I purchased a large ball of this flat yarn.. had no idea how to use it... but it is a breast cancer awareness yarn, so pretty... now I know what to do with it.. .THANK YOU! A VERY HELPFUL TUTORIAL
I just purchased 5 skeins. I did exactly this, where I tolled it onto a cylinder so it would be flat , and it would roll off easily when I needed it. I am just now looking this up to learn more about the yarn. I put it on the bed and rolled the cylinder/yarn to the skin. Pulled the yarn out and pulled further away.. and rolled the cylinder towards the skein. It was pretty fast and easy. If you put this cylinder into a 2 gallon ziplock bag.. it will keep it clean and roll out as you need it without much effort. You can also tuck your project into the ziplock and keep it clean and ready to finish without worrying about it. Very Portable. Great video about how to use and crochet with the yarn ribbon.
Omg, I just bought this yarn a month ago at a dollar store. I made a fanny for my Mother-in-law for mothers day. Red heart didn't have patterns,; I didn't think to check RUclips, thanks.
Another thing: If you are familiar with making ruffle scarves from sashay yarn, which is super easy and doesn't require any crochet skills, you can do that with this as well! No traditional crochet chaining if you're not familiar or as experienced with it. I don't fold when I start, but I do start on the second "loop" of the "ladder." Skip one, then loop seven while spacing two at a time between loops(loop, skip two, loop, skip two, loop, skip two... Do that seven times). Skip one, loop seven more.. Keep repeating until you're at the end, then cut enough for a four or five inch "tail" to run through the last loop and tie off. There are a lot of great tutorials on ruffle scarves and ruffle scrunchies, and if you want to learn how to crochet I highly recommend the Crochet Guru. She's great and does everything in small and easy to learn lessons. I haven't crochet in at least ten years and I was able to relearn what I forgot; within one video teaching single crochet I could make a washcloth. Just thought I'd share. Have fun and good luck!
I agree with many of the other comments that it is very difficult to follow due to the dark colors and it is done too quickly to see what is being done. :(
I tend to make a chain, then I go through the ruffles I created by making the chain. It looks a lot more ruffled than simply knitting it. I hope that helps everyone who got lost after turning it.
I was so frustrated with how the yarn twisted when I tried my first ball/hank(hate saying hank but whatever), but once you undo it all, set it on the floor and stand up, then start rolling it on your craft roll. You get more room to roll before it might try twisting, but it's so much easier to untwist and keep it wrapping smoothly than if it was flat in front of you.
Lighter color would have worked better...........and more camera on the work and not on person........and how many balls do you use to make the scarf..
I agree! This is very confusing. You lost me after the first single crochet when you turn. We need a close up view of which stitch we are supposed to go through. It's hard to tell with this yarn where each stitch is located
When I was a child I remember spending hours holding skeins of wool while my Mum wound it into a ball. If no-one was available to hold it she put it over the back of a dining room chair. This would certainly be easier than doing it with the yarn laying flat on the table as shown here.
I wouldnt consider this 'yarn' - its material or ribbon- or anything but yarn. Secondary yarn- another weird term - its not secondary- its a few pieces of string to keep the hank straight. Recently heard someone refer to themselves as a crochet artist. Seriously... some of these terms make no sense to the craft.
I believe those that consider themselves crochet "artists" is due to their thinking outside the box of what most crocheter's make and use crochet for. Several month's ago I saw a gal in another country use crochet as actual "art" and had her's in an exhibit and had rave reviews for it, it was a lovely piece(s). I personally like the term "artist" since it is a special craft, like weaving, knitting, etc and it's not what it use to be "back in the day" and used in many different ways for other uses.
Just saw your comment and totally agree with you. I have this ribbon yarn in Grapevine and just found a matching yarn in the emerald greens and purples, with some rich blues in it and am trying to find an easy crop shrug, bolero, etc. to match a sleeveless dress I have to dress it up and planning to combine the two yarns. I am guessing it will probably take me a few weeks to find a pattern to work with...

Just bought some of this from the dollar store since I am learning and thought it was so pretty. Thank you for this!

such an awsome video. i bought the yarn and had no idea how to crochet it. ur video really helps
And then put the paper towel rolled yarn on an upright paper towel holder.
Thanks. I like these fun yarns.
Wish the video had been longer!!! Still plan to try it.

This is impossible. There is no way to find the space of the previous row to stitch into.

I didnt have an empty paper towel roll available.....soooooooooooo.. I used my rolling pin.. worked great

Sooo pretty!! ❤

I agree. could not see the stitches when turning. see my comment on how I finally made mine
if she had used a lighter color we could have seen that. I notice most people use dark colors for that lol
I could not see.....
Can you make scrunchies with this yarn?
does not show up well using dark yarn!
you have made this more confusing than is necessary!
THANK YOU!
I agree!

I was curious, but this appears to be very difficult. I think I'll leave this trend for later. :/
Where do you find the ribbon yarn like that. Certainly not at my local Walmart!
Actually, I found the exact yarn she used at my local Walmart.
Rocky Gal
Me too.
Rocky Gal Don't know why I never got this first message.. but I didn't.. I did find it at Walmart.. Thanks
1994abbygirl It is now at my local walmart that is why I watched this video to see what the heck it was!
I found it at my local Dollar Tree
use white next time, easier to see. Thanks though.
Aiyee!! This isn't worth the trouble but it is pretty. I've been crocheting for 59 years and I've never seen anything like it. It's ridiculous. Sorry.
Oh dear seems hard....
I couldn't see since the yarn is so dark and no close ups. This isn't a good how to video.

I don't think it looks nice on its own because it kinda ends up looking machine made, but it might look nicer combined with other yarn.

This is not the ribbon yarn I wanted help with. No one shows how to crochet the wide ribbon yarn.
+Barbara Holland Hi, Do you mean crocheting with Sashay? ruclips.net/video/Layi3SgWu-E/видео.html
Very confusing AND you were too fast
You spend to much time on winding the yarn on the roll. Not enough on the project. You don't show your stitches good enough either.
