I do my mayo with the immersion blender, but I don’t have to drizzle it. I use the whole egg, some mustard, salt, vinegar or lemon. Put all this is a long tall recipient(usually comes with the immersion blender), then pour the oil on top so that is double the volume of all the other ingredients. Then gently lower the immersion blender (turned off) and get it to the bottom. Only then I start it on turbo and keep it there without moving for a few seconds, until I see that mayo is starting to form on the bottom. Then I gently and slowly go up and down with the blender stick, first not all the way, until I get more and more of the oil incorporated. After all is smooth, if I want it to be thicker, I add more oil. If I want it runnier, I add some sparkling water. It takes a minute in total I think. And no need to slowly drizzle. You can also substitute the egg with same volume of milk, or aquafaba(water from canned or self boiled and cooled chickpeas)
I do this way also. I found a mason jar in my pantry, tall and 2 cup markings on the side. I put oil in first to measure then add everything else. Works perfectly and no dishes! When I first weaned my family off a lifetime of Best Foods/Hellmans I added a touch of sugar, a little onion powder, and used rice vinegar for the acid. I use Azures avocado oil and turns out well!
That's good to know! I'm gonna make mayo for dressing this week for the first time and I hate trying to get stuff like out of the bottom of the blender. I feel like I waste a lot simply because I can't get what's around the blade out.
Lots of ideas on making Mayo. I liked the option of no egg as I am not to eat raw. This is why I have never made it. I should have looked for substitutes for the egg. Chelsie, you are so talented and have a lot of helpful subscribers too. I was excited to get a nice look at your newly decorated family room. I just love the furniture, the wood tones, the coffe table is super. Where did you get that. It has storage drawers also. Wow. Really nice. Back to the video, yes to catching up on fresh salads and your restock hauls are always fun. Thanks .
It’s not super frugal but we keep Mayo packets from the wholesale restaurant store. If you run out of home made Mayo you can just use a couple of those without starting and needing to use a large container. Also if we take sandwiches fishing it’s nice to have the option of self contained Mayo and not soggy bread.
Chelsea, Since changing the color of your cabinets and furniture the entire main area has lightened up dramatically. It’s so beautiful and inviting. You have made beautiful and impactful choices! Way to go girlfriend!👏🏼
I used to buy a lot of tomato paste, but last year, I took all of my tomato skins and seeds from making sauce and freeze-dried them. Then, I put them through the blender to make a powder. I now use the powder in place of Tomato Paste and find it amazing!
As you were moving your plants around, I was showing my husband how beautiful your living room is. I just love your house! You mentioned someone commenting recently about doing a big Costco haul after the pantry challenge and asking how that saved you any money. Well, you still saved a lot of money because the things you restocked on were not canned foods or produce that most people have to buy weekly at the store. Your hard work growing and preserving food saves you lots I'm sure! I truly admire you!
You saved money from impulse buying. I can run into Costco or Walmart for 3 or 4 items and walk out with a cart full. This happens way more often than not.
Your living room looks so lovely! I make my Mayo in a wide mouth mason jar with an immersion blender which makes for less dishes. Also, I don’t have to drizzle the oil. I put the oil in, egg, mustard, lemon juice and salt. Put the immersion blender in (while off) and directly over the egg. Turn it on but don’t move it until most of it is emulsified. Then move around until done. Takes less than 2 minutes. I do wish it had a longer shelf life too.
I LOVE olives! So, I asked the olive guy at the market if I could buy a small barrel. He looked at me kinda strange, but I got a great deal!! Greek salad is our go to, so no scrimping on the olives now!
chelsea make mayo with whole egg in a jar to fit your stick blender put in all ingredients vinegar mustard s and p and if you add 2 tablespoons of a ferment will last month in the fridge,,,,,,put in all oil at once stick to the bottom of jar and blend lift after emulsification begins its much easier and the mayo is already in the jar
Your home, your ceiling, living room, and kitchen are absolutely stunning. WOW! God bless you all and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister 🙏🏻
What a good haul! If you use a stick blender for mayonnaise, you don't have to drizzle the oil. You can put everything in a jar, blend it and then just pop a lid on. No need to clean the blender.
Someone commented that one of the plants may be a peace lily. Lillies are extremely toxic to cats and can cause kidney failure very quickly if they chew on it. This includes the pollen from the flowers. Keep an eye on the kitties to make sure they don’t go near them and keep it out of reach.
Just a tip in case you haven't heard of this mayo method... put 3 whole eggs and 3 cups oil in a wide mouth quart jar (plus lemon juice, salt etc. to flavor) then use an emersion blender at the very bottom till emulsified... then slowly rock the blender from side to side allowing the oil and eggs to continue to blend as you rise towards the top... you'll get a good mayonnaise every time. 😊 Thank you for another great video❤
Thanks for taking the time to put out all the videos. They are always wonderful and very informative. I know you love your kitties, and you probably already know this. Some very common plants are poison to cats. Among those are lilies, poinsettia, mistletoe, and aloe vera, to name a few. I wasn't sure what kind you had. By the way, the plant looks great on the mantel 😊
Yes, I quit trying to keep my house spotless it's a blessing at a time like this to put all that on the back burner and enjoy this time with my family.❤❤❤
I had to giggle about the plant placement....I do the same thing and just today had hubby help me move end tables around between the living room and bedroom....and I'm still running around trying to figure out the best plant configuration!! Its what we do Chelsea - we make things look pretty and cozy. Good for us!! : )
That desk/coffee table is neat! Man I wish I had a Costco close to me, that butter price is an absolute deal! My local grocery store sells butter for $8-9 each! Your mayo looks great, I make mine a bit different but we absolutely love it. Really looking forward to seeing your pantry update and post pantry challenge chat.
I have absolutely love the contents of your videos. The yellow dish towels are going to look amazing in your kitchen. Very pretty good choice. And yes, create a beautiful space, it’s important for the soul.
Oh no…..now I am adding to my Costco list after watching this. We are staying over night in PG and making a big Costco run tomorrow. I may have to try them choc caramel pretzel thingys, yum. 🇨🇦🌷
I keep saying to myself one of the plants would be perfect on your fireplace. I am glad you choose to do it in the video its perfect. Loved your Costo hall.
It's absolutely fascinating watching North Americans show food hauls, because of the size of the food packages! I don't know anywhere here in Sweden where you could buy ketchup that big!
One of your plants appears to be a corn plant. The one that did not react to the cold. They can actually grow to be quite large so if you buy a new pot I would suggest a bigger pot.
I've been waiting on this haul. I can't wait to hear yours and Dans evaluation of the challenge. I've really enjoyed this pantry challenge and all that I've learned from others like you Chelsea. Ty.
Switch the pots! The white for the one on top of the cabinet. Right now, from the angle we saw it from, the plant and the pot just blend in. If you put th vining plant in the white pot it should help it pop 😊
I love the light pouring into your living room and the new furniture. So light, bright and cheery! I must have missed it but did you buy a ton of fresh fruits and veggies from Costco? I am sure you did.
I made homemade ketchup last summer. I threw everything in my Nesco roaster with all of the ingredients and simmered for 12 hrs or so. It tastes just delicious.
I love how the plants draw your eye around the room, and that little pop of nature inside. Just double check that the varieties you have aren't toxic for the kitty.
Have you ever made fermented mayo with the juice of fermented sauerkraut? Most people use the juice of store bought sauerkraut. The mayo does not take on the flavor of the kraut but the mayo will last in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks❤
If you add some kombucha 1Tablespoon to you mayo and leave it on your counter, it ferments it and will last up to 90 days. There are recipes online. I do the one when you add all your ingredients in a wide mouth jar and use the immersion blender.
I make my own mayonnaise. 1tsp Dijon mustard to each egg yolk. Salt & Pepper. Hand whisk the oil in very slowly with a fork. Finish off with 1 tbsp red wine vinegar right at the end to stop the action. (Note no lemon juice 😁)
Where did you get that coffee table that rises up to be more of a desk? It's beautiful! I also am finding myself wanting to beautify my spaces more now that I don't have Barbies and blocks all over the floor every year.
Your hall looked great. I see you got 2 jars of vanilla. You need to make your own. Very easy and goes a long way a much stronger and better than any store bought.
Your living room is so gorgeous! I love it. Maybe consider a more vividly colored plant pot, possibly a taller plant in it, on your hearth? I love house plants. I bought a cheap tiny fiddle leaf fig at trader Joe's years ago and it got so big that I've cut it and propagated new stems from it. it's a very easy plant to grow and looks very striking. It gets tall.
When you use light olive oil for the homemade mayo you don't taste the olive oil, but the avocado oil should work too!, when I first made it I did the same thing, too strong with regular olive oil. Wondering if you like to grow paprika to make your own? I've been thinking of growing things like that as well, could also grow red pepper spice too! Nancy from nebraska
I love black olives as does my 2 year old granddaughter. She eats them every day with her lunch, usually with houmous on the side. Try marinating them in a little olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic and mixed herbs. Works well with green olives too.
If you boil your eggs for 60 seconds which reduces bacteria in the raw egg, your mayo will last longer. I use raw egg in my Caesar salad dressing and use this method as per my very old recipe and have kept the dressing in a jar in the fridge for a couple weeks.
New to your channel I'm really enjoying it! I love that your in BC.We are on Vancouver Island. Also, Costco is my favorite place to shop. That Cherry berry frozen fruit is my favorite!
You’re right! Ketchup can be super time consuming to make and can. A few years back I found a recipe at Reformation Acres and it is a game changer. You cook your tomatoes, onions, and garlic in a crock pot to draw out the liquid. Then proceed with the recipe. You don’t have to spend hours cooking it down. I then can the “juice” I from the cooking process and use it in chili or soup. Amazing!
Was watching one of your videos the other night and you happened to mention a few of your cookbooks were on Amazon. I quickly switched to Amazon and they had 5 left, now 4🤗 I got mine yesterday!!🇺🇸😎
We make won ton soup and put the rooster noodles in that instead of doing traditional won tons we use the filling as meatballs and then the noodles. *I can it as well without the noodles in it obviously and the kids love using it for a quick lunch**
Good job. I only did the pantry challenge for about 5-6 weeks although I continued with my meat supply for the two months. It was satisfying going through my stores. It was the produce that got me too.
Hi Chelsea... M Bf used to have aute shapped cookware set like yours.. And I Believe she got them from Pampered Chef.....does that ring a Bell? She got them like 15-20 yrs ago.
I realize you have a large family and bought a lot of clothing and household items too but I still choked when you said the total and I had to back up and watch again to make sure I heard correctly. 😮
Nice haul loved it. You made me smile so hard haaa with the rearange the plants. I do exactly the same thing. The living room is so cozy and beautiful. loved this hugs
I'm not a decorator and also recently thinking of a more pleasant environment in my living areas, but I had this immediate reaction, when you put the new plant on the end of the mantle (shelf above fireplace in case the word is different): right plant, wrong pot, and that's what you came around to that shortly after. Have a great evening!
Chelsea your home is beautiful .. it’s so inviting with how bright it is.. and your colors you use are so soft and warm… I was saying out loud.. put the plant on the hearth.. but I love it on the mantel just as much!! Your mayo looks so good and so easy.. I’m going to try it! Also I was wondering if you use white sugar or the organic sugar.. which is kind of beige color.. I’ve seen it at Costco but not sure if taste or baking with it would be any difference that one would notice? I’m sure you don’t have time to answer everyone’s questions.. so if anyone who knows the answer would let me know I would appreciate you sharing what you know! 🫶🏻☀️🫶🏻

For the white pot, you can spray paint it. There are great textured paints and some can make the pot look like stone.

I absolutely love your living room and kitchen redo 🤩 Happy you get to eat salad again!!! Looking forward to your assessment of the pantry challenge!
Your home is beautiful now! Congratulations on the fact your children are older now and you can keep nice things. Soon the Grandchildren will come!
My grandson was over on Sunday and I was reminder how quickly they can make.a mess, but I don’t mind. Easy enough to clean up when they go home! Lol

Glad you put that plant back up on the fireplace on the right side. I was yelling from my chair put it back there. That’s the spot.
I like a plant on the fireplace mantel
I see I’m not the only one who’s husband snuck things in to the buggy 😂 I’m looking at you pistachios

Good choice of putting plants
Wow! Lindsay olives. I grew up in Lindsay. That olive plant, when it was still in operation, would stink up the whole town. I do miss it. Blessings
Like the pickle factory in South Haven, Michigan.
I love how the plants draw your eye around the room, and that little pop of nature inside. Just double check that the varieties you have aren't toxic for the kitty.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I did some research a while back and was surprised at how many common houseplants may be harmful to pets.
I like your living room layout! Looks nice!
Thank you Chelsea for the ranch dressing recipe.
Have you ever made fermented mayo with the juice of fermented sauerkraut? Most people use the juice of store bought sauerkraut. The mayo does not take on the flavor of the kraut but the mayo will last in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks❤

You did well with your shop, the prices do look a bit better. I really like all the sun and brightness in your living space now , very uplifting.
I love your coffee table/desk! Where did you get it?
Your living room area looks so cozy😊
Great video! Living room is beautiful!! Gonna say it again, love the new intro!!
I’ve been making my salad dressing from homemade yogurt. Just add some garlic powder and dill.
The way you pronounce pecan is the way everyone in the world except some people in the US pronounce it.😊❤

I love the new furniture. I think the fireplace needs plants or pillows or both for color.
She said in a response to another person that she got the table/lift desk at City Furniture. I hope that helps you 😊
Your channel is very nice, no drama or BS or fake news thank you....
In Belgium is the food cheaper, but clothing is more expensive (sometime 3x the prices that you mentioned). Thanks for sharing this.

Haha, I saw that too!

After 2 months of eating from your pantry, I bet you've never enjoyed a shopping trip more! Well done :)

Looks great w/3 in a row , pretty house.
Your plants are beautiful as long as the kitties leave them alone😂..
Plants 👏👏👏
