"A Look At: Dutch / Afrikaans" -- Dutch and its daughter language of Afrikaans are actually pretty close to English, but with some interesting vowels thrown in. And then there's the word "hoor"...
Back up with a new video: Dutch! (and Afrikaans). Also, a second orange-colored thumbnail in a row -- had to go there, since "ole Oranje" etc. Hope you enjoy!
This is not really correct. The "IJ" is not part of the alphabet. It is just a I and a J . We have X, Y, Z. But we do often say IJ to Y ( or we say I grec, griekse ij or Ypsilon :)
Thanks for watching TheBigItch! Tbh, I've seen it both ways, and sometimes with IJ before the Y, as in this children's poster: www.istockphoto.com/nz/vector/colorful-dutch-alphabet-with-pictures-and-titles-for-children-education-gm1028229650-275637081 But I'll look into it more before I pull down this video -- thanks for pointing it out
Originally it was not I and J, but a separate letter. Just look at old Dutch type writers. When computers were developed it was easier to change it to I+J..

Also, in Afrikaans, the IJ became Y: Vrijstaat > Vrystaat; rijbewijs > rybewys, etc. :)

@@WorldisOurThing don't put it down because of me though! I would feel bad. But i think that poster is outdated.

Ek is baie dankbaar teenoor die Here vir my volk se geskiedenis.
To me, the Dutch sch is the sound a dog makes just before vomiting!
