I feel the same way. It takes me weeks just to learn easy effects like masking. Then when I do it, I never remember it all. I always have to watch the tutorial again to do it.
I’m still learning, but I gotta say, compared to last year? Blender is so much less daunting now that I’ve been using it whenever I have time. I’ve gone from looking up keyboard shortcuts to modelling on the fly. Still got a long way to go, but you can learn it too, once you get past a certain stage everything becomes easier
@@joshdiditt The real question is how much time you are spending on the software. I personnally started 8 months ago with an average 20-25 hours of practice per week and i was not particularly impressed by this tutorial, it is just good use of basic tools.
YES!!! Man, I've been watching Film Riot for about 10 years, I've learned so many effects and techniques from you guys, and I've been using Blender for about 3 years so seeing you touch more on Blender is SO fire! Please keep these coming!🔥🔥🔥
My jaw was actually dropped for a big chunk of this tutorial. This is so in depth and teaches so many things from basic to advanced topics without being a mind-numbing lecture. Amazing tutorial!
“Topology… vertices… modifiers… meshes… nodes…. and renders”, if this tutorial was made a year earlier I would have punched my iPad straight off my bed but I finally reached a point where I understood every bit of it and could probably recreate this (with the help of the pause button). I would’ve never dreamed of doing this, I’m glad you guys are helping with this journey. It’s actually fun to learn and do but I definitely need a beefer machine.
I think its good for the blender community to be getting tutorials like this since it has historically been the realm of amateurs. It may not seem like it but this is kind of the basics. But once you know the basics the world is open to you, the only limit is your creativity. All advanced techniques are usually just creative ways to use the basics together in new and interesting ways
@@Ben-rz9cf Definitely. I started out creatively as an illustrator and musician and you learn that mastering the fundamentals is key. After that it's your creativity that will push you forward and help build your style.
@@antoniocarbajal6248 Lol, it's hard to learn the skills that'll land the job that will earn the salary to get the machine to learn the skills to land the job... But I keep plugging away
I don't know a lot about 3D CG - there's soo much to learn. But what I know so far, I learned in Blender (for free). Otherwise, I was not ready to make a $3600 commitment before knowing if I'd even be interested. So glad they're around. Thanks for this tut.
It is all stuff you can learn online for free but there is a reason people pay tens of thousands of dollars for a 4 year degree in it, there is a lot to digest. In college we basically had 2 years of just intro courses since each section of a 3d software deserves it's own course of study
@@Ben-rz9cf I absolutely agree. I would love to attend courses and personally interact with instructors, etc. But I have to eat. Biology is funny that way. So, I must piece together my knowledge with tutorials and such. But, one needs the the software with which to practice. My '$3600' was in reference to that. Blender provides a broke bloke like me with the software for free. I'm grateful to them for that.
You could have done the breathing animation on the tongue with a wave modifier set to "along normals" instead of messing with shape keys and the animation keys for that.
That’s thanks to all VFX artists who pioneered and decided “let’s ask some mathematicians and computer engineers to make programs to make these WAY easier ☺️”
True that!! I uploaded my version yesterday, which was an unreachable thing 20 years ago and now I could do one in a few hours haha. The make up is harder tho😂😂
Amazing! Mask is one of the best classics I grew up on.Yay a blender tutorial! Its pretty advanced..good job to that guy that did all that., is it gona be a part of the pipeline now? I'd love to see blender being utilized more for its capabilities.
Wow! I consider myself a blender artist and this goes above and beyond what I can do on my own. A little humbling, thanks for the tutorial and keep it up!! I'm loving the VFX stuff.
Cool!!! Amazing!!!! Can also create comedy movie with vfx. I wish to see this contents even in the future. Goodluck!!!! Let imagination win with comic sense!!!
Thanks! The mouth has less blue light because the body is blocking that light from hitting most of it. But I think you’re right in that the blue light isn’t blue enough! It should’ve been more saturated. Too late to fix that now I suppose, haha.
Film Riot was the reason I started making videos (and fell in love with After Effects) back in 2013. Now I just got a job as a 3D Animator transitioning to working with Blender. I'm loving these new Blender tutorials guys. Keep it up!
Awesome tutorial. Can we now get the English version.
What do you mean
😂😂🏋🏾♂️
@@kingxworld5363 it means that they want the simplified/non difficult version
U mean this is Chinese version? You pipo.. 😁
the fact that he added the grain at the end just made it match so much better
added? doesn't blunder render noisy images by default?
How do people learn a program this good ….honestly always blows my mind, Blender is not easy at all. And doing this must have took days..amazing
1. Film school
2. Maya and Houdini are way more complex to learn

This was solid. Thanks!
Just watching this tutorial made my mouth drop to the floor without using any animation.
Both inspirational and intimidating for a beginner
Whenever you guys use blender, it's just.... *Chef kiss*

Oh Gosh, I've been looking for this effect
Well, thanks to both you and the Nostalgia Critic, I have revisited _The Mask,_ which I hadn't seen in at least 3 years.
My jaw was actually dropped for a big chunk of this tutorial. This is so in depth and teaches so many things from basic to advanced topics without being a mind-numbing lecture. Amazing tutorial!
yay, Blender tutorials from Film Riot!!
This is mind blowing!
Yes. It's an exciting time!
Do you understand what he did with camera track section? I don't get it.
Es increíble ver como los efectos usados décadas atrás superan los efectos actuales incluso cuando usan modernos programas de animación
It's so weird that I've been here since almost the beginning of the channel. Great job man!
Ok, that's some masterfull CG! Great tutorial and great to see it using Blender
Film Riot putting Blender Tutorials? i never saw this coming haha! but i'm glad.
Piece of cake. Only 10 years of work and your jaw will drop.
This channel have the best vfx!! 🔥👏🏻
And now we want a tutorial of the Transformation effects from The mask! 🌪

Same!! I still need a graphics card to, you know, spend less than six months rendering, but I'm getting there :D

Thanks! The mouth has less blue light because the body is blocking that light from hitting most of it. But I think you’re right in that the blue light isn’t blue enough! It should’ve been more saturated. Too late to fix that now I suppose, haha.
