  • Are cheap copies as good as the real thing?
Instead of paying more than AU$1600 for IEM's for 1 person, I instead found a cheap copy from China that offered 2 UNITS for AU$560 and put them to the test.
Please forgive the long video but I am sure you'll find it very informative.
Top rated expensive models mentioned in this video were

I was looking forward to buy them like 2-3 weeks ago.
My band is still on wired IEM, but after this review we will definitely get them.
For 5-8 people in band IEM system is pretty expensive, but this looks like a real good cheap solution.
    Thanks Darren!

G'day Darren, great introduction to your secret sauce. Could you later evaluate the critical component of this signal chain i.e. the iem's themselves. Notwithstanding the cost savings of a transmitter and bodypack receiver, the actual iem's differ from one manufacturer to another. Perhaps interviews with your musicians on their performance mix preferences, experience with different company products etc.

One thing you might do is get extenchions for the antena's to the frount and not keep them on the back, I did have some problums like you had with my In-Ear amps being in the rack with the antena's in the back, cause it has to go thru or around your gear, and there is interferance there. Pretty cheap fix. Something to think about. I will try and find a link for you on them. As you know all the older great systems had them all on the frount, I'm sure they work better that way, cause your not playing befind the rack where the antena can shoot you a strong signal, it has to find you thru your jungle of studio gear, lol

Yeah ... you can get those G4s for about $A500 less than the link you put in at the time of the posting (turramusic and sound devices) ... but your point is still sound for sure. I had a bad experience with a different cheaper wireless IEM (LD Systems) so I am looking very close at more expensive options. But yes this is compelling and I'm keeping an eye on the supplier you linked to, they have one left at the time I am adding this comment but I'd be interested if they got more. Thanks for the tip and very much digging this and the SIL channels - thanks!

It's best to use wires in stereo imo if on budget; some musicians don't move much anyway. You'll get to hear closely how it sounds on speakers. We use CCA CA24 in-Ear Monitors which cost about $150 each but are worth it. Our Yamaha TF1 mixer has 16 aux outputs so 8 stereo pairs with separate eq, compressors, effects...ect. The sound is balanced, strong, and clear as if we are listening to live music. The bassist and drummer are very happy with it because it can hit low frequencies without any problems; they simply control the volume on each channel on their phone without affecting the others. Wireless in stereo is good but I was never able to achieve the quality of the wired setup. The difference is 85% only. True because they don't transmit in full audio frequency such as from 30hz to 20k so I had to adjust to match with the original mix; I believe the one you bought only transmits up to 15k or 16k in mono. I can imagine what it sounds like 🙂. We only use a reliable wireless system for singers. I think nothing can beat Shure PSM300 at the moment for its stereo function. It's the best and closest to the wired setup.

you are welcome to spend the money on the Shure. I agree it is better but this video COMPARES a cheap version to the ‘out of most people’s price range’ models.
Of course wired sounds better but that isn’t what this video is about.

Great information. My concern from reading the description is that they are mono. I see a left and right input. Does it take a stereo input but only deliver a mono output? Im wanting to have a stereo IEM solution for my studio. Thank you for great videos. We should collaborate sometime. 😊

Hi Darren...Great Video by the way...I was wondering if you had any ideas which may help me...I use the Shure PSM300 Wireless System along with the Shure GLXD4 Wireless Microphone System...I do gig a lot and we normally do our own mixing where the mixing desk is set up on stage near the Bass Player to control...The problem with this is that the Mixing Desk and my Wireless Units (Ears and Mic) are behind me and I find that I sometimes get some drop-out for a only a second but this is enough to be annoying as you could fully understand and appreciate...Could this be because there is no direct line of sight between the Microphone and the GLXD4 Receiver Unit and if so do you have any ideas on how to maybe rectify this other than setting up the GLXD4 Receiver in front of the Microphone which as I stated is always behind me...Thank You Darren...Very Much Appreciated...Jody.

They aren’t strictly stereo. It’s more like channel on channel with a tight image. Sennheiser added a stereo/mono function in their unit and this one has only frequency switching 4 banks of 10 frequencies

@@producernerd my band has two of the exact same IEM systems - ours are MONO. Even though it has left and right inputs, the two are mixed together and that is what you hear in both L and R ears out of the receiver's headphone jack. I knew this before I bought them, so it was a conscious decision to accept the mono limitation. Bought them a couple of years ago, so maybe there are multiple 'generations' of this generic IEM system? Do your transmitter and/or receiver have a model/version number on them?
