At Ems magnitude, he is what seems to be larger than life man so of course he cant go out and just battle MCs out the blue. Like Royce said that there are some things that Em wishes he could do what he used to like battle rap before he blew up but he just cant anymore. It just wouldnt make sense at his level of fame and fortune anymore. He is way bigger than battle rap itself!
Yup but you also have to acknowledge that there is a level of fear that you have to have to think that way. It is smart but if Em thought he could easily body some of these elite MCs like Lupe then there would be no need to worry about his level of fame. In reality there is that level of hesitation because the thought is the risk is not worth the reward. I think it’s less about his fame and more about the boggie man image that has rappers scared which he earned back then. Kinda like how Canibus had a certain image and took the risk and got smoked (although I would not imagine Em would ever go unprepared like that). Not sure if that makes sense but that’s how I look at it

I truly don't understand how everyone has interviewed Royce and mentioned him and Eminem's version of Renegade but no one tends to bring up how his initial Renegade verse was a heavy influence on Eminem's verse on Biggie's Dead Wrong. If you have not noticed this I would recommend giving both verses a listen side by side. Royce on Renegade (0:22 - 1:07) Eminem on Dead Wrong (3:23 - 4:10).

@Cerise Medina it's only because it would have to be a big enough of a name to make it worth it. Most of the country can't name 3 battle rappers. Way more people know who Royce is. So the effort he would hwve to put into battleing a battle rapper wouldn't be worth it. What most of them make for all their time and effort is chump change to someone who can make that performing 5 old songs in a venue, for a total of 2 hour of effort. Plus it just raises his competitors value. There isn't a battle rapper or industry rapper that doesn't know about Royce. It's the same exact reason some new battle rapper, has to put in a lot of work and earn a chance to battle a Murda Mook. Nobody gets to go right to Mook for their first battle and get all the benefits of the whole battle culture watching it. That type of recognition comes with ppl proving themselves and working their way up. Not one battle rapper will draw more eyes or revenue than Royce. Doesn't mean they aren't as good or better, but Royce would bring so many eyes that doesn't even follow battle rap. It's a different level of fame and popularity which means money. That amount of effort put into a song that he owns his masters for, can bring in publishing checks for the rest of his life, and then his kids lives, and so on. I've heard top battle rappers say the same thing about it having to make sense on the business end so it's not just my opinion
