I was lucky enough to hear Amy Ray's words and songs a couple of weeks ago in Portland, Oregon. She was inspiring and energizing. My favorite song was her personal story of self-discovery about things that were going on in the South when she was a young girl. Bad thingst that she didn't know about then and has been learning about as an adult.. Her pain at not realizing the crap that was going on back then was balanced by her optimism about the future. I met Amy a few years ago after a gig here in the U.K., she was incredibly generous and humble and authentic and I’ve certainly been inspired by Amy over the years to be braver in my politics and bigger in my activism and just braver in my own walk through life as a gay woman
The only reason why the duo of which she is a part isn't Simon and Garfunkel big is prejudice. 1990s sexism and homophobia. They exceed so many artists who are gazillionaires today and the greats of yesterday
I can't wholly disagree. I'm a conservative male, tradition-bounf, Indigo Girls fan since '89. Huge Simon and Garfunkel. It makes no sense that Amy and Emily aren't recognized for their sheer brilliance...
Down to earth, open minded & willing to actively listen. A true gift to the world Amy Ray.
