I share the latest startup I've been working on called astralfans. playlist: #benawad #astralfans ---- Follow me online: voidpet.com/be... #benawad
To me, the quizzes as a core component sound a bit forced. Can't imagine a lot of creators want a platform for only a small percentage of their audience without having a monetary incentive. Then again, I have no idea what the Jake Pauls of the world actually want
I agree, influencers care about money not the contact with the fans especially in the beauty/lifestyle community. What seperates the 'true fans' from the rest is the size of the wallet. I also can't come up with the reason why creators should choose this app over some generic quizz app/website. What is the long-term benefit of using this app rather than one time thing?
The creators want the stans (the ones that can ace the quiz) in one place. Because they will be the ones that actually buy the stuff they sell. Maybe they can use Astralfans to target them directly with "special" offers, which will just be over priced junk for me and you.
@@mikiyasayele3538 Well quiz answers will get leaked the first day and if they want to sell their stuff they can do it in instagram to a much much bigger audience.
I am not famous or anything, but I feel like this wouldn't appeal to me as a creator because it is basically plucking out all the weird "superfans" that know all about you when I would want to connect with the normal people who know a "normal" amount about me.
First I thought he was going say we have comment under the video which is good, and I was about to write 4, suddenly he said 3. For a moment I become "writeless"(not in dictionary 😊).
Not a fan on the name, "fans" joined the list of words you shouldn't append in the end of your app, especially if it has the same number of syllables as OF
i think the one thing you're kinda missing is that these influencers don't interact with their fans on places such as discord not because they don't want to interact with lots of people, but because they don't have time or even desire to talk to fans at all.
Ben's idea is a good fit for busy influencers then. The influencer's PR team can come up with stupid quiz questions, then rewards like a Tiktok-length video: "Hey! Thanks for being a part of my Brommunity! btw this Hello was brought to you by Skillshare" from the influencer.
@@techsavannah The point I was making is the gamification would limit the user base to a small group of users making things like monetizing the app hard among other things.
Same. But still I think it has potential as a way for creators to connect with their fans. Maybe not through quizzes, but certainly there will be some better ways of letting people enter a channel. I think the real value in this idea is a platform specially dedicated for creators to connect with fans, since discord is (apparently) not doing a good job at that
Just my 2 cents: The app sounds reasonable, but I don't really see why a creator would want to use this as an entry barrier opposed to something like Patreon It seems like the quiz questions would realistically want to be tailored towards the creator in question, so that leads to the though of who will create these quizzes? A creator can't just reuse the same quiz questions over and over as the answers for the questions will inevitably get posted online, so this means new questions will need to be made for every quiz. Who will be responsible for creating these questions? That responsibly will end up falling on the creator themselves, as they will be the only ones who are able to come up with these tailored questions, and I just can't see creators putting in the time to come up with new questions say every month
Even if they manage to create new questions every month someone could just post all the answers somewhere and boom for that month you don't have the entry barrier anymore One solution would be to have random questions given to the "contestants", but then again... it doesn't sound good idk
@@WolfrostWasTaken That would be true. In my scenario though, I was also thinking that this quiz would only take place once a month, that the questions are purely single use
I’m pretty sure from my experience with several startups, the name is a bad choice. Name is too long and too hard to spell. Just imagine a creator saying “Sub to my astralfans” it just already sounds bad … Anyways good luck, idea itself sounds ok 👍
I think creators would want all of their users to be a part of the community, rather than a small percentage. I think it'll be nice if you ask a few creators what they'd prefer and then go ahead
I guess I don’t agree with that… I think creators would want their true and valuable fans to be part of the community. Their “default” communities (on RUclips, IG etc) already have a lot of toxic people and trolls, if they refer people to another platform, they would want only the best members there. In other words, a clean community
I agree. Ben didn't mention consulting any creator so I assume he probably didn't. The whole premise of this app is based on a hunch that content creators 1. have time to create weekly (?), long quizzes and 2. want a super exclusive fan base that might or might not be as financially generous as the existing one on Patreon.
Design looks like a contemporary youth-focused app. It’s fine if it wasn’t your cup of tea, that’s what revisions and an iterative process is for, but publicly trashing your designer is beyond unprofessional.
I think the app will fail, not for any technical reasons, just the fact that the co-founder uses language like 'lets circle back on this conversation'. Hyper cringe. Take her 'how to talk business' books away!
And now you made the first mistake. Revealing something without actually having anything deployed yet. Watch how either OF or any other big-tech steals this :) You never learn Ben, you either reveal the final product first or you just keep quiet until you do.
Actually, now anyone can just steal this, they even have a design to follow. Heck, I feel like I could also give it a try but using Flutter. Anyways, hope this time its not the case but if it happens, you should really consider the way you create these.
@0x88 Actually he said in the previous video that this was serious? And I can correctly recall that even tho DogeHouse started as a meme project, he was pouring a lot of time into making it a serious one. So yeah, he makes videos, but he needs to learn when should he reveal an idea. This one even goes as far as also revealing the entire design, so not only everyone has access to the idea but also how it might be looking.
So it’s a quiz app kind of like kahoot where you can join a quiz and see how many people voted for each answer too. Also just my honest opinion, I don’t get why a creator like any of the ones you listed would use this
I am gonna be honest, the quiz would be a no brainer later on once someone collect enough problems that they are no longer relevant, unless you bother enough to tweak the quizzes every so often
prediction: your app is going to be riddled with tech and gaming people, since that's your audience here, and that is going to bring in tech and gaming influencers, basically you're making another discord, congratulations!
IIRC, discord struggles to maintain profitability because it offers most of its services for free. That's one of the main reasons they sought to get acquired by Microsoft (but now going for IPO).

Looks great! My one concern is that it already takes a dedicated fan to be nice enough to take a quiz. I feel like most creators wouldn’t want to turn around and reject fans like that from their community.
From a dev's perspective, i'm sure the designer has seen the success of social media apps like Instagram and the familiarity the users have with the colors on Instagram, plus you've said its also targeted towards celebrity like people, who are obviously judged (by a good part) on how many followers they have on Instagram...so personally, the design was okay... maybe ask the designer to add the "Astro floating theme" that you tend to like... ---ochieng'

Honestly, the UI design isn't that bad! Perhaps it's a bit too playful here and there (mainly the homepage) but heavily styled, vibrant, colorful might be spot on here. It may not be generically appealing but that's not necessarily what you want; it has to fit your core target audience. Look at the first versions of Snapchat for example; their target demographic might go into a similar direction. Color and gradients wherever you look. When designing this, keep in mind that per your own definition, you, your co-founder, and probably most people consuming your content are not inside your core target demographic. Also, I really like your content! :)
Sounded like you were saying "actual fans" at first, which would have made total sense since its only the most true fans who get to join, but then realized it was astral fans, and that's where you lost me.
A "White & some hue of green" color scheme might be well suited for the type of audience you are willing to have. Also, while keeping light mode the default, do add an option to switch to dark mode.
Margins too small, vibrant colors shuold have been used in CTAs etc only otherwise they're useless and as Ben said lack of hierarchy while reading. Also it reminded me of a design I made myself, which speaks volumes for how generic it is. Just slap some rounded rectangles and you're done lol
@@blackwhattack that's pretty subjective opinion biased to your own preferences. Your points are not objective and precise. You talk about margins, have you seen Instagram app? If you properly choose UI team, you should trust them and their expertise. And yeah, I'am dev too 😎
@@blackwhattack This design is far from being generic. Stop humiliating people that have been working on this. Do you have own opinion? Or just copy paste what Ben says? I would love to see how non-generic UI you would make 😂
This is a discord clone targeted at another marked. This is not like an idea that every audio based company had like the clubhouse clone. So there is less chance it will be copied soon.
I like the idea that you're going for, I do think that discord is only really relevant in gaming or tech communities, but I don't know if this is the way to go about community building for non-tech creators. You said it yourself, most of the creators who create things that "don't look at the screen all day" don't use discord because of it's gaming/tech nature, but we have to think back on that for a second. Why do gaming or tech communities even use discord? Because discord is a computer application, and gamers and tech members are usually on their computer, so discord is right there, already a part of their core ecosystem. So, in order to find a way to compete with community building, you're going to have to look at other ways communities are built, which is through social media. Even the app itself looks similar to a social media feed once you get accepted into a creator's group. At that point, you're just competing with Twitter or Instagram, which are free, massive, and don't require some sort of hack-y "exclusionary" buffer. In fact, that's WHY Twitter and Instagram are the main go-to points for non-tech creators, because it's an existing platform and it provides all the interaction that the creator needs, with things like muted words, blocking, etc. And if a creator is looking for something more exclusive for a smaller group of dedicated fans, why would they make the pass to that a game (a community they're not even part of anyways) and not some sort of monetary system? Fanhouse is a startup that already does that, and Onlyfans also already does that (although its mostly for sexual content). Speaking of, remove the "fans". It sounds a lot like OnlyFans and will mix up your brand. All in all, I like that you're making something for non-gaming creators, because that's definitely a niche that needs to be filled, but the problem is that it already kind of is by Twitter and Instagram, so in order to compete with that, you're going to need something radically different that doesn't bet it's unique selling point on a hacky quiz game and isn't basically just watered down Twitter/Reddit once you enter the community. Who knows though, I could be wrong, and I'd like to be, but I just don't see this taking off without some major, major changes.
The thing with designers, is you need to work very close with them. It can be seriously hard to create something unique that fits your vision. It is super easy to accidentally create something generic.

As the client he has the right to say what he doesn't like in the final work, but as the dev, telling UI team to refactor this and that is stupid and disrespectful to UI designers. If you properly choose UI team, you should trust them and their expertise.
And yeah, I'am dev too 😎
@@blackwhattack This design is far from being generic. Stop humiliating people that have been working on this. Do you have own opinion? Or just copy paste what Ben says? I would love to see how non-generic UI you would make 😂
Power tie.
It does not go unnoticed.
I had a freaking heart attack when he nearly chose number 3.
welp, now you've got a competitor!
Did you just get your idea stolen, and then followed that up with revealing your next idea? 🙈
Was wondering the very same thing. He should have waited till the very last minute right before app launch
This is a discord clone targeted at another marked. This is not like an idea that every audio based company had like the clubhouse clone. So there is less chance it will be copied soon.
@@ivoderuever How is it a discord clone? its the furthest thing away from discord i can think of
@@soupnoodlesNot a 1:1. He said it himself that it is kind off a Discord clone.

The Chad Doge house vs. the virgin astralfans.
tbh man I can't see myself using this app, the mere idea behind it feels like a fever dream.
What's the backend stack?
its the postgres whateveryoucallit beast with nodejs typescript postgres apollo graphql 💪
anybody else get chills when he said REVENGE?
so discord for the normies
The eloquence of your speech and the words you choose to use hurt my head. In a good way.
Say less ben, Discord will again steal your idea
This one is going 'to the moon'! really nice concept!
not first
This project gon blow uuuuup!!!!
This still somehow feels like a joke that im going to be waiting a long time for the punchline
Oh man, Ben's got the tie on.
He wasn't kidding when he said, "my co-founder can help with business side of things such as going golfing" 👀
The thing with designers, is you need to work very close with them. It can be seriously hard to create something unique that fits your vision. It is super easy to accidentally create something generic.
Drop the “fans” and just keep Astral…you’re welcome! Love your content

Another idea going straight to the moooon!
"REVENGE" Ben awad is getting evil😂
