The education of an architect is actually a real fit education for a whole range of things. It has nothing to do with buildings, it's about the design of the society.

As a former student of Prof Lesley Lokko, she absolutely deserves to be recognized and more. This is one hard working woman who is constantly pushing boundaries at multitudes of levels, in architectural education and practice. Especially helping African architecture students recognize value in their own contexts and responding through architectural design.

this award used to be given to outstanding architects at world level atop bodies of work stretching back decades, real architecture and construction with all its manifold complications and difficulties. This award looks like it was based on her race and the race of the President of the RIBA.
IMO we should keep facile 'identity politics' and virtue signalling out of architecture. What do you think Natache?

@@MrVorpalsword spot on. Identity politics and all of its associated bankrupt ideologies are infecting architectural practice/discipline. Such awards based on optics and DEI are signs of decay.

Can we see the buildings she designed?

She has never designed a building that has been built. The award has become meaningless. Strange and bizarre.

9:16 She means that the physical slave black body, was a unit of "energy". Energy because slaves worked hard , expended energy for Europe....
She seems to forget that slavery was practiced by Africans, Arabs, middle Eastern for many centuries by and against people of all skin colours.

@@freddyray6805 but that's rubbish too real rubbish ... I don't mean your explanation, its all about how far back you go, did cavemen have slaves? who the heck knows, beasts of burden, the Sun - just hundreds of other sources of energy knocking about. What colour were the cavemen - no idea.
