovers but i still need to replace the zerofret brass nut, its basically the same thing as that but sunburst with a ibanez like neck profile it is awesome i can shred for days on that and it came with 57 classics too
Does anyone know why the previous owner might have disliked the neck on the SG 120th anniversary? Is it too fat and not a slim profile as many websites indicate? Or does anyone know how it compares to a 2019 SG standard in term of the neck depth on the 1st and 12th fret? I'm about to close a deal on one of these but now I got all freaked out about the neck because I'm not a fan of very fat necks. Thanks in advance if someone can help me! :)
If I had that SG I'd take that fucking ETune system off and replace it with traditional Kluson style Gibson tuners or Kluson style Grover locking tuners.
I have one except it has a P90 in the front and a 15 db boost switch. To answer your question these came wit a gig bag and the min e tune is horrible. Because of the min e tune it doesn't get played very much I keep saying I'm gonna change it but here we are .
@@spinynorman4382 Mine won't tune properly it's out I took it to the shop I bought it from they couldn't straighten it out. Oh well I'm glad yours work's for you . I like the idea though!
In theory, these style tuners should be the future. But I just hate them. In my humble opinion, the guitar is and instrument that is all hands on. Which would include tuning, playing and care. Adding this robotic tuner kind of removes a person one step back from the process. A guitar is made for the hands on type of person. If that seems tedious to a person, perhaps they should pick up one of those crappy plastic guitars and just play guitar hero. And then sell their real guitar to someone else that would actually enjoy it. Just my two cents. Maybe I'm an old fashioned purist.
When I was new at guitar, and couldn't tune it myself. That would have seemed amazing. But I wouldn't have learned to tune by ear and feel, tune on the fly, or experienced happy accidents, this is why modern music is so lame!....didn't I see jimi replace a string on stage without stopping playing?
I have these tuners on my les Paul And I totally disagree once you get used to them they are very quick to restring a guitar and are very convenient for quick tune ups
Interesting to see opinions on the tuners vary from very negative to very positive... Opinions always vary though... I don't think I can decide for someone else but I think the one mistake is that Gibson did... I saw a Gibson awhile ago that really peaked my interest but it was only available with robot tuners... I would've liked the option not to have them instead of going through the hassle and extra cost of replacing them Now I'm into headless guitars though and selling almost everything else... So I'm glad I didn't get it anyway

40% price hike as a trade up for the next guy, sounds pretty steep, especially since they usually go for $5-700

Cool lil pizza slice. He/she is gonna grow into a full size pizza & spend all this pizza dough you're making so keep it up. Lol. ;)
Really nice guitar but I couldn’t do with the tuning system, that would stress me out, as would restringing the guitar.
The trade tuesday lore just gets better

i'm supposed to be playing thrash/death and beyond metal but SG's are so damn attractive to me i might aswell have to get one
I'd rather have a guitar that can automatically adjust intonation. I find myself constantly fiddling with my bridge.
I keep on seeing people cut strings instead of taking them off, and I dont know why they'd do that, surely it would scratch the fretboard?

UGH! ROBOT TUNERS!! Just take them off and put a set of Grover's on it!

Digging the Joe Walsh!!!
i just saw that pick brand. that is my favorite non-fender pick brand!
Take it off! that's one reason juskowitz is gone
Nice SG I always was kinda leery of the min-e tun ! great channel thanks for sharing like #358 and rang that bell !
If the system was just More intuitive it would've been an awesome feature
It's not rocket science dude
I couldn't imagine dealing with that on a dark stage. No thanks.
Probably should have just kept the P Bass...Boring but a great instrument to have around...
Those electric tuners are total bullshit and are way too time consuming just to change strings.
This used to my guitar I found the mini tune pretty simple to run
Life's been good to me so far... 🤘😎🎸
Interesting to see opinions on the tuners vary from very negative to very positive... Opinions always vary though... I don't think I can decide for someone else but I think the one mistake is that Gibson did... I saw a Gibson awhile ago that really peaked my interest but it was only available with robot tuners... I would've liked the option not to have them instead of going through the hassle and extra cost of replacing them
Now I'm into headless guitars though and selling almost everything else... So I'm glad I didn't get it anyway
What about an sgx?
Nice pizza shirt!!!!!!!!
I do wish sg guitars would come standard with the large scratch plate. I lust don’t like them with the small one
Can u make a custom trogladite pizza shirt available to your subscribers? That sg is beautiful btw.
I've never actually seen those robot tuners in "action".
Until now.
Dear God. It's terrible.
You're being dramatic. Geforce works just fine.
Just checked my Firebird, no fretnibs
