Chris, just want to say thank you for your words of wisdom, the time and possible stress of making the educational videos that you put out on here. Others may have their own opinions, but to a lot of people it’s a life changer. I’m sure there are a lot of people who take the education from these videos, and put them to work for themselves.

I made my own years ago from a 5 gal bucket with a lid. One hole for a tight fit with my shop vac and another smaller hole for plastic tubing extending to the bottom of the bucket. (The vac just makes negative pressure to suck oil into the bucket not the shop vac) if I can get the bucket below the pan I can let it siphon overnight and don’t need to run the shop vac for more than necessary.

That must be Bullwinkle Jr! :) Glad to see the maintenance video! Food for thought, when B Jr was putting the two different size hoses together start one end into one hose and the other over the smaller hose, and lubrication is your friend! Spit is good! Also, the hose will loosen up a bit if chewed on a little bit. Been sucking engine oil out of stern drive boats for years, agree with your son, hang the hose and let it drain. Kudos, smart young man, must take after his Mom! ;)

Nobody likes to do it, but I guess that's why they call it preventive maintenance.?
Those Topsiders are just under $60 right now. That seems reasonable for what it does and the quality of it. Your son has a good point about using for boat motors and hard to get to places. It would be great for woods equipment, it would help keep oil off the ground when you change it or do maintenance in the woods.
Thank you for showing these devices.

Sons a ringer for you Chris - looks to be a solid guy too. Same dry sense of humour too. :-) A bit of heats your Pal when fitting up them hoses - warm them briskly & they co-operate betterer. Hot water/a gas torch work well... Them suckers are handy - save a lot of fooling about under stuff. I use one a lot. As another "Top Tip" - (work) if you forgot your brake bleeder, bang the hose of one of these over the bleed nipple & bingo - you just discovered the fastest/best brake bleeder yet invented.. :-) These cut ALL the mucking about out of bleeding brakes - little known "Hack" for these. Pedal down, sucker sucking & all the air goes bye-bye in a shot/ Handy if you just drained all the fluid out of a system (also using one of these... & need to replace it with fresh but aren't in the mood for an hours shouting at your Pal to "Press & hold" blah blah.. and still getting a spongy pedal... Nah - reach for your sucker. Jobs now a 2 minute affair. Pedal down, open nipple...SCHLOORP... onto the next corner.

Don't know about you but I don't trust any oil change that doesn't involve a drain plug. A proper drainage takes all the bits and crud with it, in my opinion. Sadly, newer lawnmower engines do not have a proper drain plug anymore because most people don't know how to change oil the old-school way. But if these oil change gadgets suck up all the scumm off the bottom that would drain out in a proper oil change, then is an easier and cleaner things.
