love this song, but i've gotta say, the snare is mixed way too loud and really detracts from the rhythm with those bright boring 2, 4 snare hits. I know it's a cute song, but with her jazz sensibility, some more ghost notes and syncopation could have been cool.
its a jazz pop cross over with more focus to the pop side.... drum being clean and simple sounds the best. we aint talking about swing here.... when she was soloing they were swinging and was playing to what you were looking for tho right? should be enuf.
but i also agree to certain point tho. like as for drummer, if the drummer had gospel chops, it wouldve def sounded a lot better. in which case, hi hat shouldve been played a bit more.
you're right about the jazz pop cross over aspect. definitely not asking for anything overly complex, a nice solid groove is great but it's just how loudly the snare is mixed that seems to over power everything, and drums being the so crucial to rhythm, the fact that I just keep hearing the snare on 2 and 4 doesn't allow the interplay of the piano rhythms with the simple drum groove. so it doesn't feel like jazz pop cross over but just pop. when she played with just piano, there was a lot more of a flowing feel.
like listen to how much louder the snare is on this, than on the RANDOM video. anyway, it just bothered me personally as a listener. thanks for your thoughts on the matter
