I got over 200,000 miles on my 99 PreRunner with that same engine. It still has the original water pump and alternator. AC still working too. I think I should swap out my water pump soon before I blow up my baby. I’m original owner too. Love your videos !!!
Yeah, it probably would be good for you to do some cooling system maintenance. If your radiator is original, I'd replace it too along with the both hoses. I'm glad you like what we're doing. Thanks for the comment!
Easily some of the most detailed, enthusiastically explained, and damn near perfect camera angles to show every part of the job. You guys rock! I reference all your videos for new and repeated service on my 2000 3rz reg cab 👌🏼

@@TimmyTheToolman Thank you. I just finished it up today I put a new Aisin water pump and new thermostat and fan clutch in. I put a new Denso radiator in in June which unfortunately got dented up installing the new water pump but no leaks lol. I was trying to be careful like you warned but goofed up. I had to pry the fan clutch off but made sure to put a pad in there for that part. For some reason we took the pad out when we went to pull the pulley off and it was kinda stuck and it busted right into the fins. Seems like everythings working good so far though in the 25 mins I drove it home. The engine only has about 130k on it and transmission was rebuilt so hopefully should be good for a long time. Thanks for the quality video man
@@Aaron-uz8xt Great job getting it done. I wouldn't worry about bent cooling fins. It's not a big deal. I'm glad our video helped you out. You're very welcome!

Going in on my T100. Thank you I needed to see this. Going all new with hoses and pulleys., fan, blade, and fan clutch, all oem and new. Thank you so much.
@@TimmyTheToolman OK friend don’t laugh but I’m a newbie at all this. The only thing I’ve ever done is change the oil so here it goes. I’ve got a new fan a new fan clutch and a new water pump. Good Afternoon guys! I love the videos, always find myself coming here because you guys just know a lot about the 3RZ. I have one in my 97 Land Cruiser Prado and it has an issue that I can't find. Upon a cold start (right in the morning after a night), the engine doesn't idle at 1800, then drop to 800 RPM after warming up. It just sits at 1000, or sometimes it stalls at 400 RPM. When it's warmed up, rest of the day has zero issues. Replaced both coolant temp sensors, new spark plugs, new MAF, cleaned IAC and throttle body, nothing. Thanks for the videos again, been a life saver multiple times!
@@TimmyTheToolmanThanks for the reply! That sounds like a possibility. Ill take it out when cold and test it with a multimeter and see if it moves slow.
@TimmyTheToolman Good Afternoon! Lo and behold, the valve is gunked up with some brown rust looking substance. Maybe time for a new rubber gasket. I wish I could send you a picture because this looks real wierd.
Thanks! Heavily thorough and detailed videos are our goal. Some people hate us for it, but most love that we put the extra effort in. I appreciate your comment. Good luck with your channel.
@TimmyTheToolman Yep, just replaced the thermostat, and it went smoothly. As a side note, Tractor Supply has these (no kidding) Rabbit cage trays that are fantastic for wide area drip coverage. 20 dollars for a heavy duty 2 1/2 foot square with about a 1 1/2 inch lip. Caught every frame drip.

just curious how this job is holding up ...did you guys place the jiggle valve at 12 o'clock position?? just curious a lot of people with V6 say their manual says to point it in the 6 o'clock position but is the 3 rz to be pointed in the 12 o'clock??
@mrgpomona420 I'm guessing you didn't watch the video because we covered the position of the jiggle valve in this video. For the 3RZ engine, the jiggle valve goes at the 12 o'clock position. For the 3.4L 5VZ-FE engine, the jiggle valve goes at the 6 o'clock position. So, those a lot of people were correct.
Sorry what i meant was ..after asking you --how the job is holding up, if you guys "left it placed" in 12 o'clock position and wanted to add if there was any issues with temp that made you guys switch the jiggle position.lot of these threads people go back and forth with the position.. thanks for clarification first time I actually hear this..about 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder thanks for responding man. @@mrgpomona420 The job is holding up fine. His engine temps are good. The orientation of the jiggle valve for the two different engines is how I specified. As ever, loads and loads of great content for many similar Toyotas and a really nice 4Runner. On the ‘misprint’ (yeah seen a few) I’m glad you pointed to the ‘standard’ torque settings at the front of the book for bolts etc based on their size. There are also torque settings elsewhere in the books for steel bolts of similar size into aluminium parts or that compress aluminium parts, such as on the thermostat housing as you had. Something else to bear in mind is that these torque values look to be for dis-assembly. They are maybe to warn you to not apply too much force and try other methods to avoid snapping etc, but I could be wrong? I think the giggle valve is there to allow a bit of hot water through, otherwise the thermostat can be starved of coolant that is hot enough to otherwise open it, or in its own bubble of cooler coolant, if that sounds better. I guess it’ll also let a bit of air through for fresh coolant that has more air dissolved. Really like that funnel and the excellent advice throughout. These vehicles are not that complicated but they need care and attention when servicing otherwise things get missed, go missing or get broken. Cool!!
Thanks for the comment. I've never seen just disassembly torque values. When they put them there as part of the steps to remove something, it's actually the torque value for reassembly. I've never seen two different values in the FSM pages. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the purpose of the jiggle valve. Yep, the Lisle Spill-Free Funnel is a game changer. Happy Wrenching!
