My first snowmobile was a 2001 ZR 600 EFI, I attempted to clean mine but got as far as taking the 4 bolts out and didn't know about the 3 Allen head retaining bolts inside! No wonder it didn't want to come out! I'm glad I didn't force it. I ended up taking it to my Arctic cat mechanic. If I remember right I couldn't find anything on youtube showing the procedure like this. Man, you're about 9 years too late :-) This would have come in real handy, seeing that I typically do a lot of my own mechanicals on stuff. How do you like this sled? I miss mine :-(
I absolutely love it. I have tweeked and modified it to ride how I want it to and she flies! I also looked for vids on pulling the power valve's and couldn't find anything so I felt my way around blind then made a video so others could have confidence going in. Not knowing what you might mess up is the worst part. Now 1000's of other people won't have to wonder. Thanks for the sub and watching. I try to be as responsive as possible. As my channel grows though if I get 1000 comments it will be hard to go through them all. But for now I can personalize chat with everyone. Maybe I have to devise a system where if my fans see someone asking for help that they like the comment to push it to the top so I can see it because if theres 20,000 that would be impossible
Have you ever had a no spark condition on this? I have a 2002 Zl 600 that gets no spark it all looks completely mint except the back tunnel by the rear lift handle is ripped some ( like someone got stuck and ripped it out with truck) I don't know if there is a way to test cdi or coils , or the timing pulse pickup? Or is there grounds that have to be cleaned?
I have the three retention bolts removed but the power valve still won’t slide out. It slides further out than when I didn’t have the bolts removed. Any suggestions?
They may be gummed up. The barrels get really sticky from the 2 stroke. Try spraying some carb cleaner into the valve body behind the retension plate. That may help loosen it up
By any chance do you know what the spec is on them I cleaned my valves and tried my sled again and I’m still having a bogging issue with it after about 5 to 10 miles an hour I can’t give it full throttle
This may seem like an obvious thing but how much gas is in it? My sled kept bogging out after I would go and come to find out the fuel level was too low, so when I went forward the fuel would slosh to the back of the tank and suck air causing it to bog out. it is also possible the screens on the end of the fuel pick up line is plugged. I would check that first
@@thethriftysnowmobiler9801 I just pulled the smart vavles with the screen out they were good they spring back good. And about the gas the gas it was a under the gage to show how much is in the tank but it was covering the smart vavles you think that’s to little gas and no enough pressure.
Not enough gas could definitely cause a problem. When you go the gas sloshes to the back of the tank starving the motor of gas making it bog out like its running out of gas. I would fill it about half way and see if it keeps doing it
Try soaking on parts cleaner. The 2 stroke oil is really sticky. Some parts cleaner should help to unstick it. Could also try heating it up with a hair dryer or carefully with a propane torch
The Thrifty Snowmobiler well its sitting there doing nothing rn the engine is pulled apart i believe my dad pulled the cylinders and pistons off and lefr it alone after that
@@thethriftysnowmobiler9801 im mechanically good enough to rebuild engines and shit but if i have missing parts or pieces thats when i get pissed and give up
Ive rebuilt my 2014 polaris indy 800 sp and there was way more wiring then these old school sleds more nuts and bolts also i know how to do things i can get my dads zl 600 running
Thanks man.. was having a hard time getting the cable off the valve .. your video helped big time
Glad I could be of assistance

I never had a spark issue with my sled but did with my raptor. My back handle was ripped off the same way.
Does the gasket need to be replaced after cleaning the valves? Can I use black rtv?
I wouldnt use rtv sealer. As long as the old gasket isn't torn it should be ok

That worked. Thanks! Just hand to work it back and forth a bunch.
Awesome sauce! Happy I could help. Good luck!

I went to go take mine off but I can’t get it to come out I removed the cover bolts and the 3 inside it still one come out of the head

Awesome! I am glad I could assist!
Can I run a tank of Seafoam through it to clean them?
Not sure that would do better than getting in there and cleaning them with parts cleaner
Wish i could get my dads zl 600 with out the powervalves running
They aren't too difficult to get moving. Whats it doing or not doing?

There are lots of videos on RUclips that show how to put things like that together. Always worth a shot!

Looks like a 800 on head
It's a stock cover photo. Thats probably why it looks that way.
The video is of my Zl600
