    I am from Darjeeling and here most of the roads are extremely steep. I have been riding bike since my school days. When you are going downhill it is not at all recommended to press clutch unless you are changing the gear. We always ride downhill with engine braking and use brakes to slowdown if needed. If your are pressing too much clutch then you will have to use brakes all the time as the bike will be in free fall when clutch is engaged thus heating up disc brakes and causing brakes fail. Most of the drivers/riders those who come as tourists from plains always makes same mistakes and I have seen many brake fail incidents. Ride safe.

      ​@@prashant955 The gear you use when going downhill depends on how steep the hill is. You can use a combination of gears and speed to control your descent. Start with the 1st gear and let the bike roll, then switch to 2nd gear if you need more speed. You can also switch back to 1st gear if you need to slow down. By doing this, you'll only need to apply the brakes if the bike is rolling too fast or if you're going around turns.

    When you engage the Clutch all the way, it will take your bike to lowest gear i.e. 1st gear. The best way to ride in downhill is to use rear break to control the momentum.

    As per my riding experience pressing clutch in downhill is better because I, ve ride the same bike for so many years and the bike is still in good condition 👍✌✌✌

    Dissengaging the clutch (pressing the clutch bar) while going downhill might be good for those who are going at low speed. If you are going down at fast speed it is better to just have the clutch engaged. Reason being that if you suddenly release the clutch (engage the clutch) and you misjudge the speed of you bike (meaning that you are at lower gear with respect to the speed of you motorcycle) then you and your bike will experience big engine braking which might cause accident. This will also cause an unnecessary and sudden load on the transmission, clutch and engine which is harmful to the motorcycle.

      Normal braking krke speed control kro , kuch nhi hota h and mostly car wale pass krte h Baki maximum 2 wheelers neutral pe hi chalate h downhill.

    6 या 5th gear से (80-90 के speed से speed कम करके सीधा 25-30 तक आई fir clutch दाबाकर पुरा break apply करके रक जाये तो ऐसा करणा सही है, No sudden अकॅसेलशन4 situation, On For Stopping vehicle from top स्पीड3 top gear to stop without down shift, rather 1 to 2 gear downshift only

    Don't use clutch in downhill... Until you want to change clutch plate.. I dont recommend clutch.

    Hilly area mai badi gadi ko pass dena chahiye. Saath hi bike mai dono handle mai mirror bhi lagi honi chahiye jisse agar nutral gear mai bhi chalate hain to peeche wale vehicle ka idea rahe. Log apne shok mai mirror nhi lagate. Ye hamari saftey ki liye hai.

    Cltch pakar ke chalana nehi chahiye. Mera naya clutch plate ekdam puri tarha kharap ho gaya tha kal. Mai downhill chala raha tha,start off karke clutch pakar ke,taki brking ke waqt jyada fayda mile. Mera pura clutch plate badal na para.

    Apache rtr 4v 160 mai GTT technology hoti hai. Normal road par to ye thik hai magar downhill ride mai bina accelerator bohat tez chalti hai. Gtt off karne ka bhi option hona chahiye apache 4v 160 mai.

    Just a question,
    While descending down slope to park my bike in underground parking, to avoid brakes and use engine braking, I put bike in first gear which has speed limited to 13 14 kmph. Can this harm gear box or clutch plates?

      No engine braking doesnt harm the clutch since the clutch is full engaged to your engine.

    1. Most important point is for ABS system brake holder. Never at all ride with engine off. Doing this may cause a great loss to your life....
    2. Try to apply the brake of rear wheel 0.2 second earlier than front will, doimg this reduces the momentum force on the front wheel and helps you to attain stability, because deu to down hills the acceleration due gravity actung on the front side is slightly higher than the rear side.
    3. Ride in forth gear, because wear and tear of engine parts will reduce, as the rotational power is equal in both system.
    4. if your bike has drum brake, take break of 10 minutes after every hours. Because, brake shoe heats up and efficiency decrease.
    5. Never try to feel the brake disk heat, because it heats up extremely and may burn your finger, as you know you are using brake so frequently.
    6. Never try to overtake from corners.
    7. Make use of side mirrors properly.
    8. Lastly but not the least, use safety gears.

    When you press the clutch while going downhill, the clutch plates and steel plates in the clutch assembly will grind against each other as they are rotating at different speeds and are very close to each other. Due to this there will be some wear and tear of the same. So it is better NOT to press the clutch while going downhill. If you think that there won't be any wear and tear of clutch plates by pressing the clutch lever, please give an explanation.

      I guess very partial engagement will be there, because the centre shaft in cluth hub centre will still rotate, and fly wheel will be in rotate at wheel speed. yes or no?

      You are absolutely right and I have learned this after paying heavy price. I had to change the entire clutch assembly just after 8000 KM. The main reason of clutch damage was riding while pressing clutch. there would be some engagement even when you pull the lever fully.

      Yes, it will lead to wear and tear. Use clutch only in 1st gear or in traffic.

      Yes never press clutch and do downhill. Just reduce gear and use engine breaking. If it's steep downhill. You wouldn't even have to press accelerator to move faster. If you have a 200 cc engine. Just go only max to 3rd gear and go higher only when their is a straight road again.
