Thanks for watching? What did you like about this episode?
Personally I loved the whole episode and always wanted to quilt a quilt… I am a quilter but have never done long stem and would absolutely love to learn and to do it
You make an excellent video with lots of important points that confirm I'm not going to become a long armer myself but would value the expertise of any service provider who does this amazing work l. For now I'm making small projects
I liked that you told the prices of each thing as you went along. I also appreciated at the end, providing the actual price of making the entire quilt. People that don't know anything about sewing or quilting are usually shocked by the price that I give as an approximated value. They don't realize everything that goes into making it nor the prices of fabric and thread and lastly our time. This is really valuable information! Thank you!
Hello!! This is my 1st time on your channel!! Within 5 minutes (actually 3-4 min), I was blown away at your very diversified skill set & talent! You are an amazingly logical, organized, efficient, & accomplished woman! I have never quilted anything, but I love & very much appreciate what it takes to make quilts or anything by hand! And, I’m always happy to pay the asking price of beautiful handmade items -- because I do know what it takes & I appreciate the time, design, & materials required!! I come from an extremely talented group of women in my family, I sew simple items, love to do hand embroidery & have tried numerous crafts like beading vintage looking items, crochet, knitting, painting, etc.
Thank you for this amazing video!!
Also, the fact that you 3D tools you use, says a lot about you… you’re a rare talented person👏
I loved this video. I also love all the 3d printed supplies, especially the bobbin clips and binding clips!
Your whole process was a great education to watch. I will never question the charges my longarmer charges again. Making the tops of a quilt is not even half the battle. I'm impressed with your knowledge and engenuity.
Glad it was helpful!
Good information. People often ask me to make them a quilt. They want a bargain. Now I can educate them on the entire process. Thanks
I know I get that also! It really surprised me how much it actually cost. Most of the time I don’t think about it because it is a little here and a little there.
Very enlightening. Thanks for sharing. You deserve every cent plus more for your expertise. I am sure anyone complaining about price couldn't master the skills you have cultivated.
Awe that was very sweet! Made my day! Most of the time I feel very inadequate because I will forget how to do something then end up doing it the hard way first.
I think it’s important for us quilters not to underestimate skill, fabric, and time for the total price. If we continue to undervalue our work, customers will continue to pay low prices.
This is very true but you also have to keep in mind what it is costing for quilting in your area. I don’t do a lot of quilting for others so my price may be too high or too low depending on what the area pricing is. I know Missouri Star quilt company charges .03 cents a sq inch which is way more than other longarmers in my area. Though I would like to know what others are charging.
Great episode. Seeing the cost and time put into a quilt was very enlightening. The quilt turned out beautiful. Great job.
Thank you so much!
I really appreciate this. I hate it when people complain about the cost of artistry
Thank you. Very interesting! I liked seeing the whole process.
Wow! That was VERY informative! More content like this!! No one else does this.
New one coming out today! At 5:00 mountain time
Wow this was amazing! I have been in lightened! You did an excellent job explaining and you do beautiful work!
Thank you very much!
So informative as what it takes to quilt and bind. Lots of skill and precision involved. You do terrific work.
🤗🤗🤗
Awe thank you very much! I used to fret about every aspect but now I am ok with imperfection! Lol!
I never know how much I would charge if I so,d my quilts. Love all your 3d printed gadgets. Especially the bobbin clips. And the towa case.
We usually have a lot more money in them than we realize. Not sure someone would pay that to buy it though. I was surprised at the cost of the simple quilt.
Very educational, I loved your gadgets and room. I think I would charge more for this quilt. I hope you do more videos. This was the first one I watched.
Thank you very much! I have a new one planned that will come out next week or the week after.
Thank you. I found this to be fascinating. It explained so much that I had no idea about.
That is awesome! The reason I made the video is because so many people don’t understand the cost of a quilt that is given to them.
Very informative! Thanks for this demo and analysis of costs for this quilt.
You are so welcome!
$425. Would have been a more accurate price for this beautifully quilted and pieced work. Why do we all sell the work of our hands short of their actual price?
It is only worth what you can sell it for unfortunately. Thank you for watching!
And without the computerized quilting machine and doing it free hand it takes more time. We are selling ourselves short. 😂
You must find fantastic deals on fabric. My LQS prices have increased dramatically. Beautiful work 👏
Not really. Joann’s for backing usually because I am trying to save money but the rest are from the local quilt store. Everything has gone up so much it is crazy!
Thanks! Very enlightening--and supportive for all of us quilters!
Fascinating how you broke it down: quite helpful!
Thank you!
👍👍👍 очень полезно знать всем, кто не ценит ручной труд
Спасибо ❤❤❤
Yes even when you give a quilt to someone, they don’t have any idea how much it cost or how much time you put into it. I know some of mine that I gave to family ended up as picnic quilts to my horror!
Thank you so much, I'm new to quilting as I have been a garment sewer for many years and getting into quilting now. My hubby just bought me a longarm and your info is very informative.
Welcome to your new adventure. I was a garment sewer for many years. You are going to love longarming.
this very informative guess i am doing right by my long armer
Thank You!
A good take on the steps involved to machine quilt on a longarm. I liked how you focused on the process and made clear what this 60"x80" cost to finish. The cost of $.025 per square inch seems like what I have seen charged elsewhere over the years. More for custom work, of course. Reasonable and efficient. Well done. I am a beginner using a different brand of longarm and liked the way you set up the border with the edge to edge design and then took out the middle stitching. Did you learn that during training with the Gammill? Thank you.
Thank you very much. No I have never took any classes with Gammill. Trial and error and RUclips videos help.
Excellent
Thanks. Loved watching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your space/shop and equipment looks very high end. I love watching you work.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful Quilt!
Thank you! 😊
Wow, I never saw that done before! Thanks!
Your welcome!
Very informative thanks so much.
Glad it was helpful!
Love seeing this whole process
I am so glad to hear you liked it!
Great video and great information for us beginners.
It surprised me also!
Very interesting to watch. I have never done long arm
I tried to make it interesting. Thanks Mona!
Beautiful quilt and awesome quilting design, love your work very talented. Deb please let me know whenever you start selling your binding holders and etc, I love to purchase some. Thanks Deb for sharing your talent
Awe thanks Bev. You know I would send you whatever you want. Email me.
Very educational episode! I really like the 3D tools you made as well!
Thank you so much!
This was a fascinating video to watch. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Glad you enjoyed it!
💕beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Magnifique, quel talent.
Awe thank you!❤️
Enjoyed it immensely. Good to see all your work and loved watching someone obviously knowledgeable about their machine and what they are doing. Definitely a new subscriber here.
Awe!❤️❤️❤️made my day!
Could you have used a solid thread in the bobbins to save the variegated for the top?
Yes, definitely could have. I did end up with enough though and some to spare.
Hi Deb, thanks for sharing, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would be very interested in your 3D printing knick knacks, I was just online looking to buy some bobbin clips and cases and wow your binding spools as well. Did you design them? so much respect for your work.
You can see most of the stuff I designed on Makerworld. makerworld.com/en/@dclutter. Send me an email at dcclutter@outlook.com if you want something printed. I don't have everything on makerworld yet.
I had to stop watching and send a comment when I saw the TOWA gauge box! Absolutely brilliant!! I don't understand 3D printing but I know I'd love one of these boxes. How can i aquire one? Back to the video now 😊 (btw, I'm in Sioux Falls ... small world!)
Send me and email at dcclutter@outlook.com. Tell me what color and your address. I will make you one.
Excellent video. Many new ideas for me! You are blessed with the extras that you and your hubby come up with (that’s talent too). I think your pricing was very low and you did not add in the time it took you to make the quilt. I only give gifts and do charity quilts. I have a juki mid arm (sit down table) and I love it! It could go in a frame and I could put a computer on it, but I love it as a sit down. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for commenting! ❤️ The time it took was 10 hours to piece. I put it in the video at $25.00 hour but it was separated. I didn’t add it into the overall cost because it can be subjective. I don’t quilt for others often so I could be low. I guess it depends on where you live. I am sure there could be a whole debate on pricing lol! This was such a simple quilt compared to what I usually make. I was surprised at the cost also! I hope you watch my next one. It will be different.
@@dclutterquilting I liked all your 3d stuff too.
Very interested in your Towa Gauge box! How can I get one of these boxes? Do you make all your 3D items-what creative ideas!
You can send me an email. Dcclutter@outlook.com. Tell me what color and it is 10 shipping and 5 for the box. Yes I make them.
Very interesting. I would never think to glue the binding in place. Guessing it’s regular fabric glue .
It is washable clear glue like Joann’s brand or Elmer’s. It is only temporary until I get it sewn down.
@@dclutterquilting yes, I didn’t think it was permanent☺️. It would be a tragedy if it weren’t sewn down .
lol I didn’t think you did, but you never know if someone else might! Haha! Though it would make binding easier!
@@dclutterquilting 😎
Where are you from ? I have a statler need help setting up patterns . Love your technique I need to learn how you set up your borders . Love love your teaching and showing it all have a blessed days in quilting
Hi Sue! I am Rapid City SD. I would gladly help if you were close!
Wow this was very interesting. Never actually seen it done. U are so efficient and know what u doing. Did it take long to learn? And what if i may ask did u machine cost? From South Africa
The machine was $35,000 when I bought it. They are almost 50,000 now for the same machine. I am still learning. I have been doing longarming for 10 years. But I don’t do it all the time. So sometimes I have to get back in the hang of it. I forget how to do something and remember when I am almost done doing it the hard way! Lol
Love the 3D printed binding clips! Are they in printables? PLA?
I only have my bobbin clips on printables. That is only because it takes a lot of time to manage just one place. You can find them on Makerworld. makerworld.com/en/models/473718#profileId-383877 . You will have to have the bambu slicer / prusa or orca slicer to open the file. Then you can convert it into a .stl from the slicer.
Excellent video and beautiful job making and finishing the quilt. Do you sell the 3D printed binding holders? That is EXACTLY what. just told my sister I wish I had a way to make them.
I don’t currently sell them. Send me an email at dcclutter@outlook.com with your address and I will send you a couple.
Great video. I just found you on my feed. I would like the information on your 3D printed bobbin clips please.
Send me an email at dcclutter@outlook.com and tell me what color you like and how many. Longarm bobbin clips or class 15 or Bernina?
Love your bobbin winder. Did it come with your Gamill? Great idea with the scissors as well.
Looking where you have the binding holders you made.
So I don’t have them for sell. Still trying to decide if that is what I want to do. Email me at dcclutter@outlook.com and let me know how many you would like and what color and I will get back to you.
What glue do you use on the binding?
It is a clear water solvable glue. Joann’s brand or Elmer’s.

Loved the video and as interesting in starting my own long arm. How much was it for the whole set up if I wanted to start? And where would I buy a machine like that?
I have a Gammill 26” Statler stitcher. They have went up a lot in price. You can go to Gammill.com to see the prices. How much for the whole setup? Yikes that is a lot of extras that I bought or made a little at a time. My husband built the light bar. Ruler base, quick change feet, casters, zipper leaders and rulers are all extra! Start with what you can afford. It is as costly as buying a new car.
@@dclutterquilting yeah thank you I will check it out and for sure gather things over time
This long arm process just blows my mind ! I would love to see this in person and be an apprentice to learn how to use this machine🥹
Well if you were near rapid city SD I would invite you over!
Your links have problems, I get error messages
Thank you. I will check it out.
If you make a quilt per month, it is cheaper to buy a long arm machine (if you have the space) and pay it monthly. Get a loan
Well I am not sure. Mine was 35,000.00. I have had it 6 years but I had another one before that. So if you add all the quilts I have done in the last 10 years, which is about 300, then it would be 45,00.00 at $150.00 each. But I have quilted some for others so I did make some money from my machine. It is still a large investment.
