LOVE THIS IDEA!! I recently got my first pair of Williamsi and my female laid her first egg. Unfortunately, it's glued to underneath the lip of the enclosures' cover, so I'm waiting for some egg tubes that I ordered to come in soon. But anyway, you have awesome content, dude. And you've helped me in finding an inexpensive yet effective way of keeping hatchlings for the time being. Keep up the good work!
Adults will cannibalize the young! The cups are a good size to ensure the smallest babies manage to catch their prey, but babies can also be housed in a communal tank with others of the same size. They have to be separated once they reach maturity, or the males will become territorial.
I get that, but I guess I don't understand why the babies couldn't stay in that 1 gallon from the start of the video? The adults are in a different tank, correct? The babies are so cute!!!
I cannot find fruit flys anywhere I can only find crickets that are too large for my baby geko to eat. I have powder food for him to eat is there any other foods you can recommend?
Have any recommendations on how to get some CGD off a flighty neon day hatchling? Lol I figured he would be fine with it in there but yeah.. he fell in. He's fine other than I feel bad for him trying to rub it off his chest and tummy. Just sprayed his enclosure down best I could and hoping he rubs it off himself 🤷 oy.
Hey Daniel how's it going? I'm a little late on this topic buy I'm currently trying to breed my own gold dust day gecko's, can you go further into detail about the breeding set up these guys need
They're super simple to breed. I'll get around to a video on it eventually but if you have a Facebook you should join the groups "Phelsuma Phanatics" and "Day Geckos"
Ok, so I had surprise baby geckos hatch in the enclosure and I have a baby I can't extract because the enclosure is a mature and elaborate bioactive setup. Any advice on how to get him out safely?
Found two gecko eggs by our AC on carpeted floor in bedroom..I hear its not good to move them . Should I just leave them there? do you have any links / suggestions?
I've got two breeding pairs and five or six hatchlings right now, so I imagine you'll see more in the future! I'd recommend looking for local reptile expos or browsing the classifieds at kingsnake.com if you live in the states and want to try getting this species. Just remember that day geckos are display animals, and you can never do too much research!
I have a question, the water you use for the spraying of the reptiles and living areas is it distilled or tap? I'd really like to know. I'm interested in learning more about them. I also wanted to get a pet but not sure if i want a furry creature or a scaley one lol.
So with this type of gecko I know they aren’t supposed to be held but can you make a video on cleaning the cage? I’m getting one and don’t you have to clean the cage?
How did u get them to not be scared of you? I have my own giant day gecko which I got about 3 months ago and he is so scared of me. I can't even put my hand in the terrarium without him running away.... Do you have any tips for a new gecko owner like me?
I understand this is an old video but I was wondering if you could answer a question for me, I can't find an answer anywhere... at what week of incubation do you see movement when candling? Mine have been moving alot (given to me for free at a pet store) and I'm wondering how old these eggs might be due to the fact that the person who gave them to me with the purchase of my female wasn't even aware there was eggs and just wanted them gone..
The initial cost could be anywhere from $50 to $200, depending on where you get everything from... You'll also need to regularly buy food and replace lights and substrate!
i own two crested geckos, but i’ve wanted to branch out with something a bit different with day geckos. it’s so difficult to find gold dust day gecko resources on youtube
Sure thing - coconut doesn't mold very easily. Just be sure to keep the humidity at the right level and try to keep their food away from the substrate, so they aren't eating large amounts of it.
I keep mine at room temperature, because my room is a constant 75-80 degrees - however, lots of keepers supply a low wattage heat lamp using a blue day or red night bulb
I agree with Gabriel - if you're really trying to be cost-effective, cresties are less expensive to house and feed, but can be a bit jumpier. Both have their pros and cons!
Those sound perfectly normal - adults (and especially females) tend to develop jowls/cheeks when they're well-fed. To my knowledge they store extra calcium to be used in egg production
Exactly as shown - they can stay in that cup at room temperature until they hatch out! The substrate may need to be misted once in a while, but that's it.
AfroHerpkeeper also I really like the snakes so I was wondering if you could do more things with snakes or breed them or get more of them and great videos I love reptiles and your one of the better reptile youtubers
This species as well as giant day geckos can be pretty hardy and have fairly simple care - about the same as a crested gecko + a need for UVB light. I'd say they make pretty good starters, but they aren't good for handling and can be very fast
All the ones in this video are the same species - gold dust day geckos. They may look different colors because their skin can lighten/darken depending on their mood and environmental conditions
Day geckos tend to be bad for handling - some people have success with holding giant day geckos, but most species are incredibly flighty, and their skin can slough off if they're grabbed
Don't think I'll make it there, but I am planning on going to NARBC next weekend! Not sure if I'd be willing to ship the hatchlings but regardless they'll probably be about $40-60
No need to ship, I live in Austin! That sounds nice, hit me up when they're for sale. And wow, I didn't even know about the breeder's conference, now I kinda wanna go. See you there, maybe.
Can you hold one for me I will buy one for sure, could I get your email or cell number so we could communicate about this? Also your videos are always very informative and I enjoy watching them.
I have two, just wanted to try something new. Filmed this on a phone and don't have a phone stand for the tripod, so I'll probably look into one of those
5:00 That is VERY GOOD (and important) advice for anyone thinking of breeding geckos/lizards.
Your videos are awesome! You continually impress me with your vocabulary, knowledge, and passion for reptiles! Keep up the good work!!
Lots of geckos in my house, they hang around the lights to eat bugs. They make a very loud call too. All natural, I don't interfere with them at all.
I have some mourning geckos and I’m not sure if they are eating or not any recommendations ? Been giving them exo Tera crested gecko dies
Those babys are sooo cute! And another great video, keep up the good work!
Omg , i want one now :( it was so cute and tiny !!
I got a giant day gecko. Giant, but cute
sameeee
One thing that made me not get them was that you can’t hold them very often
Great video loved I'm getting some day geckos soon so it was beneficial to know how to set up baby environments
Congrats on 17K subs! You are a very smart guy for someone your age! Keep it coming can't wait to see those little guys hatch and grow!
I love them there so cute good job keeping them healthy keep up the good work

oh my gosh, AfroHerpKeeper! this is so cool! I am new to the channel and subcribed 2 minutes in the video! thx for your entertainment!
Could you make a full care guide video? Its very difficult to find consistent information on forums and websites.
Why would the babies not be able to stay in the larger tank? What is the purpose for moving them to those tiny cups, other than space saving??
Adults will cannibalize the young! The cups are a good size to ensure the smallest babies manage to catch their prey, but babies can also be housed in a communal tank with others of the same size. They have to be separated once they reach maturity, or the males will become territorial.

Cool video! The tank at the beginning is a standard 2.5 gallon by the looks of it
sam pollard 2 gallon? that's less than five inches;
I've been watching you for 3 years and it's been very good ever since
I cannot find fruit flys anywhere I can only find crickets that are too large for my baby geko to eat. I have powder food for him to eat is there any other foods you can recommend?
Just subscribed love your chanel those baby Geckos are sooooooo cuuute!!!!

Congrats on the hatchlings
Ok, so I had surprise baby geckos hatch in the enclosure and I have a baby I can't extract because the enclosure is a mature and elaborate bioactive setup. Any advice on how to get him out safely?
My baby red ear sliders are not quite used to the concept of glass
The video I've been waiting for, very nice. Want one of these now too :p
Found two gecko eggs by our AC on carpeted floor in bedroom..I hear its not good to move them . Should I just leave them there? do you have any links / suggestions?

Hey AfroHerpKeeper, I was curious if you know if the care for Williamsi Lygodactylus is roughly the same? Thanks for any help!
Yeah, I believe their care is almost the exact same - the babies are absolutely tiny though, so they need lots of attention in the first few weeks.
AfroHerpkeeper thanks so much for the fast reply! It helps!
So with this type of gecko I know they aren’t supposed to be held but can you make a video on cleaning the cage? I’m getting one and don’t you have to clean the cage?
They are so cute! I love your videos! Keep making them!
what would you feed a lizard like them so small
These ones get flightless fruit flies and Pangea crested gecko diet
For adult gold dust day gecko what should the cage size be
A 12x12x18" ExoTerra or similar enclosure works great for either one adult or a pair
AfroHerpkeeper could I do breeding in a 12 12 18
Do you currently have or plan on breeding anymore good dust day geckos?
Love your intro and outgrow by the way
Wut Do You Not Put The Eggs in To A Incubator ?
Not this species, no. These eggs do fine at room temp (between 70 and 80).
How did u get them to not be scared of you? I have my own giant day gecko which I got about 3 months ago and he is so scared of me. I can't even put my hand in the terrarium without him running away.... Do you have any tips for a new gecko owner like me?
What temperature should the egg and the Gecko be
This species does fine around room temp - 70-80 degrees
awesome little geckos! your lucky your adult day geckos are not as egg hungry as ours :)
I understand this is an old video but I was wondering if you could answer a question for me, I can't find an answer anywhere... at what week of incubation do you see movement when candling? Mine have been moving alot (given to me for free at a pet store) and I'm wondering how old these eggs might be due to the fact that the person who gave them to me with the purchase of my female wasn't even aware there was eggs and just wanted them gone..
afroherpkeeper where do u get those the 1 gallon tanks
I got mine secondhand but I've seen them for sale at Petsmart
okay thanks
How much money should it be to get the bearded dragon and tank etc in all
The initial cost could be anywhere from $50 to $200, depending on where you get everything from... You'll also need to regularly buy food and replace lights and substrate!
AfroHerpkeeper luckily my brothers girlfriends aunt is giving me everything for free! Included the beardie
i own two crested geckos, but i’ve wanted to branch out with something a bit different with day geckos.
it’s so difficult to find gold dust day gecko resources on youtube
can u use eco earth instead of the terrarium moss
Sure thing - coconut doesn't mold very easily. Just be sure to keep the humidity at the right level and try to keep their food away from the substrate, so they aren't eating large amounts of it.
Ok thanks!!
Absolutely interested in buying one of these adorable babies!
they are so adorable! I found out today that my biology class is getting a chameleon
cool
Hope you made sure they're keeping it properly
How much do you charge for the babies? And do you or can you mail them out?
What kind of little 1 gal aquarium is that?
Not certain - got it at a garage sale, but I've seen them at chain pet stores like Petco and Petsmart
Darn. Have to put in some work to find it now :p
If you're ever in Houston for an event please let me know! Would Be awesome to meet you!
Congrats! They look awesome! :D
love your videos dude subscribed for sure
What do you need for heat
I keep mine at room temperature, because my room is a constant 75-80 degrees - however, lots of keepers supply a low wattage heat lamp using a blue day or red night bulb
hey afoherpkeeper I want a gecko I can handle and looks cool but I don't want to spend to much do you have any good choices
Esmeralda Campos a crested gecko or lepard gecko is what I suggest i have some myself and they are very tame and friendly
I agree with Gabriel - if you're really trying to be cost-effective, cresties are less expensive to house and feed, but can be a bit jumpier. Both have their pros and cons!
I have a gold dust day gecko and she seems to have pail bulges on her lower neck. Should I be worried ???
Those sound perfectly normal - adults (and especially females) tend to develop jowls/cheeks when they're well-fed. To my knowledge they store extra calcium to be used in egg production
AfroHerpkeeper awsome thank you so much !!!
I love geckos because of watching your videos
How do you keep the baby's heated
This species does perfectly fine at room temp!
AfroHerpkeeper I want a gecko I can handle and looks cool but I don't want to spend to much do you have any good options
I’m keeping three females in a 12x24 exo terra is that ok ?
Sounds great! So long as they don't quarrel too much and you provide hiding places, that works.
Can you tell me how to tame a gecko
If it's one of these guys, you're not going to have much luck. Day geckos are more of a display animal than one to handle.
I suggest putting tiny air holes in the cups so the geckos can get oxygen
They're pre-punched, don't worry! Probably should've mentioned that
AfroHerpkeeper oh okay =-)
AfroHerpkeeper hey I have some questions about my turtle tank
Alexander, sure, what's up?
AfroHerpkeeper w
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuc
Do you got some for sale?
Your videos are the best😍😍😍😍😍😍!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Video! Can u post a costed gecko care video plz
#AfroHerpkeeper how do you incubate those gecko eggs?
Exactly as shown - they can stay in that cup at room temperature until they hatch out! The substrate may need to be misted once in a while, but that's it.
AfroHerpkeeper also I really like the snakes so I was wondering if you could do more things with snakes or breed them or get more of them and great videos I love reptiles and your one of the better reptile youtubers
could you please do a care guide about these guys?
Tiny pearls of life
how much would you sell those anoles if I'm correct for, interested in a pet
Lamar B anoles?
Lamar B Try again Lamar
ANOLES?
They're not Anoles, Lamar Kendrick .
this was such an awesome video
Can you do a care video of your boa constrictor
I have a setup video for her here: ruclips.net/video/Rq9cYV5jzIw/видео.html
Awesome! Newbie question, do Day geckos make good starter geckos? (Well not starter, i'm prepared for any tank upkeep etc)
This species as well as giant day geckos can be pretty hardy and have fairly simple care - about the same as a crested gecko + a need for UVB light. I'd say they make pretty good starters, but they aren't good for handling and can be very fast
What kind of gecko are?
Gold dust day geckos - Phelsuma laticauda
What's the picture in the background of your intro?
One of the adult false gharials at the San Antonio zoo!
Okay! Just wondering!
Okay thankyou im getting 3 of them soon
quick question regarding gargoyle geckos-
can they live without crickets? Also what do you think is the best feeder for them? Thanks!!
To my knowledge, gargoyle care is identical to crested gecko care - I think the primary diet should be a mixture like Pangea crested gecko diet.
THANK YOU!!!!
I thought you had 220k subs and I just realised it's not and I'm genuinely shook. You deserve 220k 😂😂
Really enjoy your vids keep it up 👍
They are awesome, I really want one
They're so tiny and cute!
what kind of gecko is the one you first grabbed and the small black one as well ?
All the ones in this video are the same species - gold dust day geckos. They may look different colors because their skin can lighten/darken depending on their mood and environmental conditions
Do Gold dust day geckos like to be handled or are they jumpy? Will they chill with you?
Day geckos tend to be bad for handling - some people have success with holding giant day geckos, but most species are incredibly flighty, and their skin can slough off if they're grabbed
you're a cool dude
they are beautiful baby's
I might be interested in one, how much are you thinking of selling them for?
Oh, and I almost forgot to ask if you were going to repticon Houston on the 25th/26th.
I really like your videos and I really like the intro
@afroherdkeeper you should make a top five begging reptiles
How much are you going to sell them for I would be interested in one (:
They'll most likely be $40-60, but I'll be waiting until they're established to consider selling
Can you hold one for me I will buy one for sure, could I get your email or cell number so we could communicate about this? Also your videos are always very informative and I enjoy watching them.
They're so cute!!!
Great video as always! That one-handed filming while working is awkward - ever consider getting a tripod?
I have two, just wanted to try something new. Filmed this on a phone and don't have a phone stand for the tripod, so I'll probably look into one of those
What's your website
I love them
wow Nice Awesome Reptiles
Nice video I hope you get some more interesting stuff in the future
