Tip for exotics: use the "Select Exotic" option instead of the "Pin Item" option. Pin item is for a specific, unique roll. Select exotic will build around multiple copies of an exotic you have for the best fit.
If you've been using DIM for as long as I have, consider tossing them a couple of bucks so that they can continue to provide this amazing tool for all of us: opencollective.com/dim. Also, they pulled a fast one on me and Assume Masterwork isn't there anymore. It's be replaced by a button that says what kind of materials you're willing to spend. Putting this up to Ascendant Shard will simulate the same effect. I'm back from Mr. Fruit's wedding and from my charity stream shenanigans, had to take a couple of days to ramp back up into work mode and writing scripts and all that, plus take a day to actually recover from the insane allergies from when I was away.
Thank you so much for making this. I really haven’t cared about armor stat rolls recently because it’s a little overwhelming and I don’t know what to look for, but I’m someone that likes to have maximum potential when playing. I can’t wait to watch this when I get home.
A very helpful guide, I think a few things some people might helpful are intellect isn't super mandatory if your focus is gm nightfalls. Your team should spawn a ton of orbs from supers if you coordinate well. Also your leg element should always be solar if it can be helped since it gives Recuperation and its healing on orb pickup can be life saving.
@@never3nder 9 times out of 10 yeah, Better Already can basically forces your regen to start and can be cancelled by any damage. Recuperation is a flat chunk of health given.
15:30 While increasing resilience can have an impact on one-shots, the cost is really prohibitive. You can get a far higher damage reduction by using resist mods, at a far lower cost.
Don’t run tier 10 intellect, even tier 9 is kind of unjustifiable. Tier 10 is a 4 second difference from tier 9 (3:52-3:48) while tier 8-9 is an 8 second difference
tip: instead of pinning an exotic, “select exotic” this will help u make a build around the exotic if you have multiple versions of the exotic. with the way you did it, it’ll only account for that SPECIFIC Wormgod Cuirass, which isn’t a bit deal if you only have 1 wormgod. but many times i have multiple of the same exotic so different stat distributions.
Also using Select mods is super useful if looking to do a GM CWL or warmind cell build set as it will ensure the set includes gear which may require elemental affinity.
You also shouldn't set a "max" for anything. For example, you're aiming to hit 100 recovery and are fine with running 4 mobility, so you set mobility to 4 as your max. There could be an armor piece you have with extremely high recovery, which would allow you to hit 100, but it also has just enough mobility to put you over your 4 mobility max. If there are no other combinations of armor pieces that will work with your distributions, you can unintentionally block DIM from considering that armor piece because it would push your build over the max mobility that you set, despite the fact it would grant you the 100 recovery you want. You'd never even see that you could have 100 recovery because the armor piece DIM needs is blocked from use because it would display an armor combination with mobility higher than 4. So, the stats that don't matter to you, drag to the bottom and do not adjust it. Focus on the stats that you care about, and once you see the numbers you want, "lock them" by setting those numbers as the min and max on those specific stats. Now you can squeeze more life out of your remaining stats by forcing DIM to maintain the "locked stats" and showing you the highest remaining options for the others.
Thanks to this video, I now know you can view items already in a DIM Loadout to delete excess Armor that I have in my Vault. DIM has been a blessing over the years.
I had absolutely no idea DIM did this. Holy shit that makes armor builds so much nicer lol Side note, you doing a little "guide" of this is so much nicer to follow. Listening to you actually makes it sound relatable and way easier to understand
Always glad to see videos like these from datto. Similar to the solo dungeon guides in my mind that just help people get into the more hardcore esque side of destiny. Also brimstone is v cute
FYI for anyone wanting to use a specific exotic but you have multiple of the same exotic. You can also just lock the exotic perk. On the left sidebar select "select exotic" it will give you a list of all the exotics for that class and you just pick whichever one you want.
I haven't messed around with the Loadout Optimizer yet because it seemed so overwhelming and I only have one armor set per character anyway, but an extremely helpful feature that I found in DIM was the Custom Total found in the Settings page. You can select as many of each stat as you want for each class individually (e.g. Rec, Int, Dis for my Warlock), and when you click on the armor piece it will add up the Custom Total for all the stats you chose. It also shows up when you compare multiple armor pieces together. Very helpful for deciding if you want to keep an armor piece at a quick glance.
You can get good high stat roll armor pieces by running the corrupted expunge missions 3 times a week and 3rd tier armor focusing 3 times each week. I’m talking 65+ base stats.
This is definitely the best DIM tutorial I've seen. DIM is super powerful but also super confusing, so this really helped. Now imma clear my vault for the first time in like 12 months.
I’m gonna be honest, I didn’t really care about my stats, only going for high power. After the 12 man glitch and realizing that rising storm and the Monte Carlo get my super up ridiculously fast, I started to put some armor mods to increase strength. Strength is T10, and everything else is T5. (51-56) I personally think it’s nice 👍
This was super helpful! I'd love to see it get it's own series on your channel. Like maybe you could make videos on specific builds like the ones you used as examples (titan top tree sentinel overshield build) I am new to the titan so I love watching build vids for them.
Maaaaaaan watching this when I have housework to do was bad. Now all I want to do is putz with armor sets for an hour, but I need to be productive 🤣 Thank you so much for making this! I'm trying to get my armor and inventory a lot more organized going in to Witch Queen, and this is going to help a TON. Trying to figure out what to do to match a singe or use my class for a shield in match game is a serious stressor at this point and I'm so ready to make it EASY to play with a build instead of trying to optimize stats manually every single time.
**FOR PEOPLE NEW TO LOADOUT OPTIMIZER AND/OR WANT TO USE AN EXOTIC ARMOR PIECE:** Instead of pinning the item (5:36), there is a button right above it called "Select Exotic". Use that instead. While these options are very similar, the key difference is that you're only using a specific piece of armor when you pin an item. When you are selecting an exotic, you are saying that you want to use that exotic in general, not one specific piece. This is nice because if you are like me and you are holding on to 5 different Dragon's Shadow chest pieces, for example, DIM is going to select whichever dupe fits your build the best according to the stats you want. (I find pinning items work best when you have an armor piece, exotic or legendary, that you specifically REQUIRE being in your build, regardless of how stats break down or whatever else. Or if you have a masterworked armor piece that you want to utilize. Selecting an exotic is nice because you're broadening your build combinations if you have many dupes of an exotic.)

While you can pin a specific exotic armor piece if you want to use that exact one, you can also instead click the "Select exotic" button and pick a specific exotic power you're looking for. If you do that, the optimizer will take into account all copies of that exotic you have.
I’ve really tried my best to optimize for a Tank/Grenadier build. With fully Masterworked armor, I’ve got tier 10 resilience, tier 8 recovery and discipline with a mix up on the other stats like tier 5 strength due to some Arc perks in the chest. I’ve also tried to pair this with any Demolitionist perks on Grenade Launchers and Shotguns to fit more towards my Titan Commander build which frees up a wide range of Heavies I can use for most situations. High resilience in PVE is very much a waste it does basically nothing. Your better off running mods that reduce damage
