  • In this video, Quixel artist Wiktor Öhman shows you how to quickly create an urban street environment using only Megascans assets. Learn how to rapidly lay the groundwork, how to detail it with decals, scatter and vegetation assets and how to completely transform it to a middle eastern theme as well as a wet, night-time scene using some UE4 scripts and the Quixel Mixer.

      Yeah people mostly put likes without even watching it fully just to find it later in the "liked" playlist. This is me, so I guess most of people are the same. Now I watched it till the end and put a dislike because it is misleading and they double lied. Promised to release a tool - didn't. The title promosied to create a city street - created a road.

    It feels like he is working on the Unreal Engine Team because it's been made so professional and and easy to get. It really helps a lot having a tutorial with someone who doesn't just skip word's or forget some things. Keep it up, those are the kinds of tutorials we need more of on RUclips!

      Where's the city tutorial? This guy built 10 meters of road for 20 minutes in the worst way possible (not in BP, not using static mesh instances). Then loads a completely different thing at the end (probably not done by him at all) and everyone is losing their shit...

    Great video. What's the status of that UE4 road blueprint? Also, what version of the engine are you using? When pasting the codes, I have unspecified collection parameters errors.

    It's probably worth mentioning that when you say, 'Hey we built out this epic cyberpunk scene and will cover it in another video' now obligates you to actually cover the entire production of that scene. :P As a user of Megascans, I'd personally love to see it.

    Hi Wiktor, can you please tell me what road texture you are using because the ones i have got from Megascans are really different in colour , plus i like the look of the one in this scene. could you also link a screenshot of your material setup as when i paste in the code into the material editor i am not sure what goes where.     which decal is used on the side of the asphalt ? the straight one? old road decal?
    and will it be possible in a future version of studio to place and edit those decals? like adding liquid etc?

      Its also possible using splines and create the settings yourself in the material blueprint instead anyone wonders.

    Thank you for the lesson! But I still don't understand how to set up the material itself in the decal. The material that is imported from the Bridge, I do not understand how to switch the mode to "Deferred Decal" Whereas with ordinary materials there is no such problem. Please tell me how to do this?

    Did that road building script ever come out yet? Also I'm having issues using your provided asphalt material - it seems to be all there but there aren't any comments so I can't really match up the texture nodes to the textures I downloaded from megascans. Help?

    Hi Wiktor,
    I am so excited to begin using these assets and methods in my own project, but, how would the performance cost look for an open world game i.e. much larger environments constructed almost solely from your high quality Megascans assets.
    Surely I would not be able to keep this level of detail consistent, regardless of the tenacity or pay grade of my content creators! I feel like I would be able to try, but perhaps as a more simple question; is there anything I should keep in mind whilst using a Megascans workflow?

    However, i tried to open the material for the decals and somewhere around line 354 (pretty much that object described starting with line 354) causes Unreal to crash...
    Any chance you could update the link?

    Thanks Wiktor! This is an Amazing work! I have some issue with megascan textures. I have bought several textures from megascan library but it's impossible to fit decals color with asphalt one. I think there ara different texture inside Road Building script. When this script will be avaiable? Let me know. Thanks

    How many draw calls is that ? I would go for masks inside the material or made a plane being instanced with per instance random atlas texture

    Hi Quixel guys, Amazing tutorial as always, I have a little suggestion about material.
    Many people don't have advanced knowledge about material I think that you can add material screenshot it will help so much.

      I know this materials are simple, but in my case I have some doubts in Decal Material on Opacity_blend_mask what texture I put there? What is the material setup? Dbuffer Translucent color, normal? That kind of question. I know that explain about material is not the focus of the tutorial I'm just trying to improve understanding of the video.

    (Can anyone confirm) so decals don’t need to be modified, they can just be dragged and dropped on to landscape or scans as shown in the video? ( working on a basketball game and don’t want to go through photoshop every time I need lines)

    When my character runs over a decal that I've placed on a road in Unreal, it seems to be projecting on to him as well as I can see the colors of the decal sort of undulating over the character. How can I avoid the decal from projecting onto surfaces above the road?
    Also are this many decals for a single road practical in a real time game environment or is this just more realistic for a single rendered shot?

      Go to Character blueprint, select skeletal mesh and turn off "recive decals" in side menu.

      about your second question. I think it always depends on the final result. If your scene/map has enough fps, there is no reason, to not use many decals.
      but as more you use, as more annoying it gets to select them.
      what you can do is, create a new actor blueprint and place some decals inside and use this new blueprint in the world / map. specially for decals that do not need a huge height adjust, its worth it.
