    This video was so helpful! I am starting a new aquarium and bought prime and stability (I admit not really knowing what I was doing) and found this very informative on what they do and how to use them. Thanks so much!!!!

    It does not remove ammonia it binds it to prevent it from causing harm and is only affective for approx 48 hours

      pchadders Prime® converts ammonia into a safe, non-toxic form that is readily removed by the tank’s biofilter.

      @@jayl5505 , if you have enough *Bacteria Count* in your "biofilter" to convert the excess Ammonia rapidly enough.

    Stability has worked for me, but no instruction on how long to leave UV light off, to be effective. UV light kills bacteria right? I have a carbon filter also, does carbon interfere with effectiveness?

    Prime and Stability will work easy for a "fish in" cycle...I was able to cycle a 60 gallon tank in 2.5 weeks with 4 chiclids in it using nothing but these two products and small water changes every other day.

      Josh L As a matter of fact, I'm now cycling a 150 gallon tank... using the same two products...I'm on day 8 now and already got a small reading of nitrates which means I'm almost there.

    Correct me if I’m wrong. I’m doing a fish less cycle on two freshwater tanks. An 8g and 5.6g. I’ve taken a friends sponge filters from a cycled tank and let my biomax and sponge soak all that goodness up. I was always told when you start a new tank you want ammonia to build up in order to support your beneficial bacteria, which will then break it down into nitrites and then nitrates. If I use Prime, aren’t I defeating this cycle?

    • @apaulmcdonough2170
      @apaulmcdonough2170 5 лет назад +2

      No, because the "Ammonia Treatment" dosage is much higher than the Chlorine/Chloramine dosage.
      Plus the Ammonia Bonding only lasts about 2 days.

    So if I’m using a 5 gallon bucket to do my water changes to my 55 gallon tank and I remove 15 gallons of water. Do I treat every 5 gallons I pour back in the tank with Prime?

    So what's everyones opinion on APIs Quick Start? I got a 5 gallon tank that I'm planning on putting in a betta fish. I set it up Monday, it's now Saturday. Every day I've been putting 8 pellets of betta fish food in the aquarium to get the ammonia going to cultivate the bacteria. Yesterday I tested the water with the API test kit and it read .25 for ammonia and it 0 for nitrates and nitrites. after which I added the Quick Start. I tested the water today and the ammonia and nitrite read 0 however the nitrite was kind of 0 kind of not. The color code for 0 is yellow and the next up reading is orange at 5.0, the nitrate was definitely yellow but it had a slight orange tinge to it. Today I also added nearly tripple the fish food. On Tuesday I'm going to the pet store on their filter change day to pick up a used filter cartridge. Am I going in the right direction with this? I'm making this all up as I go along. When should it be ok to add a betta?

    If Prime is an ammonia and nitrite binder/ blocker , remover, what's the nitrate have to eat/ develope? Wouldn't the use of Prime retard the cycle?

      How much is TOO Much?
      If a ridiculous amount - Water Change.
      I use a 1.0ml Medicine Syringe to measure *Prime* because that Syringe is good for up to 10 US Gallons.
      For a larger dose I add the *Prime* to a 3/4 full measuring cup, then that gets poured into the tank.
      I never have Treatment Bottles or Test Bottles and Vials near my tank.

      @jayl5505 6 лет назад

      DZenitram23 use step 1 and 2 right away. There are instructions on each bottle. For step 2 to work you can add a small amount of fish food to decompose and it will be a food source for the bacteria.

    i got a bottle of seachem clarity. But it appeared to be leaking through the seal the bottle neck turned brown along with the inside of the cap. Can I still use this product or should I request a replacement?

    • @kfam984

      I recommend requesting a replacement to avoid risking your tank. It's better to be on the safe side, especially when a product may have been interfered with beforehand.
