Fantastic review! This has to be the most thorough and detailed review on the Reolink 511WA and software applications. I would even say this review was probably the best product review I had ever seen on RUclips. IMO, this is how you do a product review video. The video answered a lot of my questions and demonstrated a "walk-thru" tour of the features. Excellent job mostlychris!
Hi Chris - I know this is an older video but wondered if you could comment on what you do (have to do) within the Reolink client app to set things up to work as well as possible with Frigate? For e.g. As you said regarding motion detection etc. all of that is handled by Frigate, so do you therefore just ignore those settings in the client app? I'm trying to make sense of what I need to do in the client on a 'set and forget' basis so I can focus on Frigate's config.
Thanks Chris, for detailed presentation and hard work put behind. It's very helpful as I have wanted to know more about this camera model and your video did a great job and also Dlink should thank you for this too in mu opinion. Also the point that you made between 15fps and 30fps respectively with people/vehicle detection and many more was handy.
How can i install the camera WITHOUT connecting a LAN cable? If the cameras are installed and there is a problem with wifi i have to put all the cameras down to reconnect to the new wifi or may i dont have a LAN installation. In one house i want to use the camera with a smartphone hotspot and cant connect to LAN.
Hi. I love your videos. I noticed that in your frigate config, you're using the main stream for detect and then the sub stream for record? isn't that backwards?
Thanks Chris for this amazing and detailed video. I have a question. If you set the Zoom to a certain level, does it stays like that or is just momentary on the live view? If it stays, is that the area that gets recorded?
I am also looking for this camera. For me is the most important that person detection works perfect and I am not getting false alarms because of the clouds/sun and flying bugs... How this function works?
I think you are asking result. For WiFi cameras, I would buy. However, each person's needs will be different. I use Frigate NVR for my person detection so that I can fine tune and prevent falses.
Yes. Your software on the computer just takes a stream from the camera and you would set it up to record on the computer, assuming the software you use can do that.
Hey is there any possibility to control routines from google with tags scanned in home assistant? somehow connecting in node red or something ... I don't want to play with a paid subscription or something .. somehow I wanted to get around it ... by the way it's a pity that google home does not offer its own reading of NFC tags regards.
If you are running the HA app, HA can act on tags you scan. I don't think it needs a subscription to anything. You set up an automation to do something when a tag is scanned. I actually have a tag do something using Node Red.
I've got a couple of Reolink RLC-511 cameras waiting to be installed , got a poe switch coming by post , been using a tp-link tapo c310 just to get frigate tested out . Because the audio of that camera uses alaw which needs be converted to aac , that take 20% cpu and the whole home assistant and saving the video stream to disk only takes 4% of the cpu , Can't wait until the silicon shortage gets fitted so I can get a tpu for the object detection .
That sounds pretty CPU intensive. I was able to find a TPU in the UK. Had it shipped to the US in about 3 days. They are out there in some places. Just don't get scalped by those charging double and triple the price.
@@mostlychris I can't see anywhere with the usb tpu's in stock in the UK, I think that is why the scalpers know they can get away with charging £150 to £200 for a £60 item. If you see one let me know , but I can give you a list of stores which I've added my e-mail address to the notify list .
How good is the motion detection? BI has issues with Reolink cameras because of key frames not as fast as BI wants. My RLC-520's work fine with Milestone xProtect.
@@mostlychris looking at the frigate.yml that you are showing on screen at 43:28 it looks like you assigned the detect role to the (high res) main stream and the record role to the (low res) sub stream. shouldnt it be the other way around?
Hi Chris, great vids! I have a question about cameras. I have a dahua xvr, I’m able to load them into home assistant and I am able to display them in cards but the quality is not what I expected. Is there a way to change the image quality setting?
@@mostlychris Thanks for replying. I am using the dahua integration and I am using the picture glance card. I am using the mains, but quality is meh! I thought I would be able to enhance the quality in the raw editor?
the day shots look good but the night time is not so good at all. Too much white outs and not fast enough to make out cars passing by. They need improvements in night quality. How many FPS at the highest setting?
Hello Chris. your video's are ferry Good !! Do you have anny experience with HIKVISION Camera's. I have DS-2CD2722FWD-IZS. Can I use it in a privat network ? I'm living in the Netherlands.

hey chris, i believe the text on camera box says "dark does not equal to black and white" as in it doesnt have to be black and white, meaning they have colored night vision mode. btw, that looks like a decent camera.

Awesome video. Has really helped inform my choice on which camera route to go as I begin my CCTV journey. 🙂
I have 3 of these Cams, 1 is a doorbell, all work perfect 100% all the time with no issues, I am using synology video for the recording though.
great reviev, Im interested in this camera, could you tell me how many days will it record on 128GB SD card on highest video settings? +/-
I got this camera a few days..it is really clear and night color is amazing....I use to think BLINK was good.lol
The sensor in it works well in low light situations for sure. Makes it nice for night color vision.
cant read you the license plate on your neighbors car, if you download the video is it readable?
Could the wash out be due to the angle of and if you were up higher it would be less wash out?:
What a great review...Very through and easy to follow...
Thanks so much!

I haven't had any issues with detection, even in low light. It appears to pick it up without issue in Frigate. I haven't used it with BI.
Thanks for making this video.
Is the power supply 12v dc?
I think it is 9v @2A
does it stream continuously?
On frigate config h264Preview_01_main should not be added to record and h264Preview_01_sub on detect?

Is possible use on Alexa Eco Show 8?
Not sure. I don't have one of those to test.
Does this work with there solar panel?
It requires mains power (not POE) but if your solar panel can output the required voltage it might work.

I thought about that while I was editing the video. You are right. You don't have to sacrifice color when it is dark outside.
Does this reolink camera work with blue iris?
It should. I have used Riolink with BI in the past.
