I'm trying to get into the industry, but I don't have the money to get my CDL independently, which I would like to do, but I also don't want to sign up with a shit company to get it either, like Swift. I may not have a choice though.

Hey, don’t laugh.. I had a swift driver ask me that same question, but he was 1000 over gross..told him he could take it back to the shipper, and get it right.. he said he’d left the night before and didn’t check his weight..was 300 miles away.. told him he could go around a few scales..he said that was illegal.. so I told him so is being 81,000 lbs..a buddy I was with, as a joke, told him he had 10 inside tires, and each one held 100 lbs of air, and if he let the air out of all 10, it would be 1000 and he’d be legal!! When we left the TS he was in the process of doing exactly that!!!!

The real fact is swift has one of the best safety records in the industry. There also one of the biggest companies so your gonna see more things like this. The reality is they have a very strict points program and the bad drivers don't last long with swift and are working for all the other companies it's just a fact. Very few companies will train and hire drivers with no experience they all start somewhere. I was new that was 30 years ago and still remember how hard it was my first load solo was Queens NY I got lost no nav just paper maps with no ac in August. We all start somewhere.
I wish more drivers would remember this I'm a new driver and I have a really hard time finding a company who will give me a chance vut I'm not giving up
Try FFE (Frozen Food Express) based out of Lancaster, Tx. I drive for them and they're really good. Doesn't hurt to try asking for a job with them

I don’t think it’s funny to record someone who has a bad day/poor training and laugh at them instead of going there and try to stop them or direct them. For me these videos make me be a safer driver, get out and check before backing out.

When I started in 86 it was JB Hunt and Schnider that caught hell.
When I worked for Walmart in the 80's, they contracted loads with JBH and Schneider. We had the most problems with Schneider drivers. Some of them made backing into the dock an adventure ;-D
Even with my limited truck driving experience (uhaul, farm etc), I don’t drive anywhere I don’t know I can get out from. I’ll stop and walk in to check it out if I have to. Same goes for backing up, get out and have a look before you hit something.

Swift gets paid by the government to train and hire new drivers. Their training program doesn't meet fmcsa regulations for over the road drivers. So you end up with a bunch of shit drivers in 80,000lb vehicles. Corrupt politicians combined with corrupt CEOs equals Swift drivers.

I now live in Oshawa but through the West or the GTA back to Detroit or Sarnia you will see them. There's not as many as there use to be up here but they're still up here. I've seen them on the 401, 402, 403 (other mountain) and QEW. I've only seen 1 that I recall on the 410.

Ahh, takes me back to the early 2000s when I was driving for Arrow Trucking. Ice storm in the Dallas metroplex. Swift driver going over a high rise onto I-635 N loses it at the top, shutting it down. And on the same morning, in Ennis, just south of Dallas on I-45 northbound feeder road, Swift driver decides to stop on the soft shoulder. Gets it stopped. Truck slowly slips sideways and lays on it's side. Gotta love it.

That one backing clip where he didn't have enough space in the front. There IS a way to do that. It's all about proper setup, and for God's sake I hope that isn't a public road. I went to Arka Express instead of U.S Xpress once. Had to do a similar maneuver on the blind side. I had to get out and look a few times but I basically one shotted the back in what looks to me like a much bigger space. It's all in the setup and technique. And this is coming from a self admitting mediocre backer. When it matters, I (as all truckers should) turn into one hell of a backer. Just takes practice, focus, patience, and knowing when to try again or try something else. Don't just keep forcing your way in to spaces you aren't going to make. The other day I was backing in a super tight spot. Made the rookie mistake of not thinking of everything. I hit the nose of the trailer on a part of fence that at first, I thought wasn't there. I was looking for about 5 or 6 minutes trying to figure out what the hell I hit. Then I noticed a small tab that jutted out from the fence. No damage to anything other then the tab. Still ended up with a preventable.

Something is back to front when it's cheaper to buy new trucks than to hire skilled drivers.
Why don't inexperienced drivers just go into the warehouse and ask someone to come out and spot for them?

I believe they are a huge company and hence they get noticed for everything that they do irrespective of how big or small the issue is. I also believe that issues like these keeps happening all the time as driving these huge semi trucks is not easy. Like this comment if you genuinely agree to the point I am making here.
