    Words:
Alas my love, you do me wrong
    To cast me off discourteously
For I have loved you well and long
    Delighting in your company
    Greensleeves was all my joy
    Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of gold
And who but my lady Greensleeves
Your vows you’ve broken like my heart
Oh,why did you so enrapture me
Now I remain in a world apart
And my heart remains in captivity
    Greensleeves was all my joy

    Ah,Greensleeves,not farewell,adieu

For I am still thy lover true

Could you explain her story to me? I hadn't heard of her

    • @knightofetro13
      @knightofetro13 5 лет назад +212

She was the second wife of King Henry VIII and mother to the future Elizabeth I. The king fought the Church of England so he could divorce his first wife, Katherine of Aragon, to marry Anne after she continually turned down his advances and told him she would not be with him until they married. So he broke off from the church and created (if I remember this correctly) the Protestant faith and married Anne. She was crowned queen and Henry wanted a son but Anne was unable to give him one, so like the fat bastard he was, turned his attention elsewhere while Anne was charged with adultery, incest, and witchcraft three to four years after she was crowned. The king had her beheaded so he could move on to poor Jane Seymour and marry her. Elizabeth was only two when this happened, and I find it extremely ironic the heir he so desperately wanted ended up being her. Anne left a lasting mark on history long after her death, to rising as a queen to her forced downfall by the very man who tore everything apart to marry her. She lived on through Elizabeth who is remembered as one of England’s greatest monarchs.

Just a quick example from Wikipedia:
"There is a persistent belief that Greensleeves was composed by Henry VIII for his lover and future queen consort Anne Boleyn.[5] Boleyn allegedly rejected King Henry's attempts to seduce her and this rejection may be referred to in the song when the writer's love "cast me off discourteously". However, the piece is based on an Italian style of composition that did not reach England until after Henry's death, making it more likely to be Elizabethan in origin."

What would Henry Viii think about the Daughter of Anne Bolyen. She eventually became the greatest
    Monarch we have ever had.

He'd have hated it. He was insistent that only a man could be his successor, enough that to avoid having a female successor he made sure that all his female children were made bastards by law and ignored while any male bastards (born from mistresses and with no chance to inherit the throne) were all elevated to lordships and acknowledged.
He treated his daughters like crap, so he would have probably been pissed that both daughters born from his most headstrong Queens/the Queens who had the most opportunity to stand up against his bullying (katherine due to age, law in her being his original queen, and having more experiance, ann because personality. Ann's death was used as a constant threat to other queens to not stand up for themselves) were the most successful. Both Mary and Elizabeth took their mothers fates less as a warning to not piss off henry, and more as an example of how to behave.
