    The old ones seem to have a bit of trouble taking a hill, but they sure scooted right up those ramps onto the trucks. What a great little film.

    I love the VW. I had a 1964 and then a early 1970 when I was younger. I really liked working on them. Never broke down on me just regular maintenance thats all

    My father had a '56 model, with the oval rear window, roller gas pedal, and strange turn signals.

    7:07-7:09 Den Anlasserknopf links neben dem Tacho gab es 1954 nicht mehr. Der Käfer scheint also älter zu sein.

      If you look at some of the other cars that were available in Europe at that time you didn't really need much horsepower to pass. Compared to the american cars of the time the majority of European cars almost looked like little toy cars. The Austin A30 of the same year had a 0-62mph time of 43 seconds. Compared to that the oval Beetle's 32 seconds almost seems decent. My friend had a completely stock 1956 where the speedometer needle went all the way down to the oil light. Now he has a 1958 with a similar engine who also does this. The 30hp 1200 engine (36hp in the US) is in my opinion one of the best engines they put in the Beetle. It is not the most powerful or fastest, but it runs extremely smooth and has good low end torque. It actually has better torque than the next version of the 1200 that came in 1961. We have that engine in our 1963. It runs surprisingly good and makes more horsepower but the low end isn't quite the same.

      @@squid667the 36 had different gear ratios.

    • @squid667
      @squid667 4 месяца назад

      That is correct. The gear ratio there is very similar to the 1500 transmission. Putting the 1500 transmission into oval Beetles was a common modification in my country back in the day so they would get both an appropriate gear ratio and a synchronized first gear. It is not so common anymore now. Now it seems to be all stock or all custom .@@brianchisnell1548

    When did the split window appear?

    • @danielsellers8707
      @danielsellers8707 2 года назад

      From the start until March 1953; the factory used up the original roof units before introducing the oval window.

    • @brianchisnell1548
      @brianchisnell1548 4 месяца назад

      The splits were flat glass. Same as side glass and windshield. Bent glass was more expensive. The ovals were curved. In '65, the windshield got a curve too!
