@@pipmoore2006 yes I definitely agree, the "Capri" is so identikit to EVERY other SUV crossover. Ford didn't need another SUV, they'd even bastardized the Mustang with the Mach E. The Capri should have been an EV performance coupe with the echoing lines of the original. Why is it, that these manufacturers automatically make EVs SUV type vehicles? Are the designers imaginations really that stagnant? Ford have REALLY fumbled the ball with the Mach E & Capri. I have a Hyundai Ioniq 5, great car. Takes me back, my sister Fran (who passed away in 2018 of cancer, I was incredibly close to her) her first car when she passed her test was a yellow Renault 5 TL. She absolutely loved it (as did I) we went everywhere in that car! We nicknamed him (yes him) the Yellow Peril, but actually he never put a wheel wrong! Great little car. Seeing the new R5 in yellow, really puts a smile on my face, and I'd have loved to see what Fran would think. She was heartbroken when she had to scrap the Yellow Peril, and despite becoming a General Practitioner, and owning a Jaguar XF, she ALWAYS had a soft spot for her Renault 5, as it represented getting freedom as her first car. I was thrilled when Renault chose yellow as the concept colour, it was almost like Yellow Peril had been resurrected, and to me, it's a great colour for the R5. When I showed my other sister, Mo, the concept R5 in yellow, she immediately agreed it was the new Yellow Peril! I'm sure Fran would love it, she'd have probably bought one!

I am sorry for your loss. It must be nice to share these thoughts about the 5 and your sister with Mo. Thinking of the days life was open and full of promise. Glad to hear your sister had a good life and meant something for others as a GP. Ok. I am rambling on, thinking of my own youth, but life went by in a blink of the eye. I used to have a R4. Equal fun and fond memories.
Anyway. Your story reminded of the loss of the love of my life.

@@ai-d2121 thank you so much for your kind words. I absolutely adored my sister Fran, we were so close we were like twins! We loved the same films, music etc. The Yellow Peril was everything to her (and me), Seeing the new R5 in yellow brought every great memory back. Going shopping, cinema, concerts, parties, that little car enabled freedom. Fran broke down in tears when Yellow Peril went, driving away on a low loader with the cheeky face looking at us. Don't be sorry for rambling, it's lovely to share stories. The R4 and R5, such cheeky scamps of cars! There was just that something about them, and thank god Renault have re-introduced them. I still think of my first car too, I had an Alfa Romeo Alfasud Ti Cloverleaf in black, I bought in an auction not long after I passed my test. I didn't go out to get an Alfa, but it came up and I got it at an absolutely great price, and, considering Alfas got a bad reputation, mine was absolutely superb! Dad brought a mechanic friend along with us, and even he said it was an excellent car, which was very well maintained, and had also had a rust prevention treatment by the previous owner. I had it for years. I never once had a major issue, just little stuff. Our drive looked good back then, Mum and Dad's Audi 100 (bought in a fleet auction) in blue, Fran's Renault 5 in yellow and my Alfasud in black. We weren't rich or anything, our cars weren't bought new, but we kept them nice, tidy and clean, it looked kind of cool, very european. I drive a nice car now, an Hyundai Ioniq 5, but I have fond memories of my Alfasud, Alfa needs to reintroduce it as an EV. I loved my car like Fran loved Yellow Peril, I remember calling my car Alf. My god, one car can bring back family memories! My parents and Fran are no longer here, but one little car was the spark....just shows.

    1) you can fix a short gear ratio for improved acceleration at low speed
    2) range falls staggeringly quickly with increased speed. At 130 km/h you get one fourth of the range you get at 90, sheer aerodynamics

Easily one of the most endearing electric car designs to date; not to mention it actually does the original Renault 5 justice and the interior is fantastic. Proof that electric car designs inside and out don't have to be boring. A lot of Fords electric dashes just look plain in comparison with the Ipad glued in the middle effect. It's a real pity too as the latest 5th Gen Mondeo that's exclusive to the Chinese Market and Middle East actually has a surprisingly decent dash; certainly better than the Mach-E's and the so called Capri's. I know the 5th Gen mondeo isn't really electric but still no reason Ford couldn't do something more inspiring with their electric dash designs. Don't know why Ford didn't give those cars that sort of Dash. I admit that the Mach-E is actually not a bad looking car externally but a nicer dash wouldn't have went amiss or actually bringing the 5th Gen Mondeo to the UK but of course it probably wouldn't sell well enough.

I was really excited about this car, right up to the point where you said it's an EV. If Renault had equipped it with a 1.2 litre petrol engine, ditched the tech, and sold it for £15k, it would fly out the door. As it is, it'll be like every other EV on the market; a sales disaster. Shame, because it looks absolutely fantastic.

At least it's future proof, we're on the verge of big EV price slashes in 2025/2026 and price parity followed with EVs being cheaper after that. The reality is that petrol cars won't sell anymore in just a few years. If Renault had used a car/platform made for petrol and EV, they would have created a pretty shit car that is bad in both cases and would be impossible to sell in a very near future. So no, Renault is right on this one, probably one of the company who understood the best what the car market will be like in just a few years.

As a child of the 80s, the Renault five was everywhere in my hometown. Unfortunately, at €30,000 you won't see this car anywhere.
I don't know what car manufacturer in Europe is doing wrong.
But what happened to the bread and butter of cars. For €10-15,000 new price? That used to be a Polo R5 and a Fiat UNO.
We Europeans can't do that anymore, we don't want to do that anymore.

Unfortunately a 14,000€ car in 2007 would cost 22,000€ today just because of inflation, add to that that electric tech is a bit more expensive than gas, this car makes some sense around 28k, which is hopefully what it'll be at in 2-3 years once they've fulfilled the initial wave of pre-orders and gotten to higher manufacturing efficiency

As someone who shares a Zoe and a Twingo with my parents, I am ecstatic about the new Cinq and am saving up for it. I just hope that I can just turn off all of those computerized 'safety features'. Adaptive ruise control and parking sensors are one thing and make driving safely easier without taking away autonomy from the driver. But if they force lane assists, black boxes and AI into the base model, they lost me as a potential customer. On the roads I travel those would be a hindrance more often than a boon.
I know there are people that see airbags and seatbelts as an insult to their driving skills, but those are for when something outside of your control happens... like a runaway truck or something.

And in non sport models there should be no need for bolstered seats that make ingress/egress a little less easy. And a bright, cheerful environment inside would be nice. So in this case, the original Twingo was a smarter design that considered how people live and drive as well as looked forward rather than backward in car design. Don't even get started on the price of entry.
