Living tiny eliminates a huge amount of stress. Everything is close and simple. Cleaning is easier. Owning less things but of higher quality means more thoughtfulness about immediate surroundings. When you get older and start forgetting why you went into one room, the last room is just four feet away. LOL

If you keep your cauli leaves and stalk and cook them in veggie stock with some dried herbs or curry spices then blend you get a gorgeous soup which is lovely and light for the warmer months or add in rice or potato in the winter for a heartier soup, add a little nutritional yeast on top for a lovely cheesy taste.

Meat is expensive so even if you arent vegan or vegetarian, it definitely cuts down on costs to do at least four meals a week that is meatless.

I have an estate sale business so I’ve seen the stress accumulation causes. People just keep buying and sometimes they have boxes of new items unopened. So I’m very conscious of this. I keep very little. I prefer good used items, things that are useful. I re-use and recycle things. I cook, read and spend time outdoors. Simple things make me the happiest.

Two years ago, we went down to one income so I could stay home with our son and our budgeting completely changed. I can no longer buy anything I want, but I find I don’t need much. We cook from scratch, and that makes the days fly by so there is no time for shopping aimlessly and we downsized our home from 4000 sq ft to 1400 sq ft. Some think this is a downgrade, but mentally and emotionally it’s been a major upgrade and I no longer feel in competition with others. Of course at times, buying something new is a necessity, but more often than not I am able to pick up “want” and even need items at thrift stores and estate sales. Kudos to you on slow living as well and for creating hygge in your home.

Being in nature helps so much with your mental health. I too live in the countryside, I’m retired now after 40 years of a pressured working life. I’m also widowed. But I thank the universe every day for the job I loved, the marriage I had, my family and friends , my 2 dogs, and I now have an allotment where I grow my own vegetables and fruit, and I love to sew my own wardrobe. I am now a new subscriber, I think I’ve found a kindred spirit, x x

I live in an old farm cottage on the coast of the Isle of Arran , Scotland. I thought I would share a solution I use regarding the winter heating bills which have become very high. I have an old suitcase which I tuck away under the sofa. Inside it I keep an old duvet which was past it's time of use on a bed . I fold it concertina style. Then I can tuck between it either a hot water bottle or an old vintage ceramic footwarmer made of clay. The duvet fabric keeps the bottle's warmth for hours and hours. Otherwise on really cold days -it will get cold after an hour . I have known it to stay nice and warm for almost 5 or more hours. You can have the case there open with your feet inside the folds . I know how miserable it is if you cannot get your feet to stay warm. Maybe you dont have this issue ...but I am older. Anyway when I do this I am so cosy I even turn my heating off as long as I am dressed in layers with a rug on my lap/ The main point is that my electricity bills were less than expected last winter. Just an idea to help save money.

Cooking from scratch is likely to be cheaper & will certainly be healthier. You usually get more for your money. It depends on what you are cooking & if it’s a one off. You have to take cooking costs into account too. Planning meals. Shopping online & sticking to a budget. Meal prep & freezing surplus veg. Using all of your oven instead of just for one item. I use a food sealer so when I put meats, often divided, into the freezer they last longer & look better.

Cooking basics from scratch and then freezing is simply one of the best ways to save money, even if its just soup for lunches.
However I know it's not easy for everyone with maybe family life or work going on which is why convenience foods have ruled for so long. I started batch cooking first when I was studying and it has stuck ever since, don't get me wrong if I'm in say M&S I will buy something from the chiller to stick in the microwave. I also plan to try and grow veg/herbs this year for the first time. One tip I saw on Twitter was if you buy a basil plant from the supermarket you can actually break it down into quite a few separate plants and repot so you then can have a number of pots to use or share. Great Vlog as always. I always leave yours till last to watch on a Sunday as its just so calming.

Here in the US, we are feeling the pinch of the rising cost of living. Even though we live in a very affordable region, compared with much of the world, it’s still a bit stressful and worrisome at times. Thank you for inspiring others to slow down and look for new ways to cook and make our food budget stretch. Slower living gives us more time for experimentation and creativity. I also love nature. Living in the suburbs, it’s not as lovely as your nature, but I put out bird seed and corn for the deer and squirrels, to encourage them into my backyard. So far, it’s been so fun watching them shyly come around and eat from the food I put out. I have a bird feeder outside my breakfast area in my kitchen, and so many varieties of birds come there and eat while we enjoy our own meals. I love your content, and seeing others’ lives from across the ocean! Blessings, my friend!💜

Just watching all your videos on catch up. I couldn't agree more about the library. I'm lucky enough to be member at 2 as I live on the border of 2 separate council areas. However, if I buy 2nd hand, which isn't often, as I have so many on the go from said libraries, I always try to buy from other websites like World of books because Amazon is an awful company(ethical consumer). Oh and I buy books at charity shops as you say.
I'm really enjoying your content and steps towards a minimal life.

I just love your video and your pup is very blessed precious! I noticed the counter top space in your kitchen...looks like a great place to make a flower basket of cooking herbs. You’ll have it right there, year round, and not cluttery due to the frequency of use.
    Best wishes from Wasilla, Alaska!

Hi Molly, you always inspire me! I also enjoy going to the library and getting lost in between the pages of the books. So many wonderful subjects, how to garden, how to be creative with different hobbies and there's always a great novel to curl up with. I live in Australia and in my local council area, we can borrow books from any library and they'll deliver it to your closest library for collection. What a fantastic free service. I would really encourage people to utilise all free public resources like the art gallery, the museum and local festivals etc. There's so much fun to be had for free. 🦋

We are lucky to have a charity bookshop in our nearest town which I buy from and donate to. Then in our county town a few miles away there is a book depository where you can take up to 3 books a day for free. It was set up to try and save books from being thrown away.

Hey there, watching you from Nova Scotia. Even though I live in a beautiful province, I'm still envious of where you live. Like you, I love to read and the majority of my books are used and I get them from an online store here in Canada. I don't live in a tiny home but in a small A Frame cottage (very old one) overlooking a small lake just outside of my small fishing town. It's heaven. Much of my clothing is 2nd hand as well but I've taken up sewing again. I can't get fabric here being it's such a small town but again, I found an online Canadian fabric store with great prices and great choices. There is so much one can do to save money and with the inflation covering the world right now, I can't stress how important it is to save every penny and to know the difference between a need and a want. Thanks for such a nice video.

Ahh, another beautiful video from you, I really do appreciate your work, I came across your videos a little while ago and was intrigued to watch and when I realised you live in my most favourite place ever I was hooked, we have had numerous holidays in and around Aviemore over the past 30+ years! We have stayed in numerous places...mainly Rothemurchus camp site but also Newtonmore, Kincraig, Dulnairn Bridge and Laggan to name but a few! On one of your other videos I loved watching you go into the local farm shop - the school shop on the Ski road, also Tesco of all places! Haha, knowing we have been in those places numerous times, we have been on tons of walks and explored all the surrounding areas around Aviemore, your walk to the magical Green Loch brought back so many happy memories, what a beautiful RUclips channel you have, thank you for bringing so many happy memories to me with each of your videos, lots of love, Debbie from Sunderland England xxxxx
