- Justine Dupont and Kirahu Thibaud avoid a collision at Teahupoo on October 6 2021. Both surfers ok, brushed it off and got back out there. More on www.magicsaweed.com Vid by Tim McKenna.
That dude hit the brakes so hard that he ends up going over the falls. Fortunately he braked hard enough to avoid the collision. (and he bounced upward) And fortunately Justine kept her composure the whole time, never flinched.
Booger did a pretty solid job to get out of the way, probably had the best view of her barrel for about 3 seconds
The bodyboarder was going over the falls either way after a drop that late at Chopes....
The easier solution would have been to not drop in in the first place at this already dangerous break!
@@superorangeish A good point indeed.....
Let's see that GoPro footage.
Exactly
Never thought I'd see a drop in at this spot...
Not sure about Chopes, but at shippies paddlers get priority

@@webleeoz What, so a paddler can just drop in when a tow-in is already fully in the barrel?
I am a surfer and must say that tow in takes the last priority. At first sight I thought the body boarder dropped in, but in the comments found out that surfer was towed in.
Whenever there is someone paddling towing should be last priority. In fact, I think tow in sucks. The sound of the engines breaks the magic moment of enjoying the sea.

If the boogie didnt drop in the first place..
i would give props.

Kudos to both surfers, you're legends!~
One is a surfer, and one is a "d!@k dragger. He's also what we call a kook for dropping in on her in the first place. Shoulder hopping dd's are the worst.
Kudos?! That d-bag deserved to eat the reef for dropping in like that.
If people are hearty enough to be out there paddling then keep the skiis/tow-surfers away! When it's too big to paddle tow away. Both were fine so no big whoop.
Let her get paid for one, she can’t paddle
I want to see her helmet cam footage.
To pull that off with A sponge dropping in at THIS SPOT?! NUFF RESPECT!
Lol spongers unite. Props to the guy for avoiding the collision and then getting pitched over the falls.
Gotta let the local boogs that paddle in to waves get theirs…. You can’t be a visitor and tow every good wave of the day and leave nothing for the guys paddling
@@bogerdoger1 yeah, he got his.
@@HuskyCloud9 Still a dangerous stunt for everyone involved
@@superorangeish that he did
Fuk! Body boarder did well to:
A. Paddle into it.
B. Recorrect his natural projection to miss that tow in surfer.
C. Take that beating like a champ👍
Better person than me, would just call him a kook and told him to check before he dropped.in.
Body boarder was a total dick! Did not do well. Should have been kicked off the lineup. We can only hope he took a beating on the reaf.

Can't be towing when there's paddle surfers in the lineup.
100%
Correct. But reality was, this was a tow day with a few sets coming through for paddling. Thats where the danger lay
@@Baking_baked if anyone is paddling no one should be towing
It's not a free for all at the end of the road. It's thoroughly regulated. If you shouldn't be towing, you won't be towing.
@@bi0008 Raimona and the local crew regulate the shit out of things there. More than most breaks. It's likely he ripped into the boogie boarder for taking off and not looking
We need to see that footage.
Right? Where’s the headcam footage?
Yessss
The booger made that wave even more memorable 😀 & obviously an accident for dropping in then beautifully avoided the collision by putting the handbrake on then going into rinse mode.
doubt that was an accident lol
@@MRsurfguru1 heh heh he was probably so in the zone and psyching on taking off that just didn't look but anyway he corrected well.
Paddling is priority on big wave spots like chopes. Jetski shouldn’t have land her on this wave. The mistake comes from her. There are rules over there to avoid accidents like this.
When you are not local and using a jetski instead of paddling you don’t have the priority. That’s all
@@goctaworldbeats yes and i totally agree...hence why I said doubt it was an accident
@@goctaworldbeats didn't know that, makes sense

Jet ski is messing the wave for paddlers. You can see the white water at the beginning
When Wassel got stuffed by a bodyboarder in Tahiti, he made a whiny passive aggressive video wielding a butcherknife.

Did the bodyboarder survive the wipeout
Boog in the vortex! 😲
I don't see it as dropping in if they towed and you can paddle. However I'd never do either out there over 4ft
paddle gets priority
OK so after reading a lot of comments about the rules at Teahupoo, what are the tow in people supposed to do when they are on a wave and then a "local" or anybody who is paddling wants to go for that wave? They've already been on the wave and now they have somebody dropping straight down on them. How do you as a tow in surfer handle this? You're 100% committed and you can't just back door it. What if the tow in surfer is a local? How does that change the dynamic?
Great question
Great question
Great question
The concept is is that if people are paddling in it's NOT big enough to tow and therefore there shouldn't even be jet skis or towers in the water
Well she pulled in off...hold the line!!!
Saw this on her Instagram, she’s admirably chill about it 👌🏻👌🏻
She better be, she aexploiting Tahiti for insta fame. What they call a Haole in Tahiti? Cuz Justine not at home
@@Macnutkauai how do you know it's for fame? Why do you even have an opinion about where she surfs? Chill out
@@Macnutkauai Oh ffs, we are all locals on this planet, and every single one of us evolved from the same tribe in Morocco as far as current knowledge tells us. No one in Tahiti would be surfing modern surfboards, and thus riding Chopes if not for your so called "Haole" bringing such craft into your precious little paradise. The locals at Chopes have never been the pioneers of Chopes, they are just the followers. So grow up and respect your betters ;)
Is it just me, or is it videos about bodyboarders dropping in on surfers all over youtube? I mean, dont bodyboarders look over their shoulders?
.....Damn SPEEDBUMPS..................
Title 'how a bodyboarder got snaked by a noisey oilspill instabot, took an absolute beating then heckled by bogans who like jetskis'
The bodyboarder did the right thing and made a big dive when he saw her in the corner of his eye😯 Very good reaction from both, in the wave and on the media!
The bodyboarder told he didn't saw her and appologies to her right after that. Apparently he was pretty honest as she trusted him when he explained why he did his take off when she was already in the curl, and she accepted his excuses and didn't told negative things about this moment which is what happen when you surf!!(let's be honest)
Both had very great behavior and show that the ocean is vast enough to let the surfers, the bodyboarders, the skimboarders, the bodysurfers, the windsurfers, the wingsurfers and many other water sports to have fun with its waves!!☺️🤙
But i still hate spongers though. LOL. Knee boarders are my least favorite. If you're doing drop knee stance on a boogie board, i can give respect to that. But straight up knee boards..... are lame.
Once over the ledge the bodyboarder had no more control over his situation at all, all was out of his hands
@@Zepster77 it was lucky / fortunate not a major disaster. And great to hear about the apology given, afterward. No harm no foul, i guess. No animosity either. "All's well that ends well" is famous saying.

Did one of his mates dare him to drop in on a stand up?
Did he not see her? Why drop in?
Why?
For everyone who seems confused. Yes he dropped in but never saw her for sure. Never would have done it. But he was in the wrong as he never once looked until it was too late. The real issue is that if its not a tow day, don’t be out there towing. I don’t blame her, but the locals should have ended that well before this point as its clear this is a paddle wave.
SECOND: NOBODY in the water at Chopes is a kook. This is just a fuckup. Shit happens.
Yep, if you’re out there on a day like that (even though it’s clearly paddle conditions) you most likely are skilled at whatever craft you’re using to get into one of those beasts. Pure miscommunication, mistakes happen, and he did everything he could to avoid a take down.
@bakingBaked. "Don't be out there towing." (your words) I disagree there. I do agree with everything else you wrote. (See my other posts if needed. I posted under the comment by AlexAragorn. Look for his comment, which has many replies under it.) UPDATE: just read Aragorn's comment actually. Nuff said. "We can all enjoy the ocean's waves EQUALLY." (sharing the waves) You have no right to tell somebody "you shouldn't be out here." But i do agree with all of the rest of your comment Mr. @bakingBaked.
How did that happen!?
The body boarder was going for the late drop and couldn't get out. I guess a wave like that automatically commits you! Woof, to do or die? Chops said, "to die motherfucker, I'll do!"

Crazy ride for both but seems like if you can paddle in you get priority, or just tow-ins shouldn’t be out in the first place, otherwise people that can afford tow ins will just take all the waves and that’s no fun 🤩. Hard to see if you don't look.
She should have never gone. Paddling is priority to jetski always. All big surf spot rules all over the world.
Hard to see a tow in like 100 meters deep. As others said the booger had priority, however it was a classy bail on his part. If people are paddling the jet skies should have been banned that day.
What an over achiever. Most people are content with one drop in but that guy pulled off two.

Sick footage either way.
Actually, re-watching it, tow ins are the danger out there. I thought the booger was dropping in down the shoulder but he was right in the take off zone. The way that wave bends and drops below sea level it’s easy to see how he missed her. Serious skill from both of these surfers.
