The boarding on the IL-86 was...odd. Instead of boarding straight to the main deck you enter these lower vestibules. There were plans for a "high capacity" version with seats in these lower areas, too but I guess none were built. An odd bird, for sure.
The reply above mine is correct. For some of the airfields in the Soviet Union with little or no infrastructure, it was expected that as well as being able to board from a remote stand, people would actually take their luggage on board with them and hand it over at the desk on the lower level, rather than having ground services do it. I don't think it ever really happened so they used the lower level for passengers to hand in their coats and hand luggage.
Wow!!! I wondered if there were any aircraft that had an elevator on board! Do you know if there are any other manufacturers of aircraft besides Ilyushin that make/made aircraft with an elevator on board? Are there 2 elevators next to each other? Does the aircraft have 2 elevators total? Does the elevator have no internal door (car door) or is there a car door, but the elevator will run with it open? Is the elevator designed to be used in flight, or only when the aircraft is on the ground, or only when the aircraft is stationary? Were the elevators used by members of the public, or only the crew? Where was this video filmed? Is this at a museum, or other location that the public might be able to visit?
elevators were used to deliver food from the kitchen on the lower deck to the cabin. it's not a museum, and it's not open for public to visit. it's in Moscow airport, planes just stand there for learning purposes.
@upanddownadventures the L-1011 Tristar has an elevator but it was mainly used for transporting food from the galley below the passenger areas. If you think about it it was a stroke of genius to put the galley below the passengers and use the space where it could have been for more seats.
Hi! It's in the civil aviation institute facility, near the SVO airport (55.985603, 37.442365). Bad for us, that it's not allowed for visitors. Check out the Monino aviation museum, there's a lot of interesting planes.
I love how there's literally an elevator inside the plane! Air Travel peaked in the 1970s!
Il-86, probably the biggest commuter jet ever build. ☺️
what is commuter ?
@@ivanforero3554 not long range, so like flights up to 5 hrs
And loudest too
@@damarhanifsusanto9440 no actually. IL-62 is louder
This is Russia’s equivalent to the Boeing 777-9
Had an honor to fly in il 86 ..more than once.
Came after sam's video
🤚
Same
Wow love seeing the elevator in use. Not even seen any videos of the L1011 elevator in use or the Boeing 747 cart elevator.
Amazing design! I have never seen a lift for people in an aircraft in my life.
WALLINGTON the l1011 had one also
@@leecloth8460 I will go check it out. Thanks😊
@@wallingtonlin9208 i used this lift to visit the kitchen where they prrepaired the chickens...
@@eberhardprei8783 It must have been an interesting experience
@@wallingtonlin9208 After the invitation to use this lift on flight from Wladivostok-Moscou my travel group "missed" me...
The most claustrophobic elevator in the world
Would suck to get stuck
Just seeing it made me anxious.
No way I could ever get on that.

Yup, to facilitate operation in airfields without a lot of supporting ground equipment. it was a very self-reliant plane.

The elevators are probably mainly designed for the galley carts
They are, but if you had a chance to ride one, would you not?)
Mit Lift:-) Eines der besten Flieger seiner Zeit!
Gratulacje powodzenia
No one's gonna talk about the barking dog
You could have shown the ladder. Does it have a connection with the passengers or only with the flight deck?
I got to fly in one of these from Tashkent to Moscow it was a very long trip.

I think a few larger airliners have had elevators. Don't quote me, but the 747, DC-10, L1011 Tristar, and probably a few others.

✈️🛫
It is unique from other type of aircraft
Basically aircraft that have lower deck galleys have lifts like these for the food carts.
Is this an air museum? Can u pls specify the location? Can tourists visit this place?
Hi! It's located in the civil aviation institute facility, near by the SVO airport in Moscow (55.985603, 37.442365)
Damn I didn't know this planes had lifts, it's so odd...
They bringing them back now lol
Have a model of this exact person plane, S7 Airlines IL-86 registered RA-89105

typical soviet invertor sound
I absolutely loved it being a child and flying this bird!
The lifts are soo tiny
They are not for people, they are for food trolleys
A thin squeeze indeed, that's what happens when You ride an elevator originally intended for food and beverage carts.
Still working
Wonder of Soviet era! Come back USSR!
no. USSR bad
fucking terrifying
NO INNER DOORE
those are the best, my old apartment complex had one of those
Loud
He didn't find any elevators in this video
