So that is Nightwish with their 2nd singer. Nightwish is a finnish symphonic metal band. They have had 3 singers, Tarja Turunen was the first (she sounds more operatic), this is Anette Olson (more poppier sound) and their current singer Floor Jansen (she can sing pasically everything). This music video might be a bit confusing, the band consists of the guys on this video and they have a female singer. The other girls on this video, except for the singer, were hired for this video. The bass player, who is singing is Marko Hietala(he's no longer in the band).
The bands history is extremely complicated and everyone has their own side of what happened and all that.
But I recommend for you to continue and for next watch their performance of Ghost Love Score live from Wacken 2013. There is their current singer Floor. That will blow your mind. Nightwish is always at best when heard live.

I discovered Nightwish and Floor Jansen the current front woman and lead singer 12 months ago and have had my musical world turned inside out and upside down eversince having buried myself deep down in the Nightwish rabbit hole soaking up everything Nightwish from the wonderful Tarja and Anette eras and now the incomparable Floor. You are in for one heck of a ride if you continue with your Nightwish journey. They are phenomenal live. Thank you gents. Paul - Nightwish Army England UK Division 🙏😊👍

Hello David [daviddarko] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This music video in from their 6th studio album "Dark Passion Play" (2007), featuring the 2nd female singer of the band, Anette Olzon, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "

Hello again guys. Thank you for listening to Nightwish, like I asked you to do. I'm sorry your video got blocked in some parts of the world. That's probably because you chose to go with a music video. The girls featured in this video are not part of the band. You did however see Nightwish's second singer, Anette Olzon (2007 - 2012). Their first singer, Tarja Turunen, was with them from 1996 - 2005. Their current singer is Floor Jansen, one of the best female vocalists in metal (in any genre really) today.
It's good to see you liked Nightwish, but you haven't seen anything yet. Like I said in my recommendation, Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give 'Romanticide', live at Wacken 2013 a try (my original recommendation) or 'Ghost Love Score' at that same show. Expect to be surprised!
If you want to know more about the band, take look at Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon). You'll find lots of background info in his comment. He will also refer you to a long list with song suggestions.
I hope you'll be back soon, listening to Nightwish. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Nightwish is a symphonic metal band from Finland, founded in 1996. This song was a message to the original female vocalist after she was fired. The girls are hired help for the video except for the vocalist. (There's a video Making of BBB.) The fans of the original vocalist accused the band for choosing Anette for her looks, so this was the band's reaction. Getting more female beauty to this video.
Tarja, 1996-2005, the original female vocalist had a very operatic style (check out Nightwish rendition of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, 2005 End of an Era DVD), Anette from Sweden, 2007-2012, you just heard her, had poppish/rock style, and the 3rd and current female vocalist, Floor Jansen from The Netherlands, 2012-, can sing any style from operatic to growling.
She was asked to replace Anette in a hurry when Nightwish was touring in The US in 2012. She had a couple of days to fly over and to learn the songs on the setlist! She had just recovered from burn out.
Nightwish is best live, (except for Anette maybe). I suggest you react to:
NIGHTWISH - SONG OF MYSELF Wacken 2013, this is heavy.
Performed in front of a crowd of 82 000 people. Excellent audio quality!
    Greetings from Finland!

Nightwish is all about telling stories, making spectacle on the stage and having great time interacting with fans in the audience, which is why their best work is live instead of music video.
To see an example: Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, from Bueons Aires concert

Best band ever. You have started with Anette Olzon, the 2nd lead vocalist of Nightwish. She is fantastic. But... believe it or not, the 1st lead vocalist Tarja is from another world. And the current singer, Floor Jansen, from another universe. Maybe Floor is the best female vocalist of our time. For Tarja the MUST reaction is "Phantom ot the Opera" live End of an era. For Floor Jansen "Ghost Love Score" live Wacken 2013. But be careful, deeeeeeepest rabbit hole of all time ;D Hope you will do this journey!!!

If you got THIS impressed by "Bye Bye Tarja", then you have A LOT of catching up to do.
"Opera metal" could be a decent way to describe their genre, especially early on, though there is literally nothing operatic in this particular song. It's rather simple and, I could say, "pop-metal" by their standards.
I could recommend "Ghost Love Score", "Song of Myself" or "Romanticide" next. All live from Wacken 2013. Why live? There is at least one big or, should I say, tall reason. You'll see.

Glad you enjoyed it. This is the second female singer, Anette Olzon, who is considered by most to be the weakest of Nightwish's three singers. When first singer, Tarja Turunen was sacked, so many accused Tuomas, keyboards and composer,of choosing this singer for her looks so he replaced the rest of the band with models in this video. Really worth watching live performances especially with third singer, Floor Jansen. Maybe start with anything from Wacken 2013 concert in front of 82,000. Most reactors start with Ghost Love Score which 10 minutes long and quite a journey vocally and musically or for a banger try Romanticide !

Whether you hear Nightwish live depends a lot on the singer. Lead vocalist Tarja sings largely as in the studio and is a bit stiff in the stage performance. The second singer Anette gives the songs a jazzy style that doesn't fit the music at all. She regularly smashed the music live. That's why her live videos have low click rates and you have to search for them. The third singer Floor lives from the crowd. If you send her on stage sick, she comes back healthy. Stylistically she is a mixture of her two predecessors and for me the ideal singer for Nightwish. The guy only appears from the third album and was then the ideal complement for all three female singers. Unfortunately, during the pandemic, he decided to stop making music and left the band. He recently announced a solo tour and that he wants to make music regularly again. Now someone just has to make it clear to him that he needs to do that again at Nightwish.
The song is a nasty obituary for the first singer with whom you ran into an argument. It was only played on one tour and then disappeared from the setlist.
