Ahead of their performance in Toronto, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the band's very own Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser to learn more about the record. Dive into the conversation as we discuss phone creatures, why gum isn't allowed in the band, and their pet peeves.

I just always wonder how random and crazy Andrews and Bens conversations are when they are by themselves 😂
I feel like Ben constantly looks at Andrew because he’s is trying to find comfort and solidity while he’s talking. It’s similar to when you present in front of your peers.
I like it too. It is endearing. They’re very awkward guys sometimes.

The interviewer is really good at creating a comfortable environment and asks really good questions without being sterile. She's also very beautiful. Love these guys, great video.

It's _crazy_ how much time Ben spends looking at Andrew. He's _always_ done that. Andrew usually either looks the person in the eye who's talking...or stares off into the distance just thinking and wondering and taking in whatever is being said.
But Ben seems to constantly check in with Andrew on some level. I kinda don't blame him...Andrew is a super attractive _and_ interesting person...kinda hard to not just watch him. But I also think it says a lot about how deep their friendship is. It's actually rather nice to see.

From what I can tell from watching all of their interviews, Ben has to always check with and look at Andrew to see if he is going to troll the interviewer or start like a silly bit or tangent or if he is being straight up serious when addressing a question or person.

@@bryantrulen7570 I'm wondering, too. I feel like both are pretty much mainly in their head/heart, making music and being creative while occasionally bonding together. I can't imagine them being very social or group-oriented, but maybe I'm wrong. First interview I've seen of them
As someone with sensory problems and getting constantly dunked on or made fun of for it by my family, hearing Andrew say he has misophonia and is bothered by some of the same things as me makes me feel 10x better

This was a great interview! It bugs me though when people say the album was weird. I don't understand what is weird about it lol
I believe that "no phone day" Ben was talking about is called "nyepi". It's more than just a "no phone day" is more like a "no electricity day" for religious reason.

God, I wish I had a friendship like that. Someone who understood and operated on my level of 'weirdness'. All my 'friends' are only interested in using my talents and backstabbing, apparently. You both are awesome, and together you create some of the coolest music ever. Thank you so much for your music. If there are any jam sessions you care to publish, I'll love to hear it all.

God I relate so hard when they talk about misophonia. I’m so zen about everything in my environment until someone makes a mouth noise. It’s like every ounce of inner rage I’ve ever had is awakened, and I can not control it well lol.

lol...this was hilarious. About midway through you could tell the interviewer really was kinda into Andrew. Lot's of hair flipping going on.
Then...Andrew seems to take notice...turns his chair toward her. And then she mentions something about talking to Andrew off camera @ 8:13. And then Ben shoots glances at both of them as he realizes oh....I see what's going on.

A musician w misophonia. I’m like that too. I’m pretty particular about sounds in general but the sound of bass through walls makes me really mad and two songs playing at the same time is horrible too. I think might just be normal though cos these sounds really do suck. They just drive me crazy though. I get enraged sometimes. Blahhhh blah blah.
