I made a similar video at the end of 2023 to see if having an allotment was worth it in a monetary sense, and it was.
This year, however, I have gone further. I constructed a basic spreadsheet on which to record the value of crops harvested for our family use. I didn’t record the value of any crops given away to the neighbours, friend and family.

Wow, very impressive list of home and allotment grown veg and flowers, I would also add to the list the benefits of being out in the garden /allotment which we can't put a price to the best free therapy, happy 2025 gardening session Ian, all the best. Sam

Hi Sam. Hope you had a good Christmas and new year.
There is definitely a lot of benefit to being at the allotment for health but equally working there doesn’t help my back or hernia 🤣
I have focused on the financial side of growing as that tends to be an aspect often argued about, that it costs too much to grow your own food.
All the best for the weekend 🪴🌼
fascinating and inspiring, i will have to start doing this - if only to see how much we grow and use of different crops. it’s also probably a good reminder of how each year has been / different crops performance

Hi Claudia.
I must admit that keeping a better record of what vegetables we had was a real eye opener, especially in savings of not having to go to the supermarket.
With some better weather then I’m sure our family savings would be even greater.
I’m certainly planning to record my harvests each year.
Hope you have some good plans for your growing this year 🪴🧅🌸
I am certain that you saved vastly more in terms of future healthcare, over the counter medicine purchases and a happier, longer life. But that is hard to quantify

Hi Neil. Many thanks for watching and the message, much appreciated.
I’m hoping you are right that all the allotment work will be good for my future health as it hasn’t helped my back in the short term 🤣
I hope you have plans to grow plenty of your own food.
All the best 🪴🌶️🧅
