    I like how Padme was able to piss him off most. No matter how good the Jedi fought against the Seperatists, it doesn't really affect Palpatine's plan. Nor did it matter how successful the Seperatists were, Palpatine would come out on top no matter what. The only thing that irritated Palpatine was the slowly turning wheels of democracy. If somebody turned the wheels the other way even a little bit, it would take that much longer for his plan to come to fruition. And that day Padme turned the wheels a good two cycles the other way.

      Yes and no cause if the republic had dominated the separatist too fast the people wouldn’t have hated the Jedi too much and palpatine would have the support of the people at the beginning of the empire also Palpatine would have to think of a good way to sway Anakins as it was during trails and tribulations during the clone wars that Anakins faith in the Jedi began to shift during important moments

      @@amurawskiob1850 well I think it's safe to say that Palpatine wasn't, since the beginning, just waiting for Anakin to have a vision so that he's ripe for manipulation. I also don't think it's likely that he planted the vision, as the vision comes true.
      I think what's more likely is that Palpatine does not simply put all his eggs in one basket. If Anakin never became ripe for manipulation, he probably would have counted on someone else. I mean saw well that in the Clone Wars, despite the Sith's rule of 2, Sidious does not simply put all his trust in one apprentice.

      @LuckoDaStars 2 года назад +27

      In the case of Julius Caesar he did take power because he knew that the system was corrupt and actually did things for the Republic that greatly benefited its people. Therefore becoming more and more popular to the point where he was then chosen to become leader for life which violated the principles of the Republic. However because the Senate and its corruption reared its ugly head and they murdered Julius Caesar they cemented the fact that the Senate is corrupt and must be dealt with
      For Napoleon he was a commoner who became a king through fear will strategy and the ever-changing game of politics to the point where he was actually able to become king in multiple countries and even after his Exile, his own fellow French who were tasked to kill him should he ever return outright refused to do so and joined him willingly out of respect and love for their emperor. Eventually Europe declared War against Napoleon and declared him the enemy of the world.
      Adolf Hitler was a product of the first world war and the wrongful blame being placed onto Germany when it was the cause of another country and the underhanded tactics and deals at basically destroyed the economy of multiple countries which led to the Great Depression throughout the entirety of the western world no thanks to Woodrow Wilson for also getting involved which also fucked over the Middle East. And because of the huge stigma and hatred of Germans they even denied better live for the German people and Austria to the point where they basically had to do in their own misery. Hitler did rally the people and basically made Germany into a world power through Charisma tactics and more. However it doesn't change the fact that he did some horrendous things in the process but the fact that he literally made a country that was basically nothing more than a punching bag kicked into the dust into a dominant world power in no less than 10 years shows that you can actually rise above where you once stood and having Innovation that was unmatched throughout the world of that time frame and even now we still use that technology but Innovative it into a newer form ( the jet engine was a prototype that was created by the Nazis but was never utilized during the war effort as the technology was still too young )
      Julius Caesar stole power because he loved the Republic and knew the corruption so he had to take it upon himself assemble the triumvirate rent and try to save the Republic from the deep-rooted corruption and died for it while exposing the corruption
      Napoleon was a peasant but through sheer will and patriotism he became a king and at the same time became the enemy of the world according to the rest of Europe.
      Adolf Hitler who fought in the first war basically had to pick himself up by the bootstraps and reinvent not only himself but the world around him.... This scene provides exquisite character development for the Chancellor showing that even Palpatine has his weaknesses and can still be overcome by the good in people. It strengthens the viewers' ties to the show. It foreshadows into the plot that Darth Sidious will meet his defeats and that his rise to power will not be a smooth, unchallenged transition. People like to depict Vader as a menacing unstoppable force, and Thrawn as a more knowledgeable and planning counterpart... But this office, in itself, make Palpatine both... Now Palpatine is patient and is waiting for the Senate slowly overrule it, but the fact that Senator Amidala was able to persuade millions in spite of the opposition through her call for non-violence and peace is all but foreshadowing of the ultimate defeat of the Emperor. The ability to stand up and defy Palpatine (intentionally or unintentionally) is something that her son would pick up.

Forget palpatine, the corruption of the republic itself has been being slowly revealed for decades, centuries maybe. That’s why Qui-gon was kind of a loner Jedi, because he resented the Jedi order for blindly following the republic instead of the force like they used to. The republic’s own corruption brought palpatine to power. Padme’s only one person fighting an uphill battle; she can only say/ do so much. The clone wars episodes where Padme and ahsoka met with her old separatists friend kind of explored this aspect.

      At the same time, there's a certain charm to seeing things expanded and having the excitement of not knowing HOW they're going to get out of a bind instead of IF they're going to get out of a bind, you know?
      Plus, there's a lot of in-jokes and nods to the future series that you would miss. TCW might of had issues with the old EU canon, but at least the writers were nerds like us.

    • @FedRebel
      @FedRebel 10 лет назад +109

      Luke Danger What issues with EU? Lucasfilm stated that TCW would outrank the entire EU in their canon hierarchy (TCW had it's own tier immediately below the films)
      As far as in-jokes go...I agree. the correct viewing order is 4-6, then 1-2, then TCW, with 3 finishing off. The original trilogy loses a lot of it's power if you watch the prequels first.
      1-2 are a primer to answer the question where Vader came from, as Obi-Wan is solely a source of "Half truths and hyperbole." TCW then gives weight and context to the events in 3. Without TCW being injected, Anakin comes off as a whiny spoiled brat.

    • @Luke_Danger
      @Luke_Danger 10 лет назад +63

      Enraged Sith Continuity. A lot of fans hated TCW because it pushed a lot of the EU to the side. IE, Adi Gallia originally was one of Grievous' kills in the comics, Ryloth was supposed to have pretty much no rotation with a night and day side (which was one they were planning on doing originally before they realized they would more or less be making a Mustafar planet location wise), etc. etc. A lot of people gave TCW flak for that.
      Mind, with most of the EU now being shuffled to "Legends", that's not so much an issue but that's another can of worms.
      But yeah, 4-6 is a good start, followed by 1, 2, TCW, and Revenge of the Sith. Yeah, definitely want to do ROTS after watching TCW since without TCW, ROTS comes off as Anakin just being a whiny bitch instead of being a fall that had been built over the course of the years. Hell, Ahsoka walking away from the Order was perfect: Left a permanent mark that Anakin would regret and leave him pissed at the Jedi for kriffing the entire situation up and throwing her under the bus then having the audacity to just write it off as the Force testing her or something.

    George Lucas has stated that Palpatine is literally the Devil in Star Wars...
    Now seeing this scene backs up that statement strongly ...
    The Devil has a lot of power and influence in our world, yet his power can be diminished by the will power of men and God.
    And as Palpatine, he will wait ... wait until the tide turns in his favor... he will wait in the shadows for the right moment to strike ...

      @BilledMemories It sums the whole goddamn show. Clones, the senators and even the Jedi are just pawns who move on the map. The whole war is orchestrated by Palpatine. Palpatine causes indirectly chaos in the Senate and senator of Umbara gets killed. Umbara joins the Separatists because of this and clones invade Umbara.
      All of the Clones, the Seppies and the whole scenario of the Umbara arc has been put into motion by Palpatine even though you don't see it or hear it. You just need to connect the dots.
      Sometimes, like with this scene, all don't go according to Palpatine's plan and then it is a big deal. But otherwise when everything is going like he wants you don't see him or hear him.

    Alot op people are asking why this should be one of the best scenes in the CW-series, but for me the answer might actually be quite simple. One simply has to watch all the prequel movies and the CW-series and count how many times Chancelor Palpatine himself is directly telling he is up to take the absolute power of the Senate. It is not untill the very end of the "Revenge of the Sith" where Palpatine says "I am the Senate" where it gets clear that he wants and will keep the absolute power. Even in all the cut-out scenes from "Revenge of the Sith" which shows the rise of the Rebellion, it is not quite clear that Palpatine wants to have the absolute power. Sure, after all the movies and our knowledge one can easely point out phrases and scenes where we can insinuate such things, but rarely, perhaps not even 1 time besides this scene shown here, we see Palpatine saying he is going to take the absolute power. He's not saying it with the exact words, but when he says "for now we must follow the principles of our democracy" one clearly understands that this "for now" is not going to last "forever"; and when he says "we must let the wheels of the senate turn", one with some knowledge about politics should perfectly understand that he wants a senate that listens to its leader and not a leader that listens to the senate. In other words, he wants to go away from democracy and when you do, you're getting an dictator, which he kinda did became. The motivation for this is because he clearly asks in the beginning of the scene how it is possible that he wields all power possible in this Republic, even with all the emergency powers he earlier had received, but yet in the end he doesn't have the full power he thought he would have and he does want to have.

    You know, its almost like they're mocking us. Subtle hints of in our entertainment while we our oblivious to what happens in real life. Like Star Wars, Hunger Games, Last of Us ext. And don't get me started when our young don't even know their own history.

      I've thought the same thing for a long time. I immediately picked up the parallels of what was happening in the prequels and Clone Wars with what was simultaneously happening in America's policies. I think this cartoon is genius with it's subtle allegory.
