Chinese homie reporting in! Yeah... you were right. A Chinese puzzle box is exactly what it sounds like. A sort of puzzle mirror could be made to work with a secret compartment behind it in similar ways to puzzle boxes, but it would no longer be a CHINESE puzzle box. At that point both the chinese and the box are missing, and calling it a Chinese puzzle box just feels like "Ooh it's mysterious, lets call it something foreign!"
If it makes you feel any better, normal people don't see it that way. When something is labeled something like "Chinese puzzle box", it's a shorthand way to describe something. It's close to a thing, so we'll just call it that thing and meet challenges if they happen. In this case, it sounds like someone got trolled into thinking that was what that phrase meant, and some Chinese advisor person is snickering in delight as they count their money.
@@nachgeben “normal people” like ppl who didn’t invent the literal object mentioned by op?? I very much doubt this was a long con prank to make the ppl who made the movie look stupid lol if they had this said advisor, they would presumably be credited and also look super stupid
Her injury hits even worse when you read this: "In a 2016 interview, Hickson noted that she had issues with self-esteem during her upbringing. "I think it's sad that I have to constantly remind myself that I'm beautiful. Everything around us influences our brains to forget. The poster at the bus stop, that Instagram selfie, the ad on TV," she said. "Self-love takes practice."
She successfully sued. Plus, I saw an interview she did about a movie where the director was very conscious of her fears and that his approach greatly helped her, which is good.
Not that it really matters what I think but she _is_ beautiful. Not even only past tense, I think the scar only added a feature to her face, not signficantly change it. I understand getting upset over stupid scars, who doesn't honestly, and one on your face can be traumatizing. But I hope her self esteem did not take a dive and those intrusive thoughts don't win out.
That doesn't make it worse. Im sure 99.98% have insecurities, expect " growing up". Even a 7yr old and a 70yr old has insecurities lol. Are you the type to escalate this with self pity?
I actually said out loud to no one," why'd they make Lovecraft look like a Hapsburg, good lord?" I mean yeah the guy looked like he had a mouthful of bees in his pictures but they gave him Robert Z'Dar's chin ffs
The negligence (on the production's part)/accident (on the actress' part) is a big reason a lot of performers have insurance on specific body parts. Of course, insured or not, she does still have an _excellent_ legal case for loss of future earnings, since it was production's responsibility to ensure the set was safe, _and_ they have no real argument in mitigation because she was following explicit direction, not improv-ing. *(On a related note: check your sliding doors **_today!_** Newer sliding glass doors are tempered, but older ones are not!)*

The fact that the credits didn’t start with “Written by Beth” is a shame, given the closing line. I dunno, just give this character the writers name, for funsies. I’d like to recommend Stoker as a movie to check out. It’s a lil disturbing and a good watch. But that’s the only other movie with Nicole Kidman in it that you should watch.
Oh, great… they did the thing where the young female character gets her period for the first time and is suddenly covered in blood because that’s totally how periods work
@Leah NoLiah Oh, sorry, that’s not what I meant at all! It’s just that a lot of media where periods are depicted (especially horror movies, Carrie for example) have the characters just *suddenly* start bleeding. Like it all starts gushing out at once. It depicts being covered in period blood as more of an instant thing rather than it gradually happening over time. So when the period scene came up I just interpreted it as a “sudden gushing” scenario rather than a “didn’t notice and am now covered in blood” scenario. Thank you for pointing that out, I didn’t realize that could be what was going on!
@@kodachimera639 yeah, me not realizing im on my period even when its soaked througholy through my clothes is a surprisingly common occurrence when you've got a heavy flow, its just bound to happen

H.P. Lovecraft was a huge bigot and rarely left his room because he was scared of everything. The most delusional thing about that dream is that Lovecraft would be at a party with a black man complimenting a woman.
This makes me wonder if it was done on purpose so we know she's back in dreamy dream land. If she idolized him, in her dreams she'd meet him in whatever capacity she wanted...apparently social, not racist and with the chin of a Hapsburg
My favorite HP Lovecraft fact is that he considered air conditioning to be a terrible, dangerous form of reckless science that is going too far, and even wrote a horror story (Cold Air) about it.
Facts she absolutely deserves all of the money made from the movie and more, like dead ass she asked if it was safe, and they're like "ya go for it" then she ends up like that. Like, imagine if your boss was just like, "Hey, sooo we need you to refill the tea containers, and the only place to do it is above the fryers, but don't worry, it's TOTALLY safe..." like, she deserves it after what they did to her unless she tries to go for specific roles in the future. We all know it's gonna be super hard for her to get another acting gig since they scarred her for life.
@@P_steez It's sad that hollywood has such shitty immovable beauty standards because even if you want to be shitty and limiting with it, the scar could have been career defining. Here you have a beautiful young woman which happens to have a scar, you want to make a movie that happens to have a female soldier in a leadership role? Boom done. You want a female soldier boom done. You want a villain because outer ugliness = inner evil (thanks Walt for that one), boom done. She could be the go to leading woman for all sorts of action, spy and thriller movies. Or even better, hollywood could just realize that people of all kinds, good and bad, have different looks and she should be cast in any role she has the chops for.
It's more than just her facial injury.... what he put those girls through shouldn't be accepted in any world.... he is abusive and gross in addition to irresponsible
I will say… the wig falling off of the head, mixed with the character being referred to as He, does make me feel like part of it is the “spooky crossdresser” trope that comes up a lot in the horror genre
I think it is just that man is crazy. to be fair anyone who thinks they are the other sex is nuts but this dude was over the top crazy and kidnapping people
Okay so I haven't scrolled far in the comments but yours was the first to pop up- I've never seen the movie so this is purely based on this video. I took it as a man doing drag because the other guy was obsessed with the doll effect. It felt that essentially he was dressing up the girls and dressing up himself to he safer/more appealing to the big man
@@GravellionDaizeen I did watch the movie and this was also my feeling on the situation. Never crossed my mind they were trans or the wig stuff was comedic. It was a creepy dude obsessed with making himself and his victims into dolls. The wig coming off was a symbolic way to show the way in which he terrorized them was over. (He was knocked down a couple previous times but kept coming back for the girls so when the wig came off it felt like it was now well and truly over.)
@@garrettl8247yeah the dude was crazy as hell that much is clear, but i get why people are wary considering how trans women are so often demonized and stereotyped as deceiving, predatory creeps in media
I mean it doesn't seem relevant at all that he was crossdressing or necessary, it just feels like it's a "crazy man puts women's clothing scary" trope, idk if it's transphobic, but questionable at least

one movie about women getting physically/sexually/mentally abused does not a misogynist make, but when a director/writer has multiple movies centered on women suffering i do get a little itchy, especially when the writer's a man but that's just me lmao

In the film she beats the “ogre” with a typewriter- the same typewriter she was using in the beginning. I do appreciate how they incorporated objects from *her* subconscious world or her reality, to *reality* itself
And it explains why she only has a typewriter in dream land, not because of aesthetics (or, at least not only because of aesthetics, even though it would be tedious as fuck to go back to that for writing a whole ass book when you could be using modern technology) but because they don't have any computers in hell so she can't suspend her disbelief in that direction
My roommate and I looked at each other and just nodded after watching this one. We also kept saying, “She should be IN A HOSPITAL,” until the reveal. The absolute betrayal I felt when they were caught a second time surprised me (in a good way). I’m not mad I watched it.
I'd be willing to bet the production co settled with the actress and the terms of said settlement included 1) keeping the terms sealed and 2) not allow the actress to publicly talk about what came of the lawsuit. Pretty common tactic for companies of all sorts so they don't have to actually admit to any wrongdoing or negligence. It's basically hush money.
I think it's weird that the mom is constantly speaking French and the daughters are not even able to understand her. Like, you were raised by this woman, they should be to understand what she says, even if you don't speak the language
I agree but the thing is my mom spoke Spanish to me sometimes as I grow up and I still didn't understand half the stuff she said but I see what you mean😭😂
My in laws are from Mexico, and while my MiL and her sister who were born in Mexico barely speak English, the sister's sons who were born in the US barely speak Spanish. When you grow up in a monolingual school system and everyone around you except one parent speak only that language, it's easy to lose your birth language out of lack of practice.
@@bubblegum1366 I agree with you. I've met a lot of people like that as well. But I'm not so much talking about them not speaking the language, I meant that they can't understand a word she says. It would be pretty hard to be raised by someone who randomly starts speaking french (speatially when she's mad, apparently) and not learn to understand her. The people that I've met could always understand the parents' mothertongue even if they couldn't speak it at all
I see where you‘re coming from. I guess the reason why it didn‘t bother me that much is because I can relate to that. My mom is Portuguese, but she never taught me to speak it nor understand it. Now I‘m 21 and I still don‘t understand Portuguese, because she didn‘t want me to learn it due to certain reasons. On the flipside, I get it why it‘s weird for some because it shouldn‘t be the case, so I understand why it‘s weird
I knew a girl in high school who was born in Germany and moved to the US when she was a kid. Didn't speak a lick of English at the time. By the time I met her, her accent when speaking English was no different than anyone who'd been born here, and she'd forgotten German almost entirely, only remembering some basic phrases while her parents continued to speak in both English and German. My aunt is a native English speaker, but was a fluent Spanish SL speaker years ago. But after leaving an environment where she would be using that language regularly, she no longer remembers enough to be considered fluent (though I believe she's still on what you'd call the conversational level). You can and will forget a language if you don't actively use it, whether it's your native tongue or a secondary language you picked up later.
the only explanation I could think of for the slowmo shot of the wig coming off is if they were trying to say in a way that they were actually just another one of the bald guy's dolls, dressed up to please him and maintained that role out of self preservation/stockholm syndrome but even then idk
Probably doesn’t help that the film never once explains WHO THESE GUYS ARE! Like I understand that the villains aren’t the main focus of this film, but some kind of clever environmental storytelling could have clued us in as to what’s going on. Hell, put it in Beth’s dream world. Maybe she subconsciously overhears Wighead babbling about their past life, which she then turns into background information in her dream world. Not only would it give us a non-intrusive explanation as to what is going on, it would also make rewatches of the film even more exciting
I wonder if Vera's inconsistent "dream" image can be connected to how long Beth disassociated for. First, it seems like Beth's "dream" lasted longer so maybe her brain had more time to ponder what Vera would look like whereas Beth "dreaming" her mother aging may trigger thoughts of old-age-to-inevitable-expiration pipeline which would bring her too close to her current reality.
That's how I ended up watching Megan Is Missing. So many people on Tiktok and Twitter were saying it was the scariest movie they’ve ever seen. It wasn't terrible, it was just sad, and not scary at all. I guess some people might think it was scary if they had a teenage daughter, because the story was something that really happens. But aside from that it wasn't scary.
It was AFWUL! the acting was horrible and the early teens acted in that movie like they were over 20's, it was so bizzarre. But I do agree with you that the movie wasn't scary at all.
@@Tetrathegod This is a dumb thing to say. Movie recommendations can come from a lot of places. Sometimes I ignore the recommendations, sometimes the recommendations makes me want to watch the movie. I have no idea what “listening to tiktok and twitter” means. I “listened” to people who had seen the movie, and liked it.
@@isadora5106 I know right! Meghan was so much older than her friend, they looked like mother and daughter. It was so distracting, because they were trying to make Meghan sound like a 14 yr old, but she didn't sound young, she sounded like she was mentally disabled. I even googled her to find out how old she was. Iirc, she was 29. The actress who played the best friend was 19.
Crystal Reed is a hidden gem in my opinion. I have my vices... one of them being "Teen Wolf" ... and she was one of my favorites. She plays the smart, distressed, hero really well.
I think a better explanation of why we see adult Vera in Beth's delusion but we don't see an aged version of her mother is NOT because Beth is unable to imagine what her mother would look like in the future since she never got to see her in the future. She's able to imagine herself as an adult, which makes sense why she's able to imagine Vera as an adult also. I think it makes the most sense to assume that Beth actually REFUSED to imagine her mother in any way other than what she remembered her as before her death. The delusion is designed to give Beth comfort, and it makes sense that she'd include a version of her mother that is immune to aging and therefore removed from mortality.
Taylor’s a main character in a pretty decent show on Hulu. The scar fits the character at least in this case. I thought it was part of her character’s story when I first saw her and didn’t even remember she got it from this movie
It almost seems as if the other bad person was the first "doll". I'm just saying this through the lense of the review because I know this would not be a movie I would be able to watch. But through the review it seems like they were the first doll and started helping big guy to find other dolls, so the wig falling off at the end could be symbolic of that. However it just wasn't necessary properly explored in the movie so it could potentially come off as possible transphobia or something more in that realm.
I watched the film. I think there’s zero meaning behind the disabled character and trans character being the bad guy. I had that passing thought as well, but it’s just not even mentioned or pointed out. I think Vera had a moment at the end where she switched from calling “her” to “him” with the wig coming off. There’s zero explanations on anything except why they moved to the house. Everything is up for the viewer to make…Which in turn should make us question why we think her being trans is WHY she’s bad. Not that she just happened to be trans. Same with the disabled guy, however I think they used him just to make it easier for certain scenes. Overall, they never made it seem like she’s bad because of she’s trans. Also, I’m not at the part where he realizes that the “future” is just extreme dissociation and hallucinations of Beth. So I feel like it’s important to acknowledge that as well. It was genuinely a great reveal. That plot twist is ONLY good when you watch without understanding what’s about to happen. Unfortunately, I don’t know if ANYONE can watch and enjoy the film after watching this review. That plot twist was the most important part of the film. But I’ve gotten off topic. Great movie. This review is one from someone hoping the characters would’ve been smarter, stronger, and well- aware they’re in a horror movie. That’s infuriating. He starts to complain about there’s no rhyme or reason to the pain inflicted on the girls. Well, no shit. They’re killed at the end. We won’t know and the girls won’t know. Sometimes not knowing is the scariest part. Being able to use your imagination to build onto the world was the intention.
@@commanderpinkie7617 That was my take away as well. "There's no DEEPER meaning. They're just villians 'who happen to be XYZ' and we know very very little BECAUSE Beth knows very very little and the movie is told primarily through her." I liked it. Sad about the mom though.
@@commanderpinkie7617 Also at 1:35 you can hear the recommendation to avoid the video and do a "blind" watch. So anyone that spoils the film to themselves shouldn't blame others.

The name Harley Quinn is a play on Harlequin, a stock character from the sixteenth-century Italian physical comedy theater commedia dell'arte. So yeah, Harlequin :)
I actually really enjoyed this movie. I felt like it was an interesting take on trauma-based escapism/disassociation. Similar to what is shown in other depictions like the Black Phone and The Kid Behind the Door, you never really know what horrors some of these kids went through behind closed doors.
Are we going to ignore that Beth might be hallucinating the end? She did say that she makes stories to the ambulance dude at the end, whike looking at the camera creepily.
I was surprised by the accusations of misogyny just because after watching it totally blind I was 100% sure it was directed by a woman until I looked it up. I'm a csa survivor, and the movie just felt super personal? Like it felt accurate, but not so much in the literal actions on screen but more in the emotions and how it effected the girls. My immediate thought watching it was that this was made by someone who knows exactly what this is like, and didn't know otherwise until I looked up the movie after watching it.
The fact that Beth wasnt help Vera in her adult dream is so spot on, becuz she had mentally checked out from reality meaning she gave up trying to fight n went lalaland, if she were fighting for Vera in her mind, she wldnt have had checked out. 🙂
Actually baiting the killers that you apparently escaped the house through the window is pretty clever, while the baddies go out in the woods to look for you, you can actually find a way to escape using the resources in the house. I've never seen a horror movie do that kind of thing before.
I really loved this movie!! I liked the twists, the actors did a really good job of playing the traumatized, tormented roles I had no idea the director also directed martyrs, that movie really disturbed me
Typewriter broke the window when thrown, However when seeing the mother's ghost at the end, the window was fine... makes you wonder how much BAMBOOOOOOOOZLIN is truly in the resolution of the film. EDIT: or just a continuity error in a film that shouldn't have continuity errors
I remember the whole thing when the movie got delayed over the accident with the actress. It was a whole thing, we were thinking "dude, this girl's career is over, how could they let that happen?". I'm honestly happy to know that she is ok, fully recovered and in a tv show right now, but that had to be a very traumatic experience for her.
I wondered what is Crystal Reed (Beth) doing these days. She really was a great cast for the adult Beth! Good to see her crying acting game is still good. Thank you for the vid ❤

4:00 sounds like something a sibling just says to piss off or freak out their sibling and that she didn't even read the newspaper she found lmao. Like when your big brother tells a ghost story and is like "in fact, the room he died in looked exactly like this room, with that little window over there, that's the window where he saw.... the face!" Like it's so melodramatic, IRL if someone saw that paper they'd just hand it over, not explain what it says in a foreboding "trying to creep out your sibling" tone.

I heard from another place that the mother pointing to the typewriter not have been the happy ending we thought it was, because the typewriter is outside on the ground, and in an earlier scene we saw how it got there, one of the girls threw it while defending themselves and it got launched out a window. Only problem is, that window broke, and that was the same window we see the mother pointing through at the end which is perfectly intact. All this to say that the implication is that the police rescue itself was also a fantasy and they just never made it out of that situation but its purposefully left vague so you could either interpret it as being litterally they just die and never make it out or that they'll always keep parts of this night with them and parts of it will always kinda haunt them in how they are left unanswered, like how was the typewriter on the ground outside while the window is also still intact when that should be impossible given the events we saw. Now I am gonna say I am bassically just quoting another dude's review when I say this and haven't actually watched for myself so take this all with a grain of salt.

A Harlequin is a Character often appearing in Stage-Plays. (Bastardised Explaination) It's basically a Clown. That's what Harley's name is based on. Harlequin is *not* a name you'd give to your Child.

Here’s what dawned on me to make me feel it’s a masterpiece. Spoiler for the entire plot ahead: Everything after the title card is her novel. Not as an adult, but a teenager. That’s why it’s so over the top, dreamy, immature and full of tropes. It’s all from the imagination of a high school horror fanatic. It’s a totally different experience with that understanding.
Even if that’s the case, I don’t think that qualifies it as a masterpiece. It’s the same as ending a story with “it was all a dream” and disregarding any negative or inconsistent qualities because of that. Imo there isn’t enough evidence that points to the entire film being a novel she’s written as a teenager. There would probably be more nods to that theory if the author intended it to be canon.

Yeah, I watched Motherland: Fort Salem and liked Taylor's performance a lot. Her accident totally coulda been avoided in this production. While she did sue the production company and get surgery and stuff to make the scar less noticable, she still hides that part of her face in a lot of her pictures and has lost work because of it. Which is really unfortunate given that she's done a good job with all the roles she's gotten so far.
13:13 Crystal Reed is a great actress! She was really great on Teen Wolf as Allison Argent and I wish she would get more roles that she can show her acting ability and get recognition for it.
I don't know if it's because it might sound better in French (the subtitles would still be awkward), but holy hell, people in this movie don't talk like real people. I don't recall people talking like this in The Tall Man (but I've forgotten a lot of that movie).

I hope she knows that… My ex girlfriend had a pretty severe burn scar on her face neck and chest from dropping boiling water on herself as a small kid and she felt like shit about it… but it never bothered me even a little. Eventually she owned it and she’s doing great now! Scars don’t make you ugly, they just prove that you’re strong Neto survive some shit!
18:20 You tripped my Pink Floyd alarm by saying "Vera" and "Run Like Hell" in the same sentence. This movie is an allegory for "The Wall," perhaps? Nah... I don't think so. But it was a funny coincidence for me. Enjoying the video so far, GG! Thank you for another film review for a movie I'd never heard of (I'm not much for scary movies or social media).
8:30 I don’t know about other people, but I bite the ends of my glasses as a way to focus. Like if I’m working on a paper and I’m thinking of how to word something, I’ll bite on them so my body is doing a mindless task so my brain can focus.
I have to admit that this movie had me a little excited when Lovecraft was mentioned at the beginning since I was hoping it would have Lovecraftian undertones at some point, but they just namedrop him and don't really do much with it which I thought was a huge missed opportunity. The jumpscares were some of the worst I've ever seen, and that scene with grown up Beth and her mom drunkenly whispering borderline romantic shit to her ear was so irritating and out of place that I don't know what to make out of it all. I don't enjoy anything I've seen from this director, I think he tries too hard to seem deep. Good review as always, though.
Mista GG, all I can say is, thank You, my best friend got diagnosed with stage 3 Blood Cancer a week ago, You've kept me and Her cheered up and positive, we always watch Your videos together, be it on discord calls or in real life meetups in her house, I've taken care of her when her parents are working or at school, I'm in constant communication with Jer and Her mom and I've told Her about how You keep her cheered up and out of the fact She has an expiration date now, She told me to comment a thank You from Her, and so here I am, Just, thank You.
Yeah, this is one of those weird movies where I don't know if it's an actually good film or it's just meh with an interesting twist and solid performances. I enjoyed the first watch, but would never go out of my way to watch it again. In both a positive and negative way it's an enigma.
I think Baddie #2 was dressing as a doll to survive living with Baddie #1. Given the emphasis on Jumbo there being obsessed and violent when not held in check. I think the reveals are the better part of this movie but the badguys should have been fleshed out a lot more instead of just being...whatever they were. Also, idolizing HP Lovecraft lmao omggggg. That should be the controversy right there.
China scary, box scary, mirror scary, therefore mirror is chinese puzzle box.
Sometimes I hate western media so much.

Everything around us influences our brains to forget. The poster at the bus stop, that Instagram selfie, the ad on TV," she said. "Self-love takes practice."

I think the phone call she got that made her visit the house was her sister in real life screaming at her trying to break her out of her delusion.

Ngl... I burst out laughing laughing at the "subtlety"
Edit: I fucking wheezed at the throw pillow
Every video and joke Mista GG makes is hilarious, but the "subtlety" bit almost killed me. Good shit, but I never expect any different.

I also came looking for this comment 😂 listening to it the second time I def heard the name Harlequin
That subtlety joke with the hand trying to give it to gg was perfection.
This has been said before, but if you’re putting a twist into a story, that requires it to lie to the audience, then it isn’t a good twist.
I actually really enjoyed this movie. I felt like it was an interesting take on trauma-based escapism/disassociation. Similar to what is shown in other depictions like the Black Phone and The Kid Behind the Door, you never really know what horrors some of these kids went through behind closed doors.
I miss these movie analysis videos. They're always so good. N this one is enjoyable as always
Are we going to ignore that Beth might be hallucinating the end? She did say that she makes stories to the ambulance dude at the end, whike looking at the camera creepily.
Right! That stuck with me.
I didn’t get why it’s misogynistic either…? That word just gets thrown around like it’s nothing these days
@@fehyndana7725 id say "everyone is too sensitive these days!" is thrown around way more than misogyny or racism or any of those
Because boys get CSA'd too.
@@nana4banana nobody said this here...
The fact that Beth wasnt help Vera in her adult dream is so spot on, becuz she had mentally checked out from reality meaning she gave up trying to fight n went lalaland, if she were fighting for Vera in her mind, she wldnt have had checked out. 🙂
kid goes through one of the most traumatizing and horrific ordeals imaginable.
"so you like to play sports?"
i received an ad for “an interview with god” from pureflix on this video.
it’s a *sign.*
One Topic! I feel blessed to’ve seen you in the wild!
ONE TOPIC????
Actually baiting the killers that you apparently escaped the house through the window is pretty clever, while the baddies go out in the woods to look for you, you can actually find a way to escape using the resources in the house. I've never seen a horror movie do that kind of thing before.
I really loved this movie!! I liked the twists, the actors did a really good job of playing the traumatized, tormented roles
I had no idea the director also directed martyrs, that movie really disturbed me
Typewriter broke the window when thrown, However when seeing the mother's ghost at the end, the window was fine... makes you wonder how much BAMBOOOOOOOOZLIN is truly in the resolution of the film.
EDIT: or just a continuity error in a film that shouldn't have continuity errors
I remember the whole thing when the movie got delayed over the accident with the actress.
It was a whole thing, we were thinking "dude, this girl's career is over, how could they let that happen?".
I'm honestly happy to know that she is ok, fully recovered and in a tv show right now, but that had to be a very traumatic experience for her.
taylor’s an amazing actor and even uses the scar as a character trope in the show ‘deadly class’ !!! she’s gorgeous and awesome
I wondered what is Crystal Reed (Beth) doing these days. She really was a great cast for the adult Beth! Good to see her crying acting game is still good. Thank you for the vid ❤
Hell yeah! Mista GG always has some compelling commentary and jokes for movies but nothing tops his research for some movies (and informative videos ofc). It’s always a pleasure GG!
Thanks for another one to watch and compelling me once again to check out the playlist! Love you brother!
PS: This man is using his green screen more and I’m so down for his subtle green screen moments like Jontron. You can tell he’s getting better with his own style of scripting, jokes and editing too! You can see the essence of TCAP/Predator Chronicles and it’s wonderfully timeless.
Bruh! The subtlety envelope was already hilarious, but when he denied the hand trying to give it to him again had me dying 😂😂😂😂
I swear these writers when writing a rude teen girl hold back on nothing 😒
It's really like they think all teen girls act the way Vera does .
Vera gave me those vibes you get when the character is just mean for the sake of being mean . Nothing else like she's just the most spiteful person
" I know a lot of douchebags, who say more then insults every time they speak" is bars
That casual soggy nickels line just went right ahead and took my day apart lol. How very dare you sir!
I remember watching this movie a few years ago and just thinking about how depressing it was to watch. I completely forgot about it until this video and it feels like a repressed memory like wtf
Watched this after getting out of work and I was in and out of sleep every 15 minutes so I was so lost the entire time I was like whoa wtf is this the same movie
“Puny-wise” definitely deserves a high-five, AT LEAST!
I’m so sorry I’ve been absent lately but I have been sick AND we’ve had a ton of other bullshit happening that’s kept me from properly attending to my fangirl duties. Please forgive my negligence! It shan’t happen again.
Thank you for this spectacular review, GG! You honestly give the best takes on films, and I absolutely love it! Do you ever do watch parties? I think it would be INCREDIBLY AWESOME to watch a movie along with you and the rest of the fans on Twitch, even if it was some crappy public domain piece of shit. There are some gems in the public domain, though: I’d love to see you take on Reefer Madness, especially after a good smoke session!
Thanks again for this excellent review, GG. And now there’s so much content for me to catch up on! I’m so excited to binge, binge, BINGE!!! Love you madly, GG. Keep on being amazing - I know you will! 🖤
The whole "her world was actually a dream in her head" is pretty common in real life. But I guess the critics didn't pay attention to that plot, maybe the idea of torture disgusted them.
Yeah, it seemed like classic disassociation as a coping mechanism.
Movie Critics very often have tunnel vision when watching these types of movies.
As a life long maladaptive day dreamer, I never identified with a movie character more than I did with Beth!
Wow I can't imagine being on set while that accident happened! Glad she is doing better now
08:53 She's saying "Harlequin", as in the classic clown character, not "Harley Quinn".
"Give me the title in the lord of the rings font." - something no horror director should ever say.
I’ve never clicked the like button so fast in my life, I was excited to hear someone talk about this movie. It really scared me , and I tried watching again and still so hard to watch, I thought the ending was very interesting though. I was really sad and horrified to hear about the actresses scars from the movie, she’s gotten more work since then but this is still a lifelong scar😢 I’m not a fan of the director at all
A Harlequin is a Character often appearing in Stage-Plays.
(Bastardised Explaination) It's basically a Clown. That's what Harley's name is based on.
Harlequin is *not* a name you'd give to your Child.
I... I think he gets that and was making a joke about Harley Quinn...
because, you know... Harley Quinn sounds like Harlequin, which is why the DC character is named Harley Quinn (Also because her name is Harleen Quinzel)
Pretty sure you know all that too, but I figured just in case someone else reads this I'd leave it here
🤷♂
Did you watch the whole video? He covers the Harlequin
@@DashingPunkSamurai It was one of those "Heat of the Moment" Comments.
Unless you're a middle class white woman. Then you might name your child Harlequin.
@@Dogasupreme guilty of that a few times myself tbh, pause the video and comment on the fly only for that topic you commented on to be covered later in the video...
Here’s what dawned on me to make me feel it’s a masterpiece. Spoiler for the entire plot ahead:
Everything after the title card is her novel. Not as an adult, but a teenager. That’s why it’s so over the top, dreamy, immature and full of tropes. It’s all from the imagination of a high school horror fanatic. It’s a totally different experience with that understanding.
yeah that could be really interesting
that's a nice take
Agree
That’s an interesting theory but at the same time…. But it’s about as big of a fuck you to the audience as the “it was all a dream” cliche
@@catcactus1234 I agree, the word masterpiece is a little bit strong, haha.
15:22 I almost spat my tea over my screen when a random Paddy McGuinness appeared, I instantly heard Pokémon red battle music & paddy saying No likey, no lighty
Currently watching this again a year like that and the Batman going “Chinese puzzle box” still made me laugh out loud
Damn. the sponsor is smooth as hell, like always lol
13:13 Crystal Reed is a great actress! She was really great on Teen Wolf as Allison Argent and I wish she would get more roles that she can show her acting ability and get recognition for it.
I’ve been going through so many surgeries and health issues, thanks for helping me get through it. Rewatched your entire channel
I don't know if it's because it might sound better in French (the subtitles would still be awkward), but holy hell, people in this movie don't talk like real people. I don't recall people talking like this in The Tall Man (but I've forgotten a lot of that movie).
I've been using the platform for less than a year, but I quickly discovered that it's not the best place to get movie opinions... Let's just say that TikTok is no Letterboxd...
Fucked up that she got hurt, and it’s fucked up that she feels like it makes her less attractive and it’s fucked up that society will keep telling her that it does.
Scar or not, she’s still perfectly beautiful. I hope she knows that…
My ex girlfriend had a pretty severe burn scar on her face neck and chest from dropping boiling water on herself as a small kid and she felt like shit about it… but it never bothered me even a little.
If you line it up the movie syncs perfectly with The Wall (not really but you know...)
8:30 I don’t know about other people, but I bite the ends of my glasses as a way to focus. Like if I’m working on a paper and I’m thinking of how to word something, I’ll bite on them so my body is doing a mindless task so my brain can focus.
“PUNYWISE” 🤣🤣😆😆😆 I had to pause the video for that one omfg I’m dying!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
you totally get a high 5 for the puny wise joke, i loved it lol....i actually forgot i saw this movie until this review lol 🤷🏼♀
I LOVE HOW A CALL OF DUTY AD CAME RIGHT AFTER 8:20 SAME SOUND EFFECTS AND EVERYTHINGGG 😂😂😂
Type writers are heavy as fuck, she did NOT lift that over her head lmao
Yeah, this is one of those weird movies where I don't know if it's an actually good film or it's just meh with an interesting twist and solid performances. I enjoyed the first watch, but would never go out of my way to watch it again. In both a positive and negative way it's an enigma.
I don’t know why but tiktok hypes up the most average horror movies like they are disturbing masterpieces.
Haven't seen the "I am not a film critic" intro in a while... Made me smile to see it again
I missed the movie reviews so bad. Needed this after a terrible week. Thanks GG
In regards to Hickson's lawsuit; from what I can find, the producers plead guilty and paid out $40,000.
