Angelina is nine years old here. At the beginning of the video, she is writing her own arrangement and is holding a glass with the picture of Steve Jay Hawkins who is the original singer and song writer of this piece. There is another video of her at the same age in which she is rehearsing a song called 'A Portrait of a Man' by the same songwriter. The musicians call her 'the boss' because she is in total control. Angelina is a child prodigy who won Norway's Got Talent in 2014 at age 7. She grew up listening to old jazz and blues artists like Billy Holiday, Edda James & Frank Sinatra. Because of her low register and knowledge of jazz there are videos of her singing Elvis Presley, Lionel Richie, Whitney Houston, Amy Whitehouse, Adele etc. Angelina has written original songs called 7th Heaven and Million Miles. She signed a record deal at age 14 with Republic Records. She is seventeen now and can be seen on Tik Tok.
Screaming Jay Hawkins wrote and sung this song for the first time in 1956. Shock rock, shock blues, whatever, he was the originator. Homage is paid to him in the video as his portrait is seen in the candle holder. Angelina makes her own arrangements and is known by all around her as "The Boss." She wears no shoes because when she was six years old, she came across a child her age on the streets with no shoes. She gave her her own shoes and vowed to never wear shoes while singing on stage until all children had shoes to wear. She has raised millions for charities. She is a gift to the world. Here is the story why Angelina always performs barefoot.
At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan.
The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East.
The reason she has no shoes on when she is singing is that she met a poor little girl in Asia without proper shoes - or non at all, I think. She felt sorry for this girl and gave her her shoes. The poor girl thanked saying she would pray for her. This barefoot performance is in honor of, and in memory and empathy with the other girl. Says a lot of what kind of person Angelina is. Her grandmother - half iranian-japaneese, an artist and poet, wanted her to sing jazz, from she was little, also listening much to it, created her inspiration for that kind of music. Her father is Sweedish - but Angelina is born and raised in Oslo, Norway - also living for some time in USA, which I think she is doing now, because of her fame. From an other Norwegian. Angelina wrote an incredibly emotional song called "Million Miles" in memory of her beloved grandfather who had just passed away (at that time). She was 13/14 years old. She recorded it later as her first single for her new label, Republic Records.
Do a reaction to the black and white live studio version. It is one of three companion videos. The others are the actual official Republic video music release and a lyrics version. I highly recommend doing a reaction to the lyrics version second. It is the same recording as the official version but has graphics done by her grandmother, a noteworthy Iranian artist. With these videos, she has produced a quite stunning beginning of her career with Republic. Also, the pianist in the live studio video is a very high up Republic executive.
Angelina commented that when she was in the studio doing the song she cried throughout the session. You can hear and see the pain she feels for her loss when you watch the live studio set. She said she wanted the song to be for anyone that had such a loss. With consideration to that background to her song, you will get as emotional as she was when she recorded it. She has this magical vocal power that draws you into this other dimension.
She has always put her soul and emotions into her works. She arranges most all her music, as she has been doing since she began performing over the past ten plus years.

I got a chuckle out of your reaction because you have no idea what you are watching, she arranged and instructed the musicians how she wanted to perform the song, and at 9 years old, that makes her a first order prodigy like Mozart, now at 16 and signed with Republic Records, which at some time acquired Motown and other jazz labels, she is well on her way to becoming the Superstar she decided she wanted to be at 6 years old, which just so happens to be the same time she encountered a girl her own age with no shoes and gave her the shoes off her own feet, which is why she performs without shoes, the other girl said she would pray for Angelina’s success in becoming a superstar, and Angelina encouraged the girl not to give up on her dream of becoming a doctor.
Yes, Angelina is a rare and unusual person, not only because of her age and huge talent. By the way, Angelina has helped to raise millions for children’s charities by her performances, including performing at the Nobel prize ceremony for Malala who was one of the youngest recipients for her activism for education of young girls.

A lot of people think Nina's version of this song was the original, but it was actually written by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who had a hit with his recording of it. Angelina's version is based on that original recording. You should probably check out her own arrangement of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody that she performed on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020, just before her 14th birthday. It has a more heartbreaking version of this magic in it.

Maybe try It's A Man's World, or Bohemian Rhapsody next. There are over 160 covers to choose from, so pick one you like and go with it. Just FYI .... This song is a screaming J Hawkins original ( it was covered by many artists including Nina Simone. His picture is on the candle she is holding. That is how Angelina came up with this arrangement. Yes, you heard correctly, at this age of 9, she was already doing her own arranging. In the beginning a gentlemen was holding up a piece of paper and smiling, that is because Angelina had made some changes to the arrangement, She is known as the Boss whenever she works with musicians. This girl is not just an amazing singer, she is the an amazing musician. Incredible musical awareness, sensitivity and style. I have said this before and I will say it again, I have never in my life heard a nine year old do anything like this. it is almost scary to think what she will be able to do at 25. Other kids her age are singing along to Disney songs, or mimicking pop artists. This Phenom is re -arranging jazz standards covered by jazz legends 50 + years ago, like they where kids songs. Prodigy is truly the only word for this amazing artist. She is now 16 and absolutely stunning to listen to. The growth in 7 years is unbelievable. If you would like to follow this young artist there are well over a hundred videos she has released. some of my favorites are: all of her originals, I'm still holding out for you, my funny valentine ( the 2022 version) Bohemian Rhapsody, I'm a fool yo want you (studio version), all though she sang that Billie Holiday classic A Capella at the age of 7 at the Norway's got talent competition. At 10 her voice was pure magic, at 13 her maturity was amazing, now, at 16, it's perfection, it's scary to think what it will be like at 30. It's hard to advise which song to listen to, she has more than 150 published, and the last you listen, it will always seem the best. My advice, search among all her versions for the original author you like, she has covered innumerable classics, she also has several originals.

"I'll Be There " is one of my favorites. Eight year old Angelina was quite sick at this charity event but refused to follow advice to not sing that night. She gave it her all and made up for her diminished voice with pure emotion and determination. She has a huge heart and proved that "She'll Be There" if she can help others.

On her candle is "Screaming Jay Hawkins" the writer of the song. Check him out---his voice is BIG. You can hear where Angelina brought her tone to the "screaming" parts. He died in 2000 at age 79 and Angelina was born in 2006. Like all those old folks on the other side decided to send back jazz, oddly in a white body with a voice that blesses people. And you are correct about her own spin---that paper was last minute notations for the band. She is known to often take a song and change it to fit her vision. And as young as she is here, I still would recommend going back to all 4 of her NGT performances (Gloomy Sunday, I'm A Fool To Want You, Bang Bang & Summertime). It is just my personal opinion but I believe she is the top female vocalist on the planet right now and she has the greatest versatility, they call her the Barefoot Princess and the girl with 1000 voices she can sound completely different from one song to another but always beautiful. You should check into the story behind why she always appears professionally barefooted, she has also raised over $20 million for children’s charities. One Angelina was six years old she came across another young child who was barefoot on the streets with a scale to weigh people for a few cents trying to survive and take care of her self and her siblings, this experience had A profound effect on Angelina and she has vowed never to wear shoes until all children have shoes to wear andthe little girl said she would pray for Angelina. Angelina has stayed loyal to that commitment all these years never appears with shoes on officially. She’s not only beautiful but a beautiful human being.

To truly appreciate how much her talent has grown I recommend you review her Bohemian Rhapsody performance at age 13 on AGT next. THEN YOU MUST!!!! DO Angelina's 1st original release "Million Miles" from Republic Records where she got signed at age 14. Not only did she wright this song at 14 years old, but it was in memory of her Grandfather who had just died. it will just melt your heart. Also her latest release is called 7th Heaven, which she also wrote, and it's very jazzy which shows she's sticking to her roots and developing her own style.
I believe we must support this talented girls present and budding career and promote not only what she's done but to promote and introduce her original work as well. She is the definition of an ARTIST!

What she was writing was her wishes to the song, as in, the new arrangement for the song and instrument tweaks. You'll notice she is keeping track with her pen. She knows exactly what she is doing and the men in there, they called her the boss. AJ is well beyond her age and its evenmore so apparent as she is 16 currently and once she hits 24 she will literaly own the world with her voice and charm and beauty. Luckily is has a heart and a family just as powerful to equally balance her.
