Can't believe we're gonna see Melf, the Male Elf casting his iconic spell!
As nerdy as it sounds, one of the things I am most excited for is the revised language. I don’t want to go through any more arguments at the table about what a sentence is communicating 😂
Yeah good luck there
From the number of times they kept tweaking the resting rules during the playtests, I'm hopeful!
Please, please make attack with a melee weapon and melee weapon attack mean the same thing.
@@garion046 PREACH!
You will just get a new batch of arguments over the exact meaning of sentences. Give it time.
I can’t wait to let the art and text of these books melt over me like butter on a hot scone 🫠. I LOVE hearing that there are not only subclasses being added that didn’t go through the UA process, but that they’ve continued to be refined/improved as well.
Psi Warrior and Soul Knife! 🎉🎉🎉
Hey, I know that account! That's Colby!! 😀😁
Early bird!
@@Master_of_Antares 👋🏻
Hell yeah!
I wonder how many confetti emojis the new monk subclasses will be worth to Colby.
I hope there’s some sort of “if your players are using classes/subclasses not listed in this book, follow this chart to get them up to date (so to speak) with one dnd.” With class progression, spells. That sort of thing.
So much this. As much as they've said this is supposed to remain 5E compatible, there's WAY too many subclasses in place now to not provide some guidance on that.
Yes!!! I hope they have detailed information on how to adress this
They are probably going to release a supplement with a compilation of all subclasses. No free lunch
Honestly, I wouldn't even need that. From what I've seen of 5.5 (or whatever), it will actually be backwards compatible. At that point, it's just a change of maybe adjusting the levels if need be and updating the poorly made early stuff (here's to you Necromancer Wizard).
They fact that they have decided to go the specific details route instead of leaving things to DM interpretation already has solidified that this will be a great book.
They implied the PHB would be 'quite large/thick', I hope they have a great index. I'm constantly using it to find specific rules.
D&d beyond is perfect for this and many other reasons but I understand people have budgetary concerns
@@JoshuaJones_solarisdevorakreally? I’ve always felt dndbeyond had a pretty bad search function
@@JoshuaJones_solarisdevorak beyond and many online references are great and practical... but man if I don't love having a physical copy of any game's rules book. and as such, a better index would be fantastic
Sticky notes color coded to different types of rules are vital for using a physical book
@@JoshuaJones_solarisdevorak Is not budgetary concerns, is the fact that most of us prefer our stuff to be tangible
I know the only thing people want to talk about is classes and races, but I was one of the apparently very few people who actually read the new stealth/invisibility rules that were in the playtest for many versions, and they are deeply, deeply silly and completely broken. Going into a cupboard and crouching for a bit (until you suceeded on a DC 15 check against nobody), you would turn transparent and could thus leave it and walk around invisible.
It seems to stem from an attempt at making being invisible and being undetected by other creatures the same thing (i.e. making it impossible for someone to be transparent but audible/noticeable). Which is unnecessary and likely not possible without making major sacrifices, even if you came up with a great way to state those rules.
There weren't really that many problems with the old stealth rules, once you cobbled them together. They were just kind of badly explained, and also spread out in multiple places in the book and not truly gathered under a single heading, so I understand if people think they were perhaps bad - but really they were very simple and truly did get the job done without any real problems.
(if there were any problems with the old stealth rules IMO, perhaps it was just that it's not ideal to have the player roll their own stealth check "ahead of time", so it might be an improvement if the rules simply had the GM roll your stealth check for you when there was a chance of detection or something like that.)
don't fumble
don't fumble

There’s always that 1 in 20 chance right?
They already did, they went with Species a Science based word, not Ancestry, forbearers, or any other fantasy term to describe what you are by birth.
@@gothicshark I don't see a problem in a science based word, the DnD lore is not extremelly selective with words as a tolkien book, for exemple

PsyWarrior and SoulKnife, huh. Interesting and pleasing
Love those subclasses, really glad they're in
Yeah. I love how the Psi Warrior's feature set is rich, but streamlined.
RIP in piece ""confirmed"" subclass lists. Everyone just slammed all the playtest subclasses onto a list and called it ""confirmed"".
Seem to incorporate psionics as a base concept.
I had anticipated the Psy warrior, I should have thought one step ahead to realise they would add psychic feats and the Soul knife and maybe even some psychic-feeling feats
The second ever D&D 5e character I made I wanted to feel like a psychic, this was before Tashas so all we had was the Goolock, but it was still very fun
My very first character after the next PHB comes out will be another Goolock, (also with the new preset background cultist), I am very excited to see more spell art, like, not sure it will be in here but...
What the heck does hunger of hadar look like???
The OCEAN of readily available youtube content on D&D from pros to fans... they have so many voices and suggestions to make this product a delight to play. Here's to hoping!
Yolande and Jallarzi are some Greyhawk deep cuts. Very interested to learn what new spells they have named after them. For those not in the know, Yolande is the elven Queen of Celene and Jallarzi was a later member of the Circle of 8 replacing Bucknard.
I hope they update the deities in the PHB. Give more details about where their temples are, who worships them, new god art (not just their holy symbols), give examples on how to roleplay devotion to said deity, and incentivize non-clerics to care about the gods too. Just more than the bare bones information the old PHB had.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new rules/guidelines on illusion magic is. Hopefully they're doing something like that for stealth too.
Gotta say. These two make it hard for me to boy cott the product.
I can’t dispute the clear passion these two have for the game.
@@MisterSmith00 and maybe it's because I was an advent fan of DCA, but I agree. These guys love the game and I'm sure under better business leadership we would have a different look on the DnD side of WotC Hasbro
Same. Its important to acknowledge the power gap between the development team who want to make the best game they can and the executive team who want to make as much money as they can. Love the devs, hate the suits. That's what it always comes down to
@@WyrmshieldYeah. I miss the days when Nathan Stewart was the "go-between" of the corporate and creative ends. From 2014 to about 2019, it seemed like D&D was able to fly under the radar. It was successful enough to placate Hasbro, but not so explosively popular that it stimulated Hasbro's greed glands.
It’s not the employees with the DND team that’s awful, it’s Hasbro, I find it hard to boycot the team, on one hand you have a passionate team like the dnd team, but then you have the greedy corporate blood suckers over seeing the whole operation, dictating creative liberties, cutting the developers, and then taking home huge yearly bonuses. It’s hard as the consumer to juggle on that tight rope. As long as the Dnd team keeps pouring their hearts into this game, I’m going to support it, but I’ll be yelling from the back calling for Hasbro to sell dnd and WotC all day long.
Very curious to see how this is all integrated on Beyond to allow us to use the version of core classes (2014 or 2024) versions and if we can mix subs and cores between their new and old versions. I'm very curious to see how this all pans out.
There'll probably be a toggle to turn on/off prior versions of classes/subclasses once you buy the 2024 book on DnDB.
Possibly subclasses that had prior versions will just have those old versions labelled as legacy.
I literally shouted for the possibility of playing a real good psi knight.
Dwight says: "The Schrutes have a word for when everything in a man's life comes together perfectly. Perfectenschlag. Right now, I am in it. I finally get a chance to prove myself to corporate. I am assembling a competent team. I am likely a father. I am so deep inside of perfectenschlag right now.”
10:30 Really would have preferred the Arcane Archer be revisited, TBH.
Yeah. That subclass could use a bit of a freshening. The trick shots are all very cool, but they run out so quickly. Rune Knight shows a good template for how the Arcane Archer could be improved, by adding some passive benefits to your choices.
Too niche for a phb though. Definitely would love to see fixes the AA and PDK though.
every time they mention tashas cauldron it seems like the devs agree with me that its by far the best book
It's by far the most important 5e book outside of the 3 core books.
Tasha's was definitely the last great book published for 5e.
LOL Tasha's is TERRIBLE! The new subclasses are UA tier and the book is just unnecessarily wordy.
Xanathar's has MORE subclasses, yet far fewer pages devoted to subclasses. Just compare the PHB GOO Warlock's telepathy ability to the psionic sorcerer from Tasha's and you'll see how terribly written Tasha's is
Tashas was by far and away not the best anything. Sorry sir
@@trequor I mean, comparing GOOlock, subclass that was bad even at release, to any other subclass isn't that good of an idea. It's like saying that Battlemaster is overpowered because it adds more than +0.3 to damage that Champion add.
Love the Wizard art, she looks amazing.
I hope in their text review they notice that due to wording in both playtests Rogue lost hand-crossbow proficiency, which is an iconic rogue weapon.
the wording needs to be changed from "simple weapons and martial weapons with the finesse property"
to
"simple weapons and martial weapons with the finesse or light property"
You and the creative team are appreciated. Just keep rolling
Truth! How many arguments have been ended by “Jeremy Crawford said…”
I've grown to love these three guys. Thanks for all your enduring work for the community of D&D!
I’m really happy about this. The 2014 books honestly felt really haphazard so I’m so happy to see the care they are taking for these books
well it was a brnad nerw edition with a skeleton crew design team :D i think tis fair to say they struck gold, but didnt fully appreciate the META or how old features would interact or translate into the new game
I really feel like we could use a (good) 5.5e. While it's very easy to access for new players, I think there's a lot that could be done to add more individual crunch to the current edition without compromising the experiences of new players. Adding some extra mechanics to encourage creativity and allowing players to make characters of the same class (and even subclass) that can play differently mechanically just as much as they do in RP would be a great step in the right direction. I think the biggest catch in 5e is that it is often designed feeling like it's telling you what you can't do rather than giving you a bunch of cool things to pick from and let you build a unique character. The first thing I always do is let the ability score increases give you BOTH your increase and grab a feat. Currently I think too many people in the scene are concern trolling about things being OP, when really they're not even close to that if you compare to what you can get up to in other game systems. Just my two cents anyhow. I've been hoping to get the time to work on something like this myself. So, I'm happy to see the team is giving it a crack.
Didn't expect to see mi'lord here. Here, a cushion for your troubles.
I love my soulknife so much! I hope they continue to be awesome!
I love the dynamic of these 3 dudes. Always a delight to watch. Thank you!
Love the art in the background! And I'm guessing Todd's mic wasn't charged. Shout out to the person/team that problem solved that issue! Great job!
Bit disappoint to hear Brawler got the boot, though hopeful there's a feat or two to make a unarmed or improvised weapon fighter/barbarian at least a little more competetive than it was in the old rule set.
It is sad.
Grabs Tavern Brawler...
I really don't like it as a subclass. I would much prefer it as a combination of a Fighting Style and several Feats, so you can grab Unarmed Fighting, Tavern Brawler, and Grappler as a Paladin and Smite Punch people.
@@AwesomeWookiee I can't remember if they're bringing unarmed fighting across. I forgot that they made tavern brawler (cause background feat) and grappler (cause bunch of QoL improvements) better.
Not having tested it, IDK if two feats plus a fighting style brings you up to compete with say, a polearm or a bow in terms of damage and weapon mastery bonus effects, but maybe?
@@AwesomeWookiee 100% much better as a feat / fighting style.
Brawler was just a bunch of feats disguised as features. You can still have it, just grab them.
I can't wait for the followup videos about the 2024 phb!
I am immensely excited for the new core books! I can't wait to see what new stuff has been added, but moreso to get the benefits of all those UX improvements and just have an easier time navigating and finding the information I need.
I have an idea of a feature that i think can be implemented in the new edition of dnd for the paladin: First of all the divine smite return a paladin's feature and not a spell. Than i have an idea for a new feature:
Greater Divine Smite: At level 17 the paladin once per long rest or using a channel divinity charge when using Divine Smite can use "Greater Divine Smite" dealing the paladin's level+charisma modifier extra radiant damage and unleashing an effect based on the sacred oath, if the attack misses he can decide to try again with the second attack, if by the end of the turn he has not managed to hit the enemy he can decide to maintain concentration by conserving the Greater Divine smite until one of his attacks hit, while maintaining concentration the paladin is affected by the holy fire effect ( he suffers 1d4 radiant damage each turn) and when he attacks he must use divine smite.
One of the things I really really enjoy about 5th is how interesting it made multiclassing and how much fun you can have combining stuff. So happy to hear they are very aware and protective of that. It really heightens the game (even though I am currently playing a singleclass wizard). Great interview - looking forward to more.
Thank you very much, team, for your unwavering dedication, tireless effort, and steadfast perseverance.
Very good chance we’re getting a significant rework to how Gloomstalker works woooooo!
Psionic subclasses being PHB is fun, hopefully they bring them home well.
But who got cut from rogue?
It would have to be either the Swashbuckler or Assassin. I really hope it's not Swashbuckler.
@@anthonywalden239 Between Sashbuckler and Assassin it had to be Swashbuckler. Don't get me wrong, I would also prefer for Assassin to be cut out instead but its way too much of a classic archetype (Thief is on the same boat). Same thing with Berserker Barbarian, Devotion Paladin, Open Hand Monk etc. Those are irreplaceable
Assassin, Thief, Arcane Trickster, and add Soul Knife... Right? The first three are the ones that are in the 2014 PHB.
I know the Assassin wasn't really anyone's favourite. Hopefully that's the one they cut. I know it's a classic, but D&D isn't really cut out for a solo game of Hitman.
@@anthonywalden239 Swashbuckler just sort of doesn't work in the current feature cadence. If Rogues kept their 6th level subclass feature, then Swashbucklers could get their swashbuckler-y Cunning Strikes options there, but having to wait until level 9 or 13 to remotely even Buckle your Swashes with your Cunning Strikes, let alone Swashing your Buckles, means that 90% of Swashbucklers are basically playing a bad thief for their entire career anyway.
In my opinion, losing the 3 / 6 / 10 / 14 feature cadence really messed up Rogues and Bards from a design perspective. A Swashbuckler with a level 6 sublcass feature could have Cunning Strike features that really lean into the archetype. Again, given the limited scope of the revision, I get the choice not to, just stinks.
Oh god , only these three guys could make me tear up of just talking about a book that isn't even out yet!
As someone who produces free fan-made Dark Sun products/adventures, including the subclasses would serve to make psionic-related mechanics more mainstream, visible and palatable. This could be used as a segue into a future official psionic class/supplement.
For Dark sun I made the sorcerer class a psion with no VS but a loss of power. They only needed material components if it has a GP value.
Same thing with many "spell casting subclasses". I didn't reduce the power of the four element monks I just gifted them with zero VS requirements.
@@pheralanpathfinder4897 Nice, I did something similarly with my psionic artificer.
Please keep Aberrant Mind as is in Tasha's it is so flavorful both mechanically and thematically!
I just wanted to say you guys have been doing a great job, I’m looking forward to playing many of the more heavily reworked classes, the monk, rogue and barbarian in particular were fantastic at the end of the UA. I’m also really looking forward to using the bastion system and to see how you’ve adjusted it since how we last saw it. I’m also looking forward to see what you do with the Bard, I enjoy martials and half casters more but you guys had really fun and creative ideas for the class.
As a side note I’m a little sad the dancer subclass won’t be there but I do hope you guys revisit it at some point. It had really fun ideas and a very strong and fun theme, you could totally adjust it to make it work or maybe even adapt it to being a monk subclass instead.
I'm excited for the new art. Supposedly, the new PHB is a massive text book.
These guys are the great. I could listen to them for so long!🥰
So exciting!
I love how far the art has come since I started playing in the 80s.
Hopefully they adopted Xanathar's shepherd druid in this Player's Handbook and changed it to make it compatible with the new conjuration spells. If they didn't, shepherd druid is virtually unplayable (especially the 14th level ability).
13:08 "And promotion of a couple new species" So they're really going for species (which is more limited) instead of lineage (a word that was already used before, as in Custom Lineage). I wonder if we'll still get half-elves and half-orcs (which existence don't quite fit the biological definition of species).
I hope we get half dragons. People have been asking for the since the start of 5e
I like how they are switching up the subclasses when they update the classes but I'm somewhat worried about being able to incorperate older subclasses into the new system. Are they making new supplementary books to recreate the older subclasses and add more? What about the other classes like Artificer and Blood Hunter, are they in this book and not shown in the UA playtest or are they going to be in a new iteration of Tasha's, will we get more classes? Artificer is one of my favorite class so not seeing in the UA was a bit confusing especially since I want to see more subclasses introduced
I hope they are making all subclasses not fully "ON" until level 3. It unbalances multi-classing options when you have Hexblade dip available at level 1, with other subclasses not online until level 3. It just opens up so many things to abuse. If a player wants the benefits, I want to see a commitment to the new class.
Functional working and usable Index please!
I'm very much looking forward to the release of these 3 books.
They will have to be extremely special to get me to buy these books again
So excited for more of a deep dive into the new PHB!
This definitely could be the prettiest edition - we will see how good the rules for running the game will be

I'm incredibly excited for the new rule book! DnD is my favourite TRPG and I cannot wait to see what I can add to my sessions.
The next book after the core three needs to be an update to the rest of the subclasses and the artificer. We need the rest of the cleric domains and the wizard schools, Xansthar and Tasha"s subclasses updated and in DDB.
Is it weird that I think of FDR every time I see fireside chat.
Nice video and break down.
As a forever DM - lol Can you just pls put the actual prices of magic items in a book 😂 it is the most common question I've received as a DM.
I assume the Soulknife is replacing the Swashbuckler that was showcased in the UA? That's fine because I thought the ball was really dropped with the Swashbuckler in that UA and despite some quirks on the Soulknife that needed ironing out it's a smart inclusion to show that psionics are a larger part of D&D.
Really? I personally loved the u.a swash. I thought the new ways to use cunning strike with it was really cool.
Some have suggested that Assassin might have got bumped to the DMG.
Excited to get my hands on the books, going to be a long week of going through them page by page.
This is excellent news as someone that is currently playing a playtest Rouge with Soulknife tacked on. I think the blades having a Mastery Property (preferably nick or vex) will really help out the subclass. Hopefully they give them a unique Cunning Strike option like the other Rouge subclasses got. I also think giving the blades some kind of scaling would also be massive: +1 at 5-7ish, +2 at 9-11ish, +3 at 15-17ish? But that's just wishful thinking.
Might make them feel more unique if they had masteries that finesse weapons don't usually have like graze or sap.
@@gloryrod86 Oh yeah! I really like that. I'm not sure what property would best tho
Nick and vex are my 2 favorite masteries for rogues right now, i want them to make it so psyblades can make opptunity attacks and not need a physical weapon for it. But scaling for then would be awesome but unique cunning strikes would be sick.
@@shadowstep420 I've always used them as a ranged option, so I've never been in a position to make an opp attack, but I can understand how frustrating it'd be to miss that chance at extra damage just because you are a soulknife.
Can we get coverage on player transformations vampirism and lycanthropy? Something that is not as deflating as you losing control of your character and the DM then takes over your character. They are other supplements like Grimm Hollow to name one, that offer options for transformations and I would love for a way that you guys could incorporate that to be an option, not a player option but a DM option, a DM option that can be translate over as a player option but can only be provided by the DM.
Here's hoping Paladin's Bonus Action economy isn't awful in the final product
Given the amount of gas Eldritch Knight and Bladelocks got without action economy woes, I'd hope the actual half-casters don't have a more restrictive playstyle than Dance Bard.
Bonus action smite was by far the worst change to any class. It's disgusting what is being done to the Paladin.
Paladin is still a fairly good class though. But yes, bonus action seems overloaded even within basic class, not to mention subclasses or feats.
@@sharmelfattakhov5041 No, it's really not. It's easily the weakest class in the entire playtest.
It was a great change. Paladins are one of the strongest if not the strongest class, they needed to be reined in @@tiradegrandmarshal

Excited to see Psi-Warrior and Soulknife in the new PHB, but it raises a question. If each class is getting 4 subclasses, then Which of the 4 Rogue subclasses mentioned in its last UA will be replaced to make room for the soulknife?
"The Psi warrior replaces the brawler-" Oh... Yay *throws brawler build in the trash* Well, there goes that plan.
Fix the Challenge Rating, fix two weapon fighting, fix magic item creation, fix some feats... job done :)

Are you guys working on the Sherpard druid with the change to the conjure animals and conjure fey spell the 6th level feature doesn't work.
Theres a couple features like this, the necromancer comes to mind. I hope so too!
It isn't going to be in the PHB but you can talk to your DM about how boost the new conjure spells or apply the features to the Tasha's summoning spells (which are going to be in the new book). Either way, Shepard is getting a well deserved nerf.
Sorry, im lost... what changed in "conjure animals" and "conjure feys" spells that now doesn't work on the 6th level feature from the Circle of the Shepherd?
@@heyyou193 np. The idea is that the summoning spells from the old phb aren't going to make it into this version because they're either too good or not fun to play with at the table. So the spells that do make it in (the Tasha's summons) aren't designed to work with the wording of some of these augmenting features. It's unlikely that they won't fix this in the new phb.
@@heyyou193 They are now spirits with no hit points. The best fix I can think of is to make them non Concentration spells at that level. That's assuming you are sticking with the updated Conjure spells and not replacing them with the Summoning Spells.
I hope most of all that a lot of the underwhelming class/subclass features are changed to be more fun. The changes to the wizard's savant feature is a good example of the changes theyve made so far
I am excited. I reserve my right to be disappointed after the fact, but I think this is a good move moving 5e forward. I am concerned about power creep and continued difficulties of encounter balance the most, but that gets easier to deal with over time regardless. Let's go!
Many aren’t happy with clerics and sorcerers having subclasses at level 3. I should be able to heal and support my allies as a divine soul sorcerer at level 1, ans I should be able to do trickster things as a trickery cleric by casting disguise self at level 1
So exited for this book!!!
oh Jebus, I hope they didn't cut the Swashbuckler - it was so good in the UA! from what I remember the Thief was the least polished so my bet is that's the one that's being cut.
No way thief is being cut. As much work as it still needs its the quintessential rogue. Thatd be like cutting evocation wizard or champion fighter.
That being said swashbuckler is 1 of my all time favorite subclasses alongside sun soul monks, bladesinger wizards, and college of sword bards so i really really hope it stays.
@@caosisaac I would be more than fine if they scrap champion fighter - even with changes it is still most boring subclass fighter have.
Champion may be a nice option for a few levels.
The art is looking awesome. I'm curious to see how much of the Unearthed Arcana made into it
I am waiting to see what, if anything, has been done between magic weapons, and Rogues. Rogues as the only weapon using class that does not get extra attack seem to get about half as much benefit out of most magic weapons, since almost all of them have "per attack" effects (One of the best official magic weapons/items a Rogue can get is "Bracer of Flying Daggers", which basically give Rogues the Extra Attack feature), and this gap between Rogues, and other weapon using martial classes, and half-caster classes seems to be one of the largest issues with the Rogue class that was not addressed in the playtest.
to be fair, they do make up with it through the sneak attack feature
With weapon mastery, you can grab a weapon with the nick property and make what would have been a bonus action attack, apart of your attack action. While they still need two weapon fighting to gain their modifier on damage rolls, I think they have a reliable multiattack, and with the cunning action at level 5 and up, I think rogues are in a unique position, to be a very fluid, and fun class to play with the phb24.
This would be more of a dmg so9lution than phb solution as its mroe tied to having magic weapons that only proc one per turn.
@@bigvidboi4909 yes, and no.
Looking at the base classes with only ASI's, and no magic weapons, the sustained average damage of a Rogue with sneak attack (regardless of weapon choice) will generally be greater than the potential average damage if a sword & board Fighter of a similar level hits with all of their attacks, but less than the potential average damage if a greatsword Fighter of that level hits with all their attacks.
When you take miss chances into account, a high level Rogue with Advantage on their one attack every turn (which should be fairly easy) should be averaging more damage over the adventuring day than a greatsword Fighter attacking normally, but less than the average damage if that greatsword Fighter can get Advantage on all of their attacks, and putting magic weapons into the equations, the more attacks the Fighter can get to land, the more average damage will shift in the Fighter's favor.
I have been focusing on comparing the Rogue, and Fighter, but Barbarians with Advantage from Reckless attack every turn would be very likely to get the benefits of multiple hits per turn out of a magic weapon, and with Monks getting the teased "Monk specific magic weapons" any "per hit" effects could be very likely to trigger 2, or 3+ times per turn.
@@roninhare9615 Yeah, the Nick Weapon Mastery will really help rogues deal reliable damage, but with magic weapons I think there is a bit of a bottleneck that I am interested in seeing addressed.
Are Rogues going to be forced to have 2 magic weapons (and two attunement slots?) on par with a different martial class, or half-caster class attacking with a single magic weapon?
Will there be some new "paired weapon" magic weapons to support two-weapon-fighting with a single attunement slot?
Will a transition away from resistance to non-magical Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage mean it is alright for a two-weapon-fighting character's off-hand weapon to not be magical?
Are there going to be more magic items like "Bracer of Flying Daggers", "Scimitar of Speed", and "Dancing Blade" which would grant Rogues something equivalent of the "Extra Attack" feature?
I still kinda want to stick it to WotC and Hasbro and say I don't need this book but I just love Chris and Jeremy too much to turn my back on their hard work.
I haven't been following closely. Do we know if there will be day 1 support for the new rules on Dndbeyond?
Please, please tell me there’s now a Feat for Thrown Weapon Fighting. Or at least something that makes it a viable play style.
The current Giant barb make it good, no?
Overhaul of GWM and SS should make many weapon builds more competitive
@@garion046 I don’t think GWF or SS need to be overhauled. They are distinct, fun and strong for their respective fighting styles, what they did with dual wielding brings two weapon fighting up to their level (I think). They just need something flavorful that does the same thing for throwing weapons. Also, tweaking Thrown Weapon Fighting to work with things like the Eldritch Kights Weapon Bond as drawing a weapon uses the same action economy as summoning it to your hand. I’m sure there’s other examples for subclasses, but that one just stands out the most of me.
@@garion046 what makes a Giant Barb good with thrown weapons?
Wondering if/when the new PHB (and other books later) will be made available in an accessible digital format? Having a physical book is fantastic, but many people won't be able to enjoy it due to various disabilities.
It will be on DnD Beyond, and eventually something with become an SRD online. There's basically zero chance you get a PDF though.
I hope the spell section includes an Artificer tag for any new spells they would have access to (and any changes to their current list). If I want to play Artificer with the new rules, I'd at least like to know my spell options and not get attached to a combo that won't actually be there.
Well artificer isn't included at all in the new phb no?
@@20storiesunder Right, but if they're so insistent on it being backwards compatible, then we should be able to play an artificer with the new rules, just like if we picked an old subclass that isn't in the new book.
But if we do play artificer, we can only pick old spells, even though they most certainly will have access to some new ones.
And if the new PHB is the hub of new info, it only makes sense to add the tag, instead of needing to reprint the list in whatever book the artificer comes out in.
@@UltimateMustacheX Ahhh gotcha. Yeah makes a lot of sense
Can’t wait to see how much they dance around hexblades and the blade cantrips this time!
But most importantly, will the index in the back of the book have page numbers for easy reference in game, or will the index in the Player’s Handbook be a DM DIY project?
Still holding my thumbs for some kind of awesome improvement for Wild surge for Wild magic sorcerer. More expanded, more fun, more chaos!
I hope they fixed the soul knife opportunity attack
Just by what they said I think they are going to make the attack as part of attack action instead of a bonus action and nerf the amount of dice
to explain if you didn't know what I mean, the soul knife can manifest their psi knife RAW on their turn but not off turn say during an Op.Atk so you are encouraged to not be holding a weapon in order to use your ability but as a consequence you miss out... this could be fixed with a small wording update on the rule to allow this
It's all down to the MSRP; hopefully the price isn't ungodly
Please make that the first new book after the new monster manual it'll be a second player handbook with all the subclasses of previous 5e books that there aren't in the new player handbook.
Wait, this new PH is supposed to have 4 subclass for each class, and in the UAs, the Rogue already had 4: Assassin, Thief, Arcane Trickster, and the Swashbuckler. And now you also announce the Soul Knife. So which Subclass is going out and replaced by Soul Knife?
I have a theory that maybe they will include 5 subclasses instead of 4 as a sort of surprise for everyone, it would feel way better than cutting any of them.
Well it won't be assassin or thief, that's for sure.
I really wish the magic: the gathering branch put this much focus when looking at the final product for sets. The amount of times things are missed, art/text is wrong, is baffling with the amount of sets that come out now. They really need someone who isn’t on the team look at the final product and ask all the questions on things that don’t make sense (like the reminder text on how/when cases are solved in karlove manner)
D&D has evolved and "matured" over the decades. It will be good to finally get a set of rules that reflect that. I can't wait!
I wonder how many more black strong female lesbians they add.
@@ZeroHxC07 Mate, stop being so lame
@@20storiesunder I’m less lame than you, I can tell you for a fact 😂
I'll die on the hill that the Champion subclass should be on the Barbarian Class chasis. Barbarian is simpler than a Fighter why not just give them that subclass? Barbarian class features work perfectly together with Champion subclass features...
While this does give me a lot of hope for the PHB, I hope a psion class makes a return. Unlikely as it is, that's always been one of my favorite things in my time playing these games.
I haven’t really been keeping up, is all 3 books going to come out at the same time or is each book being released one at a time?
from what i've heard, PHB in september, DMG in november, and MM february of next year
Any chance the artificer will be released to match the changes in the upcoming players handbook?
I'm guessing we'll have to wait for a future editio "of Everything" book like Xanthar or Tasha's for the Artificer. That'll likely not happen until 2024.
Would be cool if each new book like that could include a new class. Having the Mystic in Tasha's would be pretty cool.
@@aubreyalexander3894 I suppose you are correct. It saddens me though. Artificer is a massively popular class. I hope it's current 5e version will be permitted to be used alongside the revised PHB classes and spells until we get an 'updated' one.
@@robertdebroeck8291 Yeah. I don't like it much easier. I wish, for players sake, they could be more transparent about what this actually means for access to the Artificer.
I'm 100% sure that I've heard that you can play a 2014 Artificer in the same adventure group as 2024 characters. So I'm pretty confident that you'll have your hope when this comes out later this year and have book in hand.
The Psy Warrrior is in!!! Yaaay I missed him so much!
I mean... sure he won't be as awesome as he was in 3.5 probably... but he deserves to be in the core phb
With so much talk about art, I genuinely hope they don't dive into using AI for the art. I'm legitimately waiting to purchase this until after I've seen others express there is no AI "art" involved.
months ago they updated their policy to not use any generated ai images in their products. the one book which contained ai from one specific artist got also updated with new art
