Not a big fan of AmEx but love the heck out of Ellen. Any person who cherishes the lives of animals rather than does harm to them (hunters, testers, etc.) has the best soul and will be rewarded by going to a better place surrounded by animals. I'm going there. Anyone else?
It's what's called a "brand ad" -- it doesn't address specific features, benefits or offers, but helps establish or reinforce the essence of the brand itself. In this case, it leverages the appeal and humor of Ellen to draw a (loose) association to the versatility of The Card as well as how it "helps you achieve your dreams." Or at least that the kind of sanctimonious bullshit I often use in pitch meetings to explain concepts.

She is not funny. Just looking at her makes us sick. Everyone here hates her. I am a webmaster and I am terminating my contracts with amex for advertising banners on the websites I run and have already cancled my amex cards. She only goes over good in the cities the rest of the US hates her.

Love Ellen Degeneres and i absolutely loved this commercial, I saw primetime emmy's 2007 yesterday and the show of ellen in the middle of the show was great.
They do say its American Express right at the end but I think people associated these sorts of adverts with credit cards...its weird like that but it does work.
this really is one of the most clever and enjoyable commercials i've ever seen. a mix of obvious and subtle jokes, perfect editing, nice style... Ellen's expression at 1:03 is hilarious all by itself... oh and 1:35, she's gorgeous. i mean looka that smile :)
