I have been in Medellin for the past 2 months and unfortunately this happens here quite a bit. In the last 2 months I know of at least 3 deaths and several druggings and robberies. My heart breaks for his family. RIP.

I have lived in Colombia with my wife a couple of times but I wasn't playing dating apps roulette. This guy was another beta male who went to Colombia for easy beautiful women, but you have to be smart about it. There are a lot of good women there and a lot of evil schemers. If she looks too good to be true, she probably is.

I am deeply sorry for what happened to this young man. You can travel safely in Colombia but there are some rules that must be followed:
Do not go out alone, or with people you do not know well. Especially at night.
Do not show that you have money, dress well but leave your watch, jewelry, camera and expensive things in the hotel. If you have an expensive cell phone, use it discreetly or in private.
Never leave your drink unattended while going to the bathroom, take it with you.
And the most important thing. Do not come with the mentality that Latin women are easy and dazzled by foreigners. It is a myth that can cost you dearly. If a woman is out of your league at home, she's probably out of your league abroad as well. Be extremely cautious, if you want to meet a girl, have a friend introduce her to you, never through an app.

What about not using dating app and meeting up in the middle of the night to score bases. Not just in Colombia, but anywhere in the world. Those type of murder or robbery via FB, craigslist, Tinder, IG, etc happen more often than it needs to.
This is the rule for actually every country and the main one is do not leave the tourist area if you're not from there I speak Spanish pretty well and my family is from Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic I do not leave the hotel area or the main town I'm in because I am really an easy target my Spanish is Americanized which is broken Spanish with a New York accent or New Jersey I don't know that's what people tell me

To be fair, there is a lot of stuff they can't say legally. To say they knew for sure could mess up a criminal case in the justice system when they find the suspects or the news station itself could get in trouble.

Been an expat for 10 years now. This is horrible, I used to live in Medellin and other cities around Colombia. You don't make friends with just anyone. Always have to be careful.

I was just watching something that happened to the gentleman who has the channel called ObiLand on youtube. He was drugged and robbed in Medellin by girls he met on tinder. He made a whole video on it. It's a huge problem there where these girls work together as a despicable ring of criminals to drug unsuspecting men with SCOPOLAMINE. So heartbreaking.

But there are also a large percentage who are just regular dudes looking for a date or even a lil action while on vacation, which is human and understandable. I’ve been living in Colombia for about 5 years now. 2 in bogota and 3 in Medellín. It’s really unfortunate what happened to this young man, fellow Titan here as well! Prayers to his family and I hope those involved are brought to justice.
People from medellin are not all bad, in fact they are extremely friendly. However there are some really shady women as well that work in groups. I hope the guys family finds some peace and really praying for them.

I’ve definitely run into people where right away I know that I need to split away from them the first chance I get. Whether it’s on the street, a taxi driver, at a bar.. wherever. Just like in the USA in a tough city, you don’t want to put yourself in situations where you are exposed to risk.
I followed a couple of RUclipsrs who traveled and gave you some travel tips and the one thing I remember when one of them went to Colombia was that you should go with caution. There’s many who might go to fool around with a girl thinking it’ll be easier or just have uncontrolled fun but he was mentioning how you can get drugged and either robbed or killed and sadly this seems to be the case for this man. Granted it’s not just Colombia a person should always be careful and cautious when traveling and even when traveling with friends or with “friends” cause look at what happens to that poor young woman in Mexico.

My friend Tou Ger Xiong was just kidnapped and killed about a week ago. He was lured by a girl who led him to gangsters. Tou Ger was a humanitarian, activist, comedian, and well respected by the Hmong community worldwide. He fought hard for justice, but also partied hard. His weakness was attractive Columbian women. We are all mourning his loss. Be careful out there everyone. Always have a travel buddy and meet in public places. Don't do dating Apps. So sad for the loss of this young man as well.

A friend of mine who lives in the US is originally from Colombia ,Bogota and even he was scared of going there after emigrating here many years ago.
He had to go back to Bogota to visit family or something and he was really nervous about going there.
Colombia is probably one of the most dangerous south American countries .
@Britt Scott: Colombia is much safer today in 2022 than it was in the 1990's. Medellin in particular was often described as a quasi-war zone in the early 90's at the height of the Medellin cartel. That said, today Medellin is one of the safer big cities in Colombia and safer than many cities in Mexico near the U.S. border. Medellin has transformed itself over the past 20 years from a crime haven to a favorite tourist spot within So. America. Of course, it is not Disneyland and increased tourism does lead to crimes of opportunities.
It is a tragic what happened to this young man but it is an outlier event. I am from the U.S. and have been to Colombia over 5 times in the last 10 years. Of course, one should always take care and be guarded when visiting Colombia...it certainly is not the danger zone you paint.

My friend and I vaca in Vietnam. He was approached by a very pretty girl. He is a 5 and she was a 10,in hot. They hung out after the club and went back to his room. That night while he was sleeping, the girl let her gang in and robbed him. They took everything from him. Luckily, they didn’t killed him. But we talked to the local police, they said it happens everyday. Some hotel now don’t let strangers in and all guest must show ID.

Most of you are not street wise, Medellin can be loads of fun and it's a lovely city, with loads to do and see, this said, only if you are with the right people and in the right places. These are mafias that utilize attractive women and even young girls, to attract people on the web, lure them here and then use Scopolamine or date drug to rob them, and sometimes even kill them. He is not the first, there is a long sad history in medellín of this type of crime. He was found in Robledo, and though there is genuinely good thriving hard working people in Robledo, it is a dangerous, high crime area. I'm going to be targeted for writing this, and it's probably a dangerous thing to do, but I really would love for this to be known and spread out as much as possible.

This is very sad. My condolences go out to the family. I also want to add that Colombia is a beautiful country to visit. I am currently there. I wouldn't recommend using those apps here.
The reality is that crime, scams, etc like this can happen in any country, including the one we come from. However, as a woman, I'm very conscious of my vulnerability so I'm extra cautious. I think men don't have to move about society fearful of their gender, so sometimes they let their guards down. Sadly, things ended badly for him. I hope they catch the killers.
This reminds me of online romance scams. A lot of people have very little self awareness and think this really attractive person who is out of their league will be interested in them and hence get scammed out of their money. This takes it to another level, instead of online, this is actually physical face to face interaction, but in the end , the same concept. If you cannot attract someone like this in your country, you sure will not attract one in a foreign land and if you do, be prepared to expect money is part of the motivation.

The scopolamine (may be a typo ) that they use to drug people is not an exact science. Sometimes it will incapacitate a person. Too much can kill a person. Like any other drug.
