I am at my nine-month loc journey and have NO buildup. I used mousse to do my retwist and shampooed my hair every two weeks with a clarifying shampoo followed by a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Try another clarifying shampoo, that one is not working very well, she has a lot of buildup, just my suggestion. I use Aveeno Apple Cider and Vinegar shampoo.

That loc detox will definitely get that build up out soak her locs in it and it will definitely help my husband had a lot of buildup I did a detox soak and it was gone
