Recently reset stats on nova sorc for the synergy and am very impressed. Have like 3 different gear setups I use for different situations. Magic find, rune hunt, and key find. Can also take on Diablo clone slap on natures peace, stormshield, crown of ages, and hes toast.
Great guide man, one thing that I saw was you had 43 into energy shield. It maxes out at 40 points so you could use 3 points somewhere else. Other than that though great video.

Obsession in an archon staff with staff mods to lightning mastery and nova is incredible in this build and you also don't need to deal with getting stuck in block animation. Obsession, griffons, 3 tal rasha pieces, double stone of jordan, frostburn gloves and silkweaves or crafted caster boots. The only really difficult piece of gear to aquire is the zod rune and the base for the obsession runeword. This setup will get you the 105% FCR breakpoint, lots of MF, good resistances and a really solid mana pool with some health.
I know I'm way late here, but "the only really difficult piece of gear to acquire is the zod rune and the base" is the understatement of the century.
I'm rocking 3 nova/ 3 lighting mastery/ with 2 to lighting. With ormus robes on I'm at 7.8k nova,4100 mana, 75 all res with zero points into health. I fking love it. I don't use tals tho. Sojs, Maras, silk, arch, ormus or skin(for 200 fcr). 6 skillers with fhr(overkill). Perfect Anni, perfect torch. Griff with a7fhr/7str/11fire res/ 3mana after each kill jewel, frost burns. And a CTA rune staff with 5energy shield after boo

Haven't made a sorce since my 1.9 nova sorc with the occy SoJs and bugged tal armor and stuff haha, might recreate this. Obsession in a nice base will be amazing for a build like this. They should address how lightning builds always trump cold and fire though.
I just rolled a butt load of amulets yesterday and rolled a 2 to light 17 fcr amulet with some mana all res and mf + regen mana so omg finally hit that 200 fcr breakpoint! (I'm at 207 now ;P) I'll roll some more hoping for a 2/20 sorc so I can use an soj instead of my fcr rings.
Love this build. I, however, have not yet acquired the high runes needed. Going to be a long, slow (yet always entertaining journey), to find the loot. Raw!
frost nova is dope if you get the death's fathom. and you can farm the new spots cuz no cold res in there. but reg nova is probably better. just kinda fun to play it tho
Ya I'm gonna have to give this a shot now. Had one on plugy back in the day worked well but damn that mana just got sucked away all the time.
Great video on this. I made my ES Nova Sorc around a Phoenix shield. Zero potting needed. FHR really not needed at all on this build as health is never getting touched significantly. Always best to max telekinesis first, then max ES.

@@robinlemvik3246 With Phoenix you get a Redemption Aura, which constantly replenishes both your mana and your health from the corpses you leave on the ground as you're killing. Never need to use a potion which is a QoL improvement.

@@robinlemvik3246 One point to warmth, then max out Nova, Static Field, lightning mastery, then max out telekinesis, then all remaining points to ES. You want 20 hardbpoints into telekinesis.

I disagree. Static is such a powerfully ability especially now since its a synergy and it needs to be maxed out, so why not taking advantage of the low mana cost and 30-35 yard range. Nova carries a very expensive mana cost and since this is an ES build, Mana = Life. Throughout your video your mana was quite low after each encounter.
I'm dealing with this now building the character wanted to see how it would be to start going straight into the build and you just burn mana even with gear and your survivability is abysmal

Yeah I was wondering that also..... max static, nova, telekinesis, ES, and lightning mastery. Use infinity and have a prayer merc with cure and insight. Potions are pretty irrelevant. Maybe teleporting into a firing squad of archers especially if they have might or fanaticism aura, that's about the only time I have to use Potions.

I have my hybrid ice lightning sorcerss: frozen orbs and lightning chain but I was thinking of changing lightning chain with nova lightning so as to have two types of attack .. one hammerdin style paladin and one from distance ... what do you think?i am crazy? xD
I’d like to give this a try but am afraid I’d lose my boss killer. My main is a poison Necro and has a similar style to it but he struggles on some bosses and barely killed Uber Diablo. So my sorc is kind of the boss killer for that gap. Any issues or concerns with that do you think? I saw some comments about Baal. Thanks.
Is it worth putting 1 point into thunderstorm? Seeing as you will have few spare points and soo many to +lightning skills. Or put them in warmth for the bit extra mana regeneration?

Excepting the divisive Oculus, I'm liking the build, especially your comments on keeping high MF with Enigma. The 200% FCR compositions I've seen thus far sacrifice so much MF it's crazy. Can't wait to enjoy Nova in ladder!

For my single player, I use different characters in areas that they specialize at. I have a nova sorc with low MF and godly gear to kill cows and P7 Arcane Sanctuary. I have a blizzard sorc with high MF that just kills Terrorized Andy and Duriel. I have a barb that just does Travincal and Pindle with item-find. I have a paladin that just kills ubers. It is fun to make new characters, but I also like using them in the areas they do well.
How are you able to keep the oculus durability maxed?
I’m running an infinity in hand nova sorc right now.. and trust me it’s much faster than lightning. I won’t change back to lightning. I clear chaos in an 8 player game at least 20-30 seconds faster. The build in this video isn’t quite the optimal build. I’m using infinity in hand, faceted griffons, faceted Vipermagi, etc. I have -85% enemy lightning resistance. It absolutely melts everything. Broken immunes die as fast as normal non immunes. There’s such a speed difference, that I did a re-stat back to my top tier lightning build.. and realized how much slower it was… and changed right back. The only single thing that lightning is better for, is killing Baal faster. That’s it. Every other area in the game, nova has the speed advantage, and the safety advantage. I haven’t even come close to dying inside of a might / fanaticism aura de seis pack. The maxed Eshield, telekinesis, and warmth makes the nova sorc almost invincible.

@@Arturioooo faceted griffons helm, faceted vipermagi armor, infinity scythe in hand, sandstorm trek boots, frostburn gloves, 20% fcr crafted amulet, 1 soj, 1 10% fcr ring. A few of these items are top tier items, and I have 8 small charms with 20 life & 17 mana on each. 9 lightning skillers with 40+ life. You’ll want to have max poison resist, but the rest don’t matter. Faster hit recover doesn’t matter either. With 95% es absorb, you won’t be getting put into hit recovery, and you won’t take damage to life from lightning, fire, or cold. Those 3 resists don’t matter.

@@cjdig86 what was yout thought process behind 50/50 Vitality/Energy? Wouldn't pumping Energy to the limit benefit Insight and Warmth more? Is it because of the 75% ES Absorb? If so anyway to pump it to max at the expense of some warmth points etc?

I'm using a ormus with +3 to nova and +15 to lightning skills and a eschutas and idk why but my mama and health get just wrecked and I'm not understanding why.:(
Can you try running infinity in hand in scythe and insight on Merc? No need for all that strength then
I agree with the sentiments of having more magic find over maxing out survivability. Unless you’re playing hardcore or pvping, no real reason to worry that much about it at the sacrifice of efficient mfing.
Efficient mfing is not being killed. After about 300%, there’s diminishing returns from stacking more mf. I’d take the faster and higher damage build at 250% over a slow build with 500%.
So is infinity needed 100%? Or with the sunder charm is enough?

is this viable in hardcore with 594hp ?
Is this viable WITHOUT top-end gear? I.e. no Infinity and no Enigma? What about something like a Crescent Moon (or even a Wizardspike?) in the main hand and having your merc use an Insight for the mana regen? And then use something like a Vipermagi as your chest piece? If I'm playing primarily on bnet solo (players 1), that should still be more than enough damage, right?
Maybe a better worded way of asking this is: Can I start the ladder with this build, or does it require the top-end gear you just showed in order to be viable?
youd probably want to start as a blizz sorc or orb hydra then transition to tthis once u can get infinity
It'll feel alright on P1 but you'll definitely want to stick to areas with lower base hp monsters and the bossing will be mediocre.
Crescent moon gives even more damage than this, the safty version of this actually uses viper and shako instead of enigma and griffins. Not having infinity will be the only thing that will hurt if you can't have it. Probably better to shoot a few statics before nova without it.
Without infinity this build is not even close to comparable to any frost build. It's fairly gear dependent to do well and if you're rocking budget gear you will just be frustrated with kill speed. In a numbers scenario 1000 nova on a monster with 75 res is 250 damage, 1000 nova with 25 res (75 - 50 for conviction) is 750 damage. Therefore infinity will triple your damage, mind you this is a crude example.
@@demenciuk Conviction is -85, non-immunes top out like at 50 in most cases and many have between 0-40 (Pre Monster Affixes that affect resists). With mediocre gear (Day 1 Gear) you'll probably be pushing between 1700-2000 average damage before resistances. It'll feel weak against bosses but it'll do keyruns ok, arcane sanctuary, pits (if you skip archers), pits of archeron (definitely need to abuse static on the bigger targets). Definitely not the ideal starter though.

I tried a respec to this and couldn't even kill nm mephisto. The nova did like nothing to him. Had nova maxed and 10 or so in static, so I guess this isn't good unless you have a ton of +skills or super high level

im liking the frost nova build and you can farm some of the new 85 areas, but it requires deaths fathom and nightwings or it's not strong enough to even mess with
Agreed. I have been running frost nova since before the patch dropped. Got a my first Ormus drop with 3 to frost nova so i decided to use the token and try it out. Traded a few items for Nightwing and Death's Fathom. Was not disappointed even at about 200% MF. There is a bit more room for some MF SC if i sacrifice cold GC, or some res SC, but I don't have them yet anyway. I also like to keep at the 105 FCR breakpoint for cold which is slightly constricting my gear choices. This build clears my (solo Bnet) game run in about 20-25 min going Cows, Arcane(key), Meph, Chaos, Nilathek(key), Tunnels.
@@zacharyr6886 I did some testing on SP and if you load up on Skillers, you can wear tanky gear like glads bane and stormshield. I like it more with survivability. But if you're going ES, I'm not sure if that even matters
@@bens6423 I didnt choose ES (respec pre patch 2.4) I'm not quite sure how to work ES in but i know i have some wriggle room there with my skills. I think the hardest problem is getting a bigger mana pool with the gear I have. For what I run i feel that I am not missing out on survivablitiy too much. I mostly wish i had more MF because I've hit a pretty big dry spell for drops.

Should have waited, see the CTA towards the end when you go thru the Vid. Some might consider a Memory Staff, swap out for the CTA. Throw in the Cude
It's a popular option to use memory. I just don't see the point. I slaughter P8 chaos and cows no problem without it. It would "boost" the energy shield but sends very unnecessary. Maybe hardcore, do it for every last bit of safety. Softcore, na.
I would switch out enigma for coh and have 2 Soj and mara. Mana would be the same considering you have one bk

I usually shoot for 300 % MF on most characters . Obviously some builds won't have anything near that and still have good killing power .

Maybe but you’d have to do some math. Since it is lightning based, you got a better chance of breaking the immunes
I had a light facet in a wizpike on light sorc changed it for an ist and seems like was a good choice over the facet. Kill speed seems same and magic find more noticeably better. Use wizpike for key hunting tho when chaos and cow I use crescent moon.
Anybody on xbox series S having Grafik issues since patch? My in game grafiks looks like wasched and Pixeled in performance mode and in grafiks mode the whole screen is vibrating.

is Nova ES sorc viable with budget gear or as starting sorc ?
I've never done a full nova playthrough. But for example, speed runners often use nova when running a sorc for quite a while early on. Also if you play in a full party, they will live you with your max static. It's a great peice for an 8 man team.
Not sure about the ES variant. I think I'd rather go life and invest the points in a hybrid build. Nova as a Hybrid with another element (e.g. Orb) is excellent for levelling. As a beginner Farmer, it works in certain spots on P1, but other variants are probably more efficient. Higher difficulties, I don't know but we are talking starter gear here. Nova is great for farming Keys (especially the Countess and Arcane). It's also decently capable of killing Andy and Meph with Static. However, Blizzard or even Hydra are probably better variants if you want to focus on Boss runs.
TC85 farming without Infinity is not great. The only TC85 area without lightning immunes is one of the new red portals in Act 5. That being said, Nova is still pretty good at farming the pit. Just have to skip the lightning immune Archers.
Bottom Line: you can start with a Nova build, but ES might not be the best way to go about it in the beginning.
Why didn't you static diablo first bro? But ya bro I switched my light sorc with all perfect gear to nova/es and man it's nuts.
Why not self infi with prayer merc with insight since you already have griffon? Playing that kind of maxed out ES shield all you need to worry about is poison as other elements are absorbed. So thats where prayer merc comes in, and him having insight - he heals both of your vital pools, health and mana at the same time. This makes this sorc nearly unkillable with way more damage and potential than going with occulus and spirit.

Static goes really well with lower level gear, such a fun build, best countess running character.
Using crescent moon weapon but i'll concur that the occy is a good choice too.
IMO: Use Chains if you aren't trying for the 200 FCR breakpoint over Enigma. Use Vipermagi if you are going for the 200 FCR breakpoint.
Why? With Enigma you got +strenght so you dont need to use so many points to wear spirit. Then you can put it in mana instead.
Is it not better to static 2-3 times before nova?
I mention it in the video. Im doing so much nova damage that it's not even worth using static most of the time.

Viable yes, good not really. If you don't have infinity/griffon's/skillers/all the % mana for ES then you aren't going to outperform even a basic budget blizz sorc.

Tried this out. There are a few major holes. Poison. Baal. Blood Mana curse. And when ES goes out. Risk of dying was pretty high.
It was fun and did lots of dmg. Even good in party. But too risky for me unless you can get 4-5k mana maybe.
Try a 2/15 ammy, 10 fcr ring, and Plague runeword in main hand. Solves all your problems. Your welcome

@@smalps yea and i'd pair it with enigma, that +14 life after each kill is not a joke especially if you are cursed with Blood Mana. However then your damage is a bit lacking against lightning immunes. But having Plague in a Kris or something cheap dex and str-wise and Enigma is indeed quite nice after a couple hours of testing. Noted especially in Nihlathak runs where there is high monster density usually and you can kill multiple mobs with a few casts. Other possibility is of course evening out mana and ES, but i have to say you are sacrificing quite lot to do baal runs safely but the build absolutely murders everywhere else in the game, the tweaks only required for baal and any area where witches can spawn. Otherwise just run Crescent moon and any armor (tals, enigma, vipermagi, Tmight, etc.) you could also however run a quad faceted armor to get the benefits of wielding a shield but then i'd definitely go the other way, which is self-wield infi and prayer-insight merc. Pretty strong character overall, very mobile and there are lots of options you can try. Very flexible and fun to try different things on. Max block Vita variant is also something to think about. This patch really brings joy since it offers a lot of different possibilities that were not available or so reliable before. Gratz to Blizzard!

You can’t run repetitive stack games (where 7 players are running chaos) and solo Baal run in roughly 2 1/2 to 3 minutes unless you have a full inventory of belt and stash full of rejuvs, and keep the pace going for multiple runs/games at a time.

To all, who is interested in knowing the best NOVA builds out there, after have been spending some time and research, there are the best options, going from top to down:
1) Absolute "top tier" build (-85% lighting resist on enemies with serf-wearing infinity in SCYTHE and insight on Merc, with faceted Griffin and ViperMagi, use Frostburn gloves, 1 SOJ + 1 ring w/ 10% FCR, 2/20 crafted ammy and Sandstorm boots. No FHR or Resist is needed. Only max Poison resist).

2) A "bit" cheaper alternative is: Faceted Eschuta weapon (+dmg), Faceted Griffon, Phoneix Monarch (redemption aura for +mana/life for not potting), 3-set Tal (ammy, armor, belt for +MF and + res), Magefist (for 105 FCR), Boots (Sandstorm, Silkweave or crafted one for mana regen/max mana or Wartraveller if poison is not an issue) and 2 SOJ. 5) I saw with mid-game gear all map clear too with p1 of course: HOTO, Shako, spirit, Chain of Honor, Frustburn, A. mesh, Wartraveller, +1 10% FCR ring, lots of +MF charms (you need mana potting for heavy light-resist areas but doable with only infinity on merc).

General tips:
1) Mercenary: take either Holly Freeze or the one that gives +25 health
2) Skills: max Static Field, NOVA, Lighting Mystery and Telekineses 1st then 2 options (+1 to ES and + warmth remaining skills OR ES Max and Warth +1 only)
3) points: Full mana (156 strength if you use monarch), no vit and no dex
4) 105 FCR, No FHR needed, no cold/lighting/fire resist (due to ES), only poison max as you can
Lite sorc is just faster... cmoon or sorc-held infinity would help, but still
I could see nova/orb or something like that being a solid hybrid for early ladder though
I’m running an infinity in hand nova sorc right now.. and trust me it’s much faster than lightning. I won’t change back to lightning. I clear chaos in an 8 player game at least 20-30 seconds faster. The build in this video isn’t quite the optimal build. I’m using infinity in hand, faceted griffons, faceted Vipermagi, etc. I have -85% enemy lightning resistance. It absolutely melts everything. Broken immunes die as fast as normal non immunes. There’s such a speed difference, that I did a re-stat back to my top tier lightning build.. and realized how much slower it was… and changed right back. The only single thing that lightning is better for, is killing Baal faster. That’s it. Every other area in the game, nova has the speed advantage, and the safety advantage. I haven’t even come close to dying inside of a might / fanaticism aura de seis pack. The maxed Eshield, telekinesis, and warmth makes the nova sorc almost invincible.
@@cjdig86 idk about 20-30s faster, lite sorc can do like 60s chaos as long as none of the seal bosses are unbreakable.

@@Bugeaters yeah I was doing it around 60-70 seconds and now I get it done in about 35-40 seconds max. Since the nova build I’ve killed Diablo within 40 seconds every single time. Maybe 50 seconds if there was one or two unbreakable immunes. I’ve gained roughly 30 seconds in clear speed for chaos consistently. I had a top tier light sorc as well, with -85% enemy lightning resistance. Even that stacked light sorc seems slow compared to this new nova.
@@Bugeaters all of that is in reference to 8 player games. The nova clears chaos almost about as fast as a 1 player game. There’s almost no speed difference. Lightning was a bit bogged down on 8 players compared to this.

Enigma should be split into the stats on one runeword and the teleport on another (with nothing else). There is no reason why such a gamechanging oskill should be on such an already ridiculously strong runeword.
That's the way I would go. People always talk about taking the Teleport away from it. I'd go the other way round: keep the Teleport and the MF but make it an otherwise unremarkable piece of gear. That way you have to make a choice between super mobility and MFing capability but not much else, or choosing something like Chains of Honour or other chest pieces that boost damage/survivability.
You'd need to change the Jah, though, because that has an inherently strong defensive bonus. Maybe use a Zod instead.
I started as a nova sorc with my HC Ladder sorc. Not sure she is going to live too long. Not doing the ES version. ES on HC is too scary.

Why no one is playing chain lightning??? You reach the entire screen and for single monster you use bolt lightning this two in combination is in my opinion much faster. Yes nova is more minimum dmg but chainl. hast more maximum dmg. and when a bunch of monster in front of you i have the experience that chainl. is much faster and way more clearspeed. Iam so wrong???? And a important advantage is you dont have to teleport into mobs you always in front and the change to instant dyeing is much more reduced. Yes even with cap out energyshild and telecenieses you can instant dyeing. And für resistand enemies i use light bolt. cap out i will have more than 25K dmg, even now with nearly 20K dia survieve 2-3 seconds and my FCR is low with 120. So why always NOVA?????
