He had untapped potential but his coaches never found the right role for him and then he killed his reputation with poor career choices, quite a waste.
It's easy to forget just how good Beckham was, but there are few if any people who could match him as a free kick taker. He had it all - power, precision, versatility and he could bend the ball brilliantly. He was also beautiful to watch, graceful with perfect technique. There are few athletes who look so effortless, while being so effective. Federer is one example, at his best he was sublime to watch.
