I have the datasheet for that 32650 cell and it has maximum discharge rating of 6.5A. The IF30 pulls 37A on turbo and is damaging the cell, confirmed by myself and another reviewer. I use a Molicel P42A with two orings around each end to center the cell on the springs. With the P42A the turbo holds at max output, while the 32650 drops off really fast if you check the lux. Using the bundled 32650 cell is a bit scary IMO, since you never know the long term risks by pushing a cell well and truly over its safety limit.
Well, the documentation Sofirn provided says it stronger than 6.5A for I see LifePO4 cells at that rate and this does not match weight of any I see on the market. Do you have these white papers or a link on this battery? Thanks for watching!
@@spr00sem00se Well I seen the white papers and it's not a good thing to run more than 3k lumens with that cell. I contacted Sofirn for an easy fix to this by getting a 21700 cell adapter for customers to be able to buy or they provide free. I will use the cell provided but not on the higher light outputs.
Nice review as always Charles. I bought it based on your demonstration. Thank you. This torch quickly became a favorite. I only wish it had a pocket/belt clip. I don't see why they couldn't have added one. Now I'm forced to use somewhat of a universal holster I have that fits this light. I'm not crazy about holsters but it works!
Great review as always! This light is fantastic for the price. Definitely the favourite of all my Sofirns. Small, comfortable dual purpose light. Sofirn has hit a home run with this torch! Thanks again, Charles
I bought the lumintop gt3 a couple of days ago. The Sofirn IF30 was my second option. I like the versatility of this light but I think I prefer the use of the 18650 in the GT3. greetings charles
I'd like to thank you for distinguishing style from design, a lot of utubers seem to conflate the 2, I really like this flashlight, it's a shame I don't have a use for it, my SP35 is plenty for me. A very good review, thanks.
Thanks for the review. I wish it wasn't a FET driver. Sofirn would have done better to put a buck driver, or at least a linear driver into the light. It would have been much more useful had it had one, the thermal throttling is harsh. The other problem is the cell, which just compounds the FET issue, as I don't think it can provide enough power to both channels on higher modes. They should have gone with the 3x18650/21700 solution.... It's a decent entry level budget Marauder Mini with incredible potential, but they left so much on the floor with the really bad driver + battery combo.
Hello Charles, would you recommend a good high CRI flashlight that I can use for video shoots?. I was hoping for a fairly long runtime of at least 1,500 - 2000 lumens. Thank you for your reviews and your time.
I was also thinking of emitter swapping my MF01X to 4500K Nichia leds. But that's a lot of LEDs to swap. Not sure if that's even possible. Or maybe it would be sufficient if I just swapped 50% of them. I'm trying to get skin tones to look good. and without enough red/orange in the light source, people tend to look pretty washed out on camera.
That flood light takes all the power, the throwing led couldn't even get half as far as it did when the flood light was off.. that sofirn battery just can't put out the amps needed.. I end up getting one of these and when I put a Samsung 50s or a molicel 21700 in it with rubber bands it gets way way brighter
@@CharlesBridgTec A 21700 battery will have too much room around in the IF30 tube, losing eventually contact. What did you use to fix that? Are there adapters 21700 ---> 32650?
Hi Charles, thanks for this review - please could you comment on the weight of this flashlight; is it light? (I have an Astrolux MF01 which is very heavy, am interested to know how it compares) Thx again and best wishes
The Astrolux MF01 are a lot heavier than the IF30. If you take out three batteries of your MF01 you will have almost the weight of the IF30. Thanks for watching!
Everybodu got bad reviews but this one is slow simple and informational
