Is Justin Jefferson contract hesitation bait for a draft trade? | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc - Спорт
If Vikings are thinking of doing something to get trade value from Jefferson and Bengals 1st rd pick at 18,,, who’s to say they wouldn’t take the 18 and then other picks (Bengals have 10 picks this year) give them the extra 3rd pick too could even add in another player possibly but then they would have 2 1st picks to gamble to move up a few spots to get their QB… wild but it’s def intriguing & it wouldn’t surprise me these days
How far did Calvin Johnson take Detroit?
Agreed......Name a team to win the Super Bowl in the past 15 years with a TOP 5 PAID WR?
They should've traded him yesterday early in the draft
@@nomadkeller8612Chiefs , Tyreek Hill
Just few months ago we were arguing if Williams or Maye is 1st. Now we are putting Williams in the same group as Allen and Mahomes?
I watched only 2 games...yes only 2...so a small sample size. But man Caleb SUCKS!!! This guy will be such a Manziel or like Rozen story. He will do NOTHING and be forgotten in 2 years and just remembered for being a BIG bust. Please mark this comment with dates and everything and let's talk in 2 years about it again
Florio out of ideas again.
Why is Florio yelling at the Vikings? They literally said they want to pay him like one of the best non QB’s in the league. At what point do we start to suspect maybe JJ’s asking price is a bit outrageous?
Exactly! That's why I think they should consider trading him for that exact reason. I would gladly take #2 pick this year and a first or second next year for JJ. You get the right QB and you won't even miss JJ. You have a Hockenson, Addison, Jones, Chandler.. go draft a couple of more solid receivers and you're on your way.
@@1WhoSeesAllI guess the issue is why pay him when they don't have a QB either
@@jacobsims8307 that's why you don't pay him and go get your franchise QB. Receivers are much easier to replace than a QB.
@@1WhoSeesAll I would agree. Those spots for top picks all need QBs.
@@1WhoSeesAllokay… then trade him lmao
You never trade a young proven elite player for an unknown.
A QB ? WRs don’t win you SBs
Hope he is traded on draft nite...not worth the money. No receiver ever won a championship
Rice lol maybe the best one
@@shanechristopherson7582 The won 2 before he got there! But he def helped win 3 more
Many many dozens of receivers have won a championship.
@@shanechristopherson7582 rice only won a SB because Montana and Bono were throwing him the ball. It's about the QB not the WR.
There's Rice, Irvin, Bruce, Holt, Harrison, Wayne, Hill....to name a few, but we get your point lol.
JJ to Bengals, please. The trio of Burrow, Justin, and Ja'marr together again. Trade T-Higgins + 1st round pick from Bengals.
SOLD
That's quite the overpay
Explain how they pay all 3 n keep 53 man roster and compete?? Please🤣🤣🤣
You people who think this is going to happen with the Bengals need to put down the crack pipe. The owner ship at the Bengals is way to cheap to even dream about this happening lol
If they can't afford to pay Higgins what makes you think they can pay JJ. 🤔
Why does Florio act like the team is the only factor in a contract negotiation? MAYBE he doesn't want to play for Minnesota long-term at any cost?
I seriously doubt that
@@Izthefaithful The point is it takes 2 sides to work out a contract. Idiot Florio is acting like it's just the Vikings.
@@TristanandIsolt yup
If I were Jefferson I’d be waiting until the other wrs started getting their money. Hes better than all of them, so why not see what the top pay looks like.
It’s sad how the media just create storylines that are frivolous. This stuff is ridiculous! Why isn’t anyone talking about Michael Penix Junior?
The NFL is built to be entertainment and drama. Profootballtalk is not traditional "media" in the sense I think you are implying. Their business is not covering the news, but their business is also based on speculation and the NFL is designed to generate this kind of "buzz", drama, and speculation. PFT is merely an agent of the entertainment business, they are not media in a news sense.
Minnesota needs so much, I don’t think trading him for a couple firsts instead of paying him 32-35mil is a terrible idea. You can turn that trade into 3-4 great players down the road.
I find it interesting that so much attention is on QBs in the first round, when so many of the great QBs were not picked in the first round.
Some people say defense wins championships. Some people say the run game is the bread and butter of dominance. Some people say a pocket passer is better than a mobile QB. NOBODY ever says a great WR carries a team to a Lombardi.
There's an arms race between three WRs on who's getting paid more. None of the three wants to accept the first deal and be out done. It's literally that simple. Stop playing drama queen.
I had no idea that JJ was so old he would be past his prime by the time a QB is in theirs... I thought he was about to turn 25 in a few months....
he is about to turn 25 in a few months wtf
I think Warren Moon, Jeff George and possibly Brad Johnson were close to franchise level QB's for the Vikings, and Kramer is overlooked, his injuries didn't help out his legacy. Remember he threw 6 TD's in 3 quarters before being pulled vs the Packers in 86 and led the league in passing that season over Marino and Montana
Justin Jefferson, lack of Touchdowns... Unload the salary, grab a fresh WR in the draft.
Florio is a certified drama queen
He's not wrong. Kwesi drags his feet, costs the Vikings football club money against the cap. He did it with the Hockinson deal.
@@thomaspower221 he's dragging his feet because he's doing his job by trying not to overpay players?
@@thomaspower221 by every account we've heard so far, is been Jefferson's team that's holding up this deal.. Not Kwesi
If the Vikings don’t have “The QB”, they shouldn’t waste money on a JJ contract. JJ won’t duplicate his production with a mid tier QB or a rookie QB.
I'm of the mindset of "if you do what you always do you'll get what you'll always get". Vikes trade Jefferson to AZ for #4 and take Marvin Harrison Jr. then trade #11 and #23 for Maye/McCarthy. Take a good RB later in the draft and you have opened a 3-5 year window with (potentially) JJ McCarthy, Harrison, Addison, Haukonson, young RB, and two studs at tackle. The savings realized between not paying Cousins and Jefferson build the defense and interior O-line thru FA.
IF they trade JJ for the #2 pick, the Vikings cannot be giving up anything else, in fact WAS should be kicking something more back to MN. JJ alone is worth more than a single first. Personally would prefer they draft McCarthy a little later and keep JJ.
If I am trading JJ to Washington for the #2 pick, it is just that, no additional compensation.
I'd get a 3rd rounder back, JJ for pick #2 and a 3rd round pick.
Coming off a major injury, it’s just plain stupid to pay a guy top of the market.
Vikings getting a quarterback this draft shows that they want to win now and also keep Justin happy. Would hate to see Justin not have many playoff experiences.
OMG. Been saying this for months. Two 1sts and next year’s 3rd for pick 5. JJettas for pick 4, even up. Draft QB4 and MHJr!! 🤯🤯
No point in having the receiver if you don't have the QB.
9:40 100% This is why Kwesi screwed this up. They might actually have to trade JJ now, because of this...
He’s holding out for the bengals let’s be real
Vikings AND 49ers are dragging their foot with contract extensions with Jefferson and Aiyuk so that they can flip them for draft capital.
Both teams will regret this…
The draft needs to be over. These "analysts" are intolerable
Kirk was a franchise qb for the Vikings
Bruh chris simms is just lying he ranked mahomes like 5th in his class at the time now he says he ranked him 1 what a liar.
lmfao
Only if JJ wants out.
Trade JJ, #23 and Brain O'Neil for 4 things
1. Washington 1st rounder #2 pick overall,
2. Washington 2nd rounder #36,
3. T. McLaurin
4. D. Payne
#2: Pick Daniels
#11 get OLine Fuaga/Latham/Barton/Fautuna/Mims to replace ONeil and his big contract.
#36: center JPJ or Z. Fraizer
T. McLaurin is salaried right atm and is a proven WR, pair him with addision and Vikings offensive weapons will be there. Every different player every week can get 100 yards and thats hard for any DC to game plan for. If they focus their game plan to stop 2 of our weapons we have the third to go to whether thats our TE or McLaurin/Addison.
D. Payne to lead the interior Dline.
Draft is a crapshoot. Get real proven players in McLaurin and Payne and risk drafting RT and QB.
2015 nfl draft, Vikes got Diggs in 5th, hunter in 3rd, and Kendricks in 2nd round. Honestly hitting on 2/3 player a draft can change your fortune. Go google Lions last 3 draft they killt it. Rams killt it in their 2023 draft with with Puka, Avila, Turner, and Young.
I would not be surprised if they trade him for the Drake Maye pick. I would ask for a 3rd round pick in addition as well as the 3rd pick. Hey, the NFL is a business.
Jeffersons team is technically doing the right thing!!
I say that b/c what agent makes their client sign knowing there are others that must be signed first? He will and wants to set the market, he won't sign until late, it's just the NFL business
Guys, they obviously think he's good but they don't want to keep him and want to trade him for a bunch of pics. Like the Tyreek Hill deal was for the Chiefs. And it's best for you to tell everyone that he's the best. And a franchise quarterback is what you build your team around not just the great receiver with no QB
This issue is baffling. Didn’t they let Kirk Cousins go, to clear the money to pay Jefferson then get a qb in the draft?
No they let Kirk go because they want all their finances clean…..they took the dead cap hit this year and they’ll move JJ
Jefferson didn't get the deal done same as the Vikings didn't get the deal done. Your stance on this is ridiculous.
I’ve never seen somebody who’s a “fan” of a team but wants to stir up issues within the team so bad. Go be a “fan” elsewhere
Typical cocky Diva WR. I’m so sick of these types I really wonder what makes so many receivers like this?
Diva? Dude didn't have to take another snap all season once kirk got hurt and the Vikings were looking like they were out of the play offs he came back and balled out in 2 games against the lions catching balls from nick mullens. I get zero diva from this guy, however when you let your veteran QB walk, hes going to want to see what you do before resigning. If the Vikings mess up the draft and dont get a QB he'll probably want to leave. If they get a good QB, then he knows the franchise has a direction.
Umm maybe because.. they’re great.
Vikings haven't been back to a super bowl since they started playing indoors. Believe it or not that was a huge advantage. If they trade justin Jefferson im done giving a crap.
I really hope this does not happen. I want whoever they draft to throw to JJ
I think I would trade Justin Jefferson for Jayden Daniels. It’s very risky but Jayden is a quarterback and Justin is a receiver for people who don’t watch football. And the NFL has made stupid rule changes that REALLY make the QB the most important player on the team. From a risk-reward standpoint it’s high-risk-high-reward I think and I could live with it. If the potential reward wasn’t so high I’d say “No.”. (Think about this. If the Vikings wanted the second pick they’d have to give up probably three-future Ones. I’d rather trade Justin than take that huge risk.)
At 3:57 no I wouldn’t. You don’t trade the best WR in the NFL ( arguably) for a potential nfl franchise QB
The past two NFL drafts for QBs have been historically bad
Zach Wilson
Justin Fields
Mac Jones
Kenny Pickett
Trey Lance
Daniel Jones
Sam Darnold
Josh Rosen
Drew Lock
I’d rather sign a veteran. In TODAYS NFL, if you are drafting a QB high, HE WAS TO SIT and learn behind a veteran. He has too.
Florio gets on my nerves always trying to stir the pot in Minnesota..are we sure he’s a Vikings fan cause he doesn’t act like one always trading our best players away
these guys have no idea whats going on in minnesota. Most Experts dont even know that Minnesota did not call the texans asking for the 23rd pick the texans called them. There are clips from the GM himself saying he has never thought once about trading a player like that. Also jefferson doesnt care hes leaving it all up to his agent.
Trading JJ makes too much sense. No mega contract, and the Vikes get a QB of the future. DO IT!!...As I recall KC won the SB without Tyreek Hill in 2024..
He was UNDER CONTRACT! That means, he was being rewarded for his work. Sandbagging is not going to engender him to anybody, especially for a massive pay raise. Regardless, even if he's the greatest thing non-QB (which he isn't), he's not worth $30M+ a year. To put things in perspective, Randy Moss took over games all by himself. JJ does not do that. He thrives when everybody else is thriving. Trade the guy, save some money and get lots of picks. Great wide receivers are not so difficult to come by.
JJ kept getting doubled and that let Addison roam free that's why he had more TDs
Justin Jefferson to the Chargers!
I forget, last year in the playoffs, had far did Justin Jefferson take them?
I too have often wondered "had" far did JJ take the Vikings in last years POs.
JJ is waiting to see who they draft - if they draft McCarthy he’s gone.
Y u say that?
I think McCarthy is one of the QBs he'd be happy with.
Jefferson is a top 3 wr.
If Jefferson really wants $30 million a year, then trade him if you can. No receiver is worth that amount of money, regardless of what Florio thinks.
The Vikings have already offered more than $30 million a year. JJ is holding out for $35 million or more.
@@TristanandIsolt Ridiculous!! Maybe he's asking for the moon because he wants out of Minnesota. If that's true, then the Vikings should oblige him.
@@robertcongdon6296 I'd rather keep him, but if we get a good enough offer I'd send him packing.
Time for florio to stop being a vikings fan
do it vikings...send him to washington for #2
Then Washington needs to kick back 1st next year also
JJ is waiting for his child custody/support case plays out before he signs……
The Vikings haven't played any games with Jefferson other than football games. We are negotiating a contract with him. Acting like the Vikings have done something wrong is fucked up.
Why do you say the Vikings need to get a deal done. Why doesn't Jefferson need to get the deal done?
Come on Mike. He is not leaving. Stop trying to stir the damn pot😂😮😅
Trade him to the Bengals for a 1st and Higgins and then trade your two first to move up to 2
No one’s ever trading Jefferson for a rookie QB especially not even the top one. That would be dumb as shit, daniels could suck.
Jefferson for Caleb yes, the rest aren't special enough
Caleb isn’t special though, you just listening to people on tv.
Jefferson better get ready to learn Duuuuval buddy
As a fan of neither team, that would be fun to see!!
I’d rather stick and pick Penix
Vikings want a black qb lol
trading jj only works if he willing to sign his next extension on his new team. gl! lol and lastly nfl contracts are never guaranteed. lol so unless vikings can guaranteed jj 5 or 6 yrs of his contract than maybe they can talk.
Why do all of Kurt Cousins WRs get all this credit but Kurt gets hardly any
Kirk.
Trade for pick#3 and a 2nd rounder.
The Vikings have had ample opportunities to offer a contract to Justin Jefferson and guess what THEY STILL DO!!!
They already have offered him a Contract starting at $30 Million and going up.
@@TristanandIsolt and he turned it down
@@MrJwdalle Right so it seems to me that if anybody should be blamed for not getting the deal done it's Jefferson.
@@TristanandIsolt poss, I think he just wants to be the highest paid NON-QB for a period of time. Nick Bosa is the highest currently,at $34,000,000 avg/yr.
@@MrJwdalle It would be nice if he would accept a contract that makes him rich as hell, but doesn't make the Vikings unwilling to pay it.
I’d trade JJ straight up for the #2 in a heartbeat. Get off his overpriced new contract and then replace him at 11 or 23. It’s an easy decision if you can get that deal. QBs win SBs not WR.
What's the point of saving cap space if you never want to pay your stars?
@@ahastar1141 Turing JJ into a potential franchise QB is a no brainer. If NE agrees to that you make that deal is what I’m saying. That also gets you off having to pay JJ and you have the assets to replace most of his production this year. Plus, you can spend that money elsewhere, maybe a top 5-10 guard and Edge. To me that’s a better team building strategy than overpaying any one player that isn’t a star QB.
If he wants that kind of money, bye. No shot you succeed with a 1 making that kind of money.
Trade him. No receiver should be paid this much regardless of talent. Maybe 6-8 years from now when the market raises. The best WR doesn’t win championships. And don’t play the “good for a rookie qb” card. Trade him. Don’t pay WRs this
Florio with the Click bait videos. He knows damn well they not trading him. Who says it's not JJ team holding up the deal
Which is also why they could trade him…
@@09mybad they would lose the fan base and a generational talent who hasn't reached his peak! I don't think the owners want to take that risk
@@Premiere_Emceebecause if he doesn’t want to be there and won’t sign an extension then Minnesota has no choice
He's trying to wait out Ceedee Lamb to make sure that he tops his contact extension.
The Vikings should trade him simply because you're not going to win a Superbowl with JJ and no franchise quarterback. You can definitely win a Superbowl with Jaden Daniels if he's a franchise quarterback and you already have weapons to put around him for the next few years.
@09mybad Yea I can see ya point But there hasn't been any indications that he doesn't want to be there. also, as much as he talked about his college quarterback and how much he loved him, it was clear that Kirk was not his guy, but he did what he needed to do because that was the person giving him the ball If you were to ask him, I'm sure he would choose someone like J. Burrow. Or Burrow himself.
Daniels Odunze addison hockenson
Trading JJ would put them in a full rebuild.. then all the other moves they made this off-season and last would make zero sense.. trading for Tj Hockenson, signing him.. letting Cousins walk to save money.. trading 2 2nd round picks to move up to 23.. if they do trade him, then kwasi should be fired immediately cause he doesn't have a clue what he's doing.
I would trade Jefferson ina heartbeat for jayden daniels... see ya justin
this is the climax of foolishness lol
A great receiver without a top QB is being wasted
Jefferson or Jayden Daniel. Uh excuse me but none of these guys are proven. How is florio gonna say thats a good deal?.. he could be a mediocre bust. Would it be a good trade lookin back? No.
I sell my vikings stuff if they trade Jefferson for 3spot and they pick drake 2.0 turbisky. Or any one. Vikings for now. But not worried. Chase not signed. Lamb not sign. Yet. So. I think vikings waiting. To sign him.
No.
The only way id trade JJ is to get the Bears pick and draft Caleb Williams.
I wonder if JJ to the cards for the 4th overall pick is on the table. Sounds like such a good deal for both teams, I do think ARI should get more picks because of JJ's contract added
JJ plus picks for 4th...Put down the crack pipe.
How about both of AZs 1st rd picks!
Hell no… u dont trade generational PROVEN talent for speculation.. its idiotic to even think
Vikings fan card has been pulled, go be a packers fan
No, its not. The Vikings have a history of getting these deals done closer to late July/early August right before the regular season.
I don't work the Colts, but I think I speak for them here: We will accept JJ in exchange for our 15th overall pick. I will even throw in next year's 7th rounder just because I am a nice guy.
If that happens the Vikings get #3 and pats next two 1sts
Justin Jefferson traded for Justin Herbert. Chargers take JJ McCarthy in the draft.
The next Calvin Johnson. Great player with no team success.
So stúpíd. McCarthy isn’t close to Herbert..
I'll gladly take Herbert for that!
@@1WhoSeesAll do you know what’s interesting… I was on top of the hill, screaming that we should draft Jordan love in 2020.. I’ve taken so much heat for that over the last four years, up until 2023… but truth be told, the Packers took a quarterback, and the Vikings took a receiver, and nobody but Vikings fans would argue that the Vikings are closer to a Super Bowl than the Packers. So yes, if we could have a do over, the quarterback is the much more impactful position by a country mile… I would trade JJ for Justin Herbert.
@@romain8390 I am not a Kirk fan, but at his best last year he played lights out WITHOUT JJ being on the field. To me that was the evidence that we needed to get rid of Kirk underachieving his contacts and JJ asking for too much for his contact. Would much rather get Herbert with our other weapons and add trade for Tee Higgins or draft another receiver early next year.
Florio is a clown
Funny thing is locally it's sounding more like JJ's team are the ones holding up signing an extension. Florio is a drama queen!!😂
Kwesi had not thrown out a dollar amount NOT ONCE!😂🤣.. he can't even site when and where he said it. Why would he handicap the team's negotiations that way?🤔
They're not using him as trade bait.. I'm all for them trading him to get a franchise QB.. but I highly doubt that the Vikings would do that.
Florio is just trying to stir up drama where there isn't any. Most new contracts in this situation aren't settled until training camp in this year of the rookie deal. You'd have to get an established good QB for Jefferson, not trading for some rookie you think might be good. That's the whole point of the rookie QB contract is to be able to pay the rest of the team.
Omg enough of this. So sick of hearing this s$&t
This is just a bullshit clickbait video, and its seems pretty obvious that Simms is not playing along with Florio. Simms appears to be annoyed with the nonsense.
Would ya trade Randy Mosses career for Brett Favres, the answer is YES
The vikings were 1-4 with jefferson and Cousins in the lineup last year.
think about that... he isnt winning you a championship
It better be the first or second pick or someone should be committed to the asylum. Any of the top 6 plus JJ is greater than maybe any of those qbs without him. JJ is not something you trade unless you want the fan base to hate you barring the absolute best result possible.
what about if New England takes maye at 3 Minnesota trade JJ to Arizona for their 4 and this year’s 23 they take Mcarthey and still have pick 11 for one of the top receivers on rookie contract
You keep Jefferson, he's a generational player......
