Hey guys! Thanks for watching! This video was a nightmare to make, but it was brought on after years of watching people excuse DC's decisions with this character with "well, she sells..." when I knew full well she didn't I know that there are flaws in this video since I was learning as I went so bare with me. There's places where I thought I could've presented my research better, but I still feel really accomplished getting this done. Now I can get to all the other projects that were getting held up thanks to this project.
every new version of her is either "hey you remember jokers girlfriend, yeah they broke up, she's doing her own thing now, but look there is joker" or turning her into a deadpool like character that's super skilled (like the "she's as good as batman" thing)
The thing about Harley Quinn is that since she is a tough character to break down because Paul Dini, her creator, crafted her with so many layers that it's hard to actually get to the bottom of what makes her tick. She's clearly a very broken person who has this weird abusive relationship with The Joker, her romantic object of affection. Dini always wrote that relationship with realistic nuance; Joker cares about Harley Quinn in the weird way that he can care about anyone, but he's also verbally abusive and physically violent toward her. Harleen Quinzel, the psychiatrist tasked with analyzing The Joker, develops a weird, destructive attraction to her patient, and the submission that leads to her becoming Harley Quinn is more tragic than anything else. It's not in a show like Bluey where the characters are simple yet easy to follow. No, it's not like that or the fact that Harley isn't really the best role model for kids, there's a goodness at the heart of the character buried under all the psychological damage. Like some of the best Batman characters (including Batman himself), she's damaged, and that damage is what makes her interesting. Also, Harley Quinn was always a little sexy, but she was sexy in the old femme fatale way, with her demeanor and her innate cuteness playing in direct contrast to her murderous tendencies. So it's strange that my favorite DC character has been treated by DC to be their Pikachu with a crap ton of merchandise they make, or even have a Deadpool-esque persona when they could've just used Lobo. I LOVE the Batman franchise and its characters, but DC, as every company is these days, didn't really exactly understand Harley as much as the real fans or even Timm and Dini.
I feel Harley is going is sadly falling into a traps many fan favorite characters fall in where they’re used because popular not because they always fit, and with how political everything is it SUCKS to see her get caught in the crossfire when she was fine. know it’s all business to them if an asset makes good money they will use it regardless even if they change some of the core elements. But it’s gotten to the point she doesn’t even feel like herself most of the time. I feel that’s why Gotham Knight Harley is being well received because she feels more in character. And is crazy without being a looney tune.
Harley Quinn is the perfect example of how to burn out a character with too much, too fast. DC saw she was popular, then pushed her, and pushed her, pushed her some more, then some more. I started seeing her as overused as Batman and every DC fan knows how much DC overuses Batman. I don't know if the character can ever recover. I kinda doubt it.

For me personally, they stripped away the most interesting parts of the character, turned her into a new version that is just dishonest to her origin and to basic common sense, and then shoved the lesser version into everything they could and then made her a focus over other characters I find more interesting. It’s not beyond fixing, but they’d have to have the self-control to scale her back a lot and return her to her roots, neither of which they have any interest in doing.
I think the desire to make Harley Quinn a protagonist is what spoiled the fun. Seeing her with the bat family (and even the Justice League?!) is so surreal. As a protagonist in the spotlight, they sanitized her. she's not allowed to be bad anymore, they act like she's supposed to be a role model for moral goodness and healthy relationships when her whole premise was the fact that she was a colorful villain who was romantically obsessed with someone who was even worse than herself.
Harley Quinn was never better than back when she was the Joker's moll. Modern DC pretty much ruined her entire character. Now she's pretty much been reduced to lesbian roller derby reject Deadpool clone.

@ Emilia Agree, but its often are people (casuals) who dont read the comics. They say they are fans of a character, but they are fan (which even is en overstatement) of an appearance a character made in video game/movie. And thats where their "fandom" 99,99% of the time remains, since they dont buy any merch or look deeper into a character. Harley is fine in small doses as a sorta sexy but broken villain. Maybe even as someone who is trying to redeem herself after a moment of clarity for all the horror she let loose and trying to heal her mind. But the cartoon cutsie, over sexualized, unbeatable, psycho, antihero, Deadpool imitation stuff ain't working. The last person I saw wearing Harley cosplay was a 280 pound guy in his late 30s. I think it's time to let her character cool off for a while and when DC reboots again ( it's going to happen in some form or another and sooner than we think) bring her back closer to her original TAS version.
Great video. I don't think anyone has come close to handling her as well as Paul Dini. She really should have had her live action debut in a Batman movie as Joker's girlfriend/henchwoman but they jumped the gun like most of the DCEU stuff.

Now she acts even worst than Joker in some cases. So glad that Harvey's background is still not ruined completely and he still in most cases a Tragic Character unlike Harley now
Fantastic video! It shows that a "synthetic" hype doesnt make money in sales. Yeah, she is popular and her series and her forced relationship with Ivy pleased the LGBTQ, but that doesn´t provide more comic buyer. This was very interesting...My guess is that Harley doesn't have clear goals to be a main lead...She can be the star of stories of getting over the joker or being in love with Ivy from time to time...But that is about it. I can't believe I'm saying this but Harley Quinn has a very good Redemption story. She went from a popular Supervillain to a character that is treated like a Superhero. This character is probably one of the first to have this happen to them. It's clear DC comics wants Harley Quinn to be a good guy but I think they are pushing her too much and in the wrong way. You also have fans who want her to stay as a villain. This character has a interesting history. The problem is DC is trying to turn her into a Female Deadpool and that is what's hurting the character. Her TV series is foul, rude and just gross, making Harley Quinn look more like Deadpool or something. I think DC comics needs to make her act like Classic Harley Quinn but with a redemption story showing her change from a villain to Superhero. That is what the DC writers want but unfortunately they turned Harley Quinn into a Crazy Bisexual Deadpool.
#jesterBell on the movie side they fucked up Harley in the birds of prey movie not sure why that movie was even made and who was it for first of all they wanted to have a Harley break up but the fact Harley and joker haven't been in that universe LONG enough to Break up made no sense and the fact instead of having someone like VIXEN they race replace BLACK canary to say LOOK LOOK we have diversity

I am just tired of DC being R-rated. Superheroes are literally the most family friendly medium I can think of because they are meant to be role models, but rather than that Superman family cartoon heavily featuring the Super Sons, we end up getting more R-Rated cartoons. I am fine with those existing, just please make content for the family again. But this is just my opinion.
Margot Robbie nailed the character. Why Debbie´s costume? Sex sells. HQ was also well written in the IJ2 video game. In addition her wacky animated show is hilarious! A must watch. And yes, looking into the camera would help a lot.
@UC4sikiNOtRkrTXa-EEPL2aA Jesus Christ! HQ´s costume was inspired by Debbie´s attire. Watch the video entirely next time before commenting. You made a fool of yourself. LOOOOOOL!

Definitely not lol
Please watch and share the video I worked super hard on it for a month lol
@@realjesterbell will do❤️👍
This sums up the Digimon franchise losing popularity in the West. That’s actually pretty depressing.
From what I can tell, Margot Robbie is who it was for! That's the problem with it; it's a vain ego trip.
I'm. The. Biggest. Harley. Quinn. Fan
I enjoy your content, but I think it's a mistake to actually show yourself reading your own script. Maybe memorize a paragraph here or there if you want to appear on screen?
The Harley Quinn show is possibly the best animated supe show ever. Also, great video--earned a new sub :)
Very interesting
Dr jax:They really need to canceled the harly quinn show off of hbox ( FR ) this whole sex thing of harlyivy has gone too far! 😠 and poison ivy is still my dream girl/past wife of mine! And i wont give up on loving ivy! I mean it guys! God will save poisonivy from sin!
Harley. Quinn is. Best. Chacter. To. Sell

LOOOOOOL!
The original Harley Quinn is the only Harley Quinn i Support and like. I hated Suicide Squad and every modern Version of her. The Character is strong but needs to be written right. Arleen Sorkin and BTAS should be used as an inspiration.
